I bought this back in September and since then I have played it several times... The cut scenes are great and the hack and slash gameplay never gets old. I would not compare this game to God Of War because it has a totally different storyline and characteristics of the characters. The graphics are very well done, except the frame rate gets a little low at the end in the big battle where there are about 1,000 guys on the level. The bosses were fun and the last one was epic with Bohan on Hell Mode was something to remember. I didn't buy this from amazon, because I found a better deal. With this and other game that came out this fall, the ps3 is a great console and its future will only get better. 2008 is sony's year. Very fun, you won't regret buying. There is plenty of replayability and lots of combo moves and kills. Buy this and a ps3 now.
Beautiful game, Great story but repetitive gameplay and very short.

The title says it all. It's a great game that puts the PS3 capabilities to the test. i was impressed at how you see battlefields with THOUSANDS of people all running in their own different ways, but the fighting can become repetitive unless you use a variety of combos and it's a short game (You can finish it over a weekend).
Not a God of War Clone.

This game has been highly underrated. Anytime a game of this style that comes out, it's written off as a "another hack n' slash" or "a God of War clone". That's total injustice to the artistry of this game.
With the aid of WETA (did graphics for Lord of the Rings and King Kong), and actor Andy Serkis (Gollum: Lord of the Rings, King Kong), the voice overs, animation, facial expressions and graphics in general are superb. The gameplay changes things up enough to stay fresh and fun as it changes by objective throughout the game. For example, there's stealth, sword fighting, shooting with bow and arrows, and firing cannons. The unique thing is that anytime you shoot or throw anything as a projectile, you use the motion sensor on the controller to physically direct the object to it's target. This is a fun and immersive way that draws you into the game. It's easy to get used to the control and feel of it as it takes no time at all. This is a great feature that separates this game from anything from it's competitor XBOX 360. Which is exactly what the PS3 needs, games that can't be replicated on the 360.
The story is pretty staright forward. It kinda harkens back to older 80's movies like Beastmaster and Conan the Barbarian. The games heroine Nariko has taken the Heavenly Sword, a magical sword with tremendous power but a curse that eventually claims the life of whoever wields it. She sets out to avenge her fathers death and tribe at the hands of King Bohan (played by Andy Serkis), who covets the Heavenly Sword for himself and complete rule over the land.
The voice acting is tremendous and very professionally done. Nariko is believable in her conflicts and emotions. She's to be taken seriously and always conveys herself with realism in her voice and facial expressions. Her sidekick Kai is quirky and childlike. She's vulnerable and dependent on Nariko. Andy Serkis brings to life the evil King Bohan in what is the most entertaining and fun villain seen in a game yet. He's hilariously insane and fun to watch everytime he's on screen. His evil minions are also acted wonderfully, expressing their own unique personalities.
Nariko is fun to use and varied styles of fighting keep the gameplay fresh and non-repetitive. Again though, the animation is magnificent. When watching Nariko in action, it's like a virtual ballet of violence as she moves with grace and fluidity while spinning and jumping with her swords. Her fighting style allows her to be a woman but strong and dangerous as well.
In conclusion, this game is fun, unique, and original in it's own right. Yeah, it's violent enough to not be appropriate for children, but I didn't hear any bad language and it isn't overly gory. I believe any God of War fan or fan of action games in general will find alot to like about Heavenly Sword. Because I can't find any fault with it, I have to give it 5 stars. Highly recommended.

This is the best game I've ever played! The graphics are absolutely incredible, the best facial expressions, scenery, everything. The best part was being able to guide cannonballs and arrows by using body language, which I do most of the time. It takes some practice but it's loads of fun. Like everyone else says, the game is too short, but gave me a week's worth of solid playing over the holidays.

If I could give it more than four stars I would. It gets four stars for just being an extremely fun game to play. It gets bonus points for how absolutely beautiful game it is. The artists and actors really did a great job on this game. And yes I said actors, you can unlock special feature vidoes and discover that the main villian king Bohan is played by the same guy that did the acting for Golem from Lord of the Rings and Kong from King Kong. The game goes by fairly quick but once you beat it in normal mode you can play it again in hell mode.
Captivating...

This coming from a person that has never played a God of War title...
Heavenly Sword is simply one of the greatest games i've ever played, mainly driven by character design and the story telling.
You fall in love with the Beautiful Nariko in this game, you are attached to the characters... You feel emotion, you see emotion. Never have I had a game do this to me..
People say it is a short game..and thats the only flaw I have with it.
But its not really a flaw, as I've enjoyed this game 5 times now, and will replay it when I get my dualshock 3 controller.
Its quality over quantity...
and you get QUALITY!
BUY THIS GAME!
A Solid Reason To Buy A PS3!!!

This game should win game of the year. Buy this game now!!! Undoubtedly, one the best games I ever played. I recently purchased a PS3 and this game made me so happy that I decided to fork out the money to do so. This game is simply amazing. The graphics are awesome. The acting is great. And even the story is cool. If you own a PS3, you owe it to yourself to purchase this game. If you don't own a PS3, then buy one and make this game your first PS3 game purchase. If Sony really wanted to show off what the PS3 was capable of, it would package this game free with any system purchase. Now, some players have commented that the game is too short. Well... to them I say that nobody has ever complained about a bad game being too short, right? The honest truth is that this game could take a thousand hours to beat and it would still be too short. It is just that good. Besides, I felt the game was of adequate length... except, I never wanted it to end. I'll be the first in line eagerly awaiting the release of Heavenly Sword 2. Please Ninja Theory, make it soon!!! (February 2008)

This game cast out any doubts I may have had about purchasing a ps3 months prior to MGS4. Simply put: I ignored the ps3 entirely until I knew MGS4 would be released shortly after. 4 months is a bit of a stretch, but after picking up Heavenly Sword, I realize there's GREAT titles that I'm missing out on. I'm looking at Uncharted next. Assassin's Creed, too (but for 360...I really want 1080i and the ps3 can't do it with my LCD. I know about the differences between P and I... I just want the resolution.)
This game is great. I have only one complaint and that's the duration of the game. I beat heavenly sword the very afternoon/morning after purchasing it. Although, it's an action game, so it's not much shorter than other notable games in the genre, like Metal Gear Solid.
I just wish they'd make these current gen games longer. They're over before you realize it. I might just be too used to the old school epic JRPGs that were 50-80 hours in gameplay. Who knows.
the most beauty I've seen in a game

This is by far the most visually arousing game ever made for a console. The PS3 is finally showing its true colors and some exclusivity as well. The game plays very well and incorporates the SIXAXIS motion control into the combat damn near flawlessly. The story was very well scripted and the voice acting was awesome (Andy Serkis added a lot of character to this project), it had me hooked the whole time. I think its fair to say that Heavenly Sword deserves the 'Goddess of War' comparison, it really is great. The only one thing that I can complain about was that it lasted all not that long. I'd say about 6-7 hours of gameplay was involved. Although very short, I enjoyed every minute of it. A must buy for any PS3 owner.
