I really enjoyed this game. The story is great and so are the graphics, weapons, and enemies. I had no trouble installing the game. Highly recommended by me.
Quite possibly the best game I've played... with one major flaw.

This game was one of the best games I've ever experienced. The graphics were stunning, but that's only the beginning. It has a well written storyline, which plays itself out until the end. It actually features plot twists, which you won't find in too many first person shooters anymore. There are some moral choices that the user is presented with, but I'm not quite sure how they affect the game since I have only played it through on one path.
This game's genre is hard to classify. I would say FPS/Adventure/Action/Horror. It has a little bit of everything. It is not a pure horror shooter, the creators managed to set it up so that it will not scare your pants off or gross you out (too much), but it does have elements of both.
The music was excellent. There is not much else to say there.
The setting was priceless. An underwater city created by a man with a vision of a perfect life beneath the sea. The deteriorating environment and well thought out levels make this game that much better.
The one flaw that I found is that there is no online multiplayer. Once you're done, you're done. Hopefully we will see some mod support, maybe even multiplayer, because this game is almost too good to finish.
Worth the hype

I originally missed the bus on this game. It was only after the repeated stellar reviews from many credible sources, that I decided to try it. I was sorry I waited so long.
The game is the best I've played in a long time. I thought I'd be turned off by the alternate genetic weapons, but they are well done, easy to use, and thoroughly entertaining. The story is pretty creative and keeps on going. Everytime I thought I near the end, there were many more surprises in store.
People with slower machines will struggle a little. The default settings the game used with my machine were too high for smooth play (it selected about a 4 out of 5 on the quality.) I set everything at about a 2 of 5 and got very smooth play out of my old 6800 card.
The game was so much fun that it prompted me to by an 8800 before I replay it on the hardest settings. All-in-all, count me among the big fans of this game.
beautifully designed and great gameplay

The underwater art deco world that the game takes place in is absolutely gorgeous. I find my self sometimes just standing there and looking at the fishes or dead bodies floating by the glass. The game play is immersive and compelling and there's a short learning curve. I just love the use of the X-box 360 controller in this game as well.

I was not that impressed with Bioshock after playing the demo, but it kinda stuck me with me afterward so I downloaded it thru Steam.
OK, this is a great game. Definitely a more thoughtful FPS. This is NOT a game where you charge ahead to find the level exit, unless you want a swarm of enemies on you. Each encounter has alot of opportunities to try different strategies as you can mix and match weapon effects w/psychic abilities.
The level design and architecture are outstanding, Rapture is a living breathing (albeit doomed) world, and while the feature of listening to audio logs I find somewhat tiresome (Doom3 wore this concept out), it does give a sense of a utopia gone horribly wrong. Hearing old 50s tunes playing on the PA system is a wonderful touch. Electrocuting a bunch of splicers while hearing 'If I didn't care' by the Inkspots is just ghoulish beauty.
The highlight of this game is figuring out strategies to take out the 'Big Daddies' so that you can rescue or 'harvest' the little sisters to obtain more upgrades to your powers inventory. The Big Daddies are frightening juggernauts, and usually running away will be a major theme here. It adds a good jolt of adrenaline to an already scary game. The AI of the enemies is nicely done, too - in that random, real-world kindof way... at one point after I had sucessfully 'hacked' a safe in a doctor's office, I turned around to find the doctor right behind me, standing quietly. I almost jumped out of my chair. Then he attacked.
Im using a overclocked Nvidia 7600 GT running at 663mhz/1.61ghz with all textures on high and distortion effects turned on, and the game runs very smoothly. I'd love to see it w/direct x10 and the other post-processing effects, but not with this video card!
Overall, fantastic gameplay and graphics. I can't recommend this game for the under 18 crowd. Definitely a mature title, IMO.
Thumbs up.
I had no problem with install now that it autodownloads an update.

Actually I was steering away from Bioshock because of all the press I read about it.
But there is a Friend at work that I ocassionally swap games with and he had Bioshock.
Well it was definitely installed 2 times on 2 different computers with no problem.
And Since I installed it in April 2008 there is an automatic patch that installs with the game, presumably to fix any problems that were there upon release. I had no problems at all and I'm not a a die hard gamer, just a weekend warrior.
Bioshock is the best game I've played since the Half Life series!!
Great atmosphere sights and sounds. Great story, ability to adjust game to several levels of difficulty and help systems. You get a map and arrow to tell you where you're going. You can turn off all the help if you want, but it saves you time if you don't have time to play much.
And I only have an Intel single core 3.4 Ghz CPU and Nvidia 6800, plays fine at 1024x768
Interesting guns and abilities to collect. Unique way to use both.
Get it you won't regret it.
And now that the price is reduced in April 2008, its a deal.
