This isn't the funnest game I've ever played but it is still pretty entertaining.
I can say, they could've done more with the game like more than 2 different endings, make the levels a bit more vertical as you see the surrounding buildings and structures are.
Great Game

This is a great game. An excellent in-game story with plenty of discovery AND action. Difficulty is good and you won't get stuck in one area forever due to the respawn system.
If you have a high-powered computer, it is absolutely beautiful.
Cool but repetitive

Very cool atmosphere, great sounds and graphics. But after and hour or so of play it gets very repetitive, all the same bad guys...story line is only thing that keeps it going and even that is predictable.
BIOSHOCK is Beautiful and the Story is Great!

In my personal opinion this game is beautiful..If you have a powerful gaming system. I think the game is very fun to play. I have been waiting for a very long time to have somebody release a game for the Windows Vista that I thought was fun. But then again with Windows Vista, you really need a powerful system just to run any type of game.
If I were looking for a game that is very fun and yet different, I would shot for BioShock.
Bioshock - Fun, Unique, Interesting

First I want to respond to the paranoia surrounding the game installing a rootkit. It's not true. They create a registry key for copyright protection (which is still annoying) but do nothing besides that. If you don't believe me just check out the Symantec Security (Norton) Weblog, they have a message about this very issue.
That said, the game itself is fun and unique in the sense that you're granted several abilities to use but you could just call it 'magic' and it wouldn't be all that different than other Action Shooters. What really sets this game apart though is the whole feel of the environment. From the very beginning of the story you instantly get the feeling you've been thrown back into the 50s. Every ounce of the environment helps reinforce this as well.
The general story of the game, without spoiling much, is that you've crash landed in the middle of the ocean and found this underwater Atlantis like city created by a rich, anti-government, and very intelligent entrepreneur of the early 1900s. However, obviously based on the nature of the shooter genre, something went terribly wrong.
The minute you arrive your ability to leave is destroyed so you must venture into the city. Throughout this very linear environment you read clues as to what has happened and have to make choices of how you want to behave (which affect the ending sequence but don't do much else in the long term). You also find out about plasmids which are injectable fluids you can use to gain the powers such as freezing things (why a city of people underwater would ever need the ability to freeze things is beyond me but it's nice for killing things).
What's really interesting about the game is how it can be pretty scary at times. I remember one scene, I'm knee deep in water, walking through a shadowing corner, I see a shadow above in the light source of someone, boom! The lights cut and I'm stuck in the dark with something I can't see and I can't move very well. You will also find that you'll run out of ammo very often (which adds to the experience) so that can also lead you to being on the edge of your seat as well.
The game is also visually beautiful assuming it doesn't crash on you like one of the other reviewers had. I'm not sure why that was happening, likely its the games interaction with his video card or the fact he only has 2 GB of RAM and is running Vista (which eats a lot of RAM).
Generally, I'd say it's worth the money to buy and it's pretty fun and fast paced but the general fighting is somewhat repetitive so while it's fun to get new abilities it gets boring at times. If action shooters are your thing though this is a solid game to add to your collection. It's no Half Life but definitely is an experience you'll remember.
Love It !!

This program never ran for me, even though I have the state of the art cpu and video card. The mouse never worked, customer support never got back to me, and a new mouse didn't make a difference. I returned the game to Amazon for a refund.
Definately

I don't usually write these but for this I had to. Absolutely amazing game. I don't usually play FPS, they're really not my cup of tea, but I picked BioShock up on partially a whim and partially from hearing about it from a friend. The graphics are amazing, the Little Sisters are creepy, I love the story (many times that's what truly makes a game), and I adore all the little details they put into everything, from cigarette smoke to the little cracks in granite.
I haven't run into any issues worth mentioning when I play it on my laptop. Sure subtitles lag sometimes but you can still read it and see what was said so you know what's going on even if you miss something that's said. I beat it today actually and plan on playing it again.
I would definately recomend this even if FPS aren't usually your type of game.
Bioshock... Definite 'Game of the Year' contender!

This game is a 1st person shooter with multiple upgrades to weapons, skills and abilities (reminiscent of 'Deus ex' & 'System Shock').
With the right hardware, this is an amazing game; without it, I can imagine the frustration some people are feeling. For me, the game ran without a hitch on 'Vista' with a Dual Core processor, 2 GBs of RAM and a 8800 nVidia video card.
There were many positives about the game (and a couple negatives as well)...for instance
1.)Wonderful graphics, audio and game play; probably the best I've ever seen. The game is able to take advantage of the new Dx10 (as an option) if you have a system that runs 'Vista'.
2.)There is a map; indicating where you are and sometimes showing where your present goal is located.
3.)Three levels of difficulty that are changeable at ANYTIME (very useful if your taking a continual beating); The degrees of difficulty could be described as...easy (very much so), medium (a definite challenge) and hard (brutal) It was difficult to stay alive on 'hard'.
4.)Movement and firing are handled with the mouse, while weapon/ammo changes are done effectively with the keyboard (this is a useful blend of controls when the action gets hectic).
5.)Anytime, anywhere saves and loads with F8 and F9 respectively.
6.)A helpful guidance arrow to help you travel at certain times.(travel can be confusing at times) [see Cons: 3.) below]
7.)An emotional storyline and plot; the little girls will tug at your heartstrings.
8.)Some degree of replayability...you could try a 'different' attitude in your handling of the little girls and also you could focus on different weapons and 'skills'.
9.)Non-linear game play; although you have to complete specific goals on each level, you are able to move about unrestricted and explore anywhere.
The Cons:
1.)The game must be activated via an internet link; I'm not sure if this means you can sell your game or not after your through with it.
2.)Very high end hardware is needed to get this game to run smoothly.
3.)I found the mapping system a little confusing, at times, e.g. when I changed rooms or went up or down stairs. (really a minor complaint, but you'll understand what I mean once you start playing)
Conclusion:
This game will (IMO) be very high in the running for single player 'Game of the Year' honors* as it ushers in a new era of improved standards in the field of computer gaming. You will need a powerful system to appreciate this game (and others soon to come) in the way the developers had intended. Simply a joy to play. 5 Stars.
* other nominees of single player 'Game of the Year' might be 'Call of Duty 4' and Half Life 2 episode 2, with 'Timeshift' and 'STALKER-Chernobyl' close behind. Crysis would be a more distant runner up.
won't run on HP DV9535 and demo will cause Intel(R) Core (TM) 2 Duo machines to crash

The game won't run on HP DV9535 laptops with Intel(R) Core (TM) 2 Duo processors with Nivida graphics cards 8600 GS, 2GB RAM and 1.5 Ghz processor. The DEMO version installs a driver AMDLLD.sys. As soon as you reboot, the system crashes with a blue screen. Which is no supprise as this is a INTEL machine. You need to delete the file in safe mode before rebooting the system. I wonder how a company can sell such a poorly developed product? I can't even return this lousy product as the "copy right" seal is broken.
