Beautiful-looking and playing - but a bit shallow

In terms of a pure gameplay experience, this is among the best of the next-generation games.

The first thing you will notice are the stunning graphics. The textures are clean, the faces and character models are crisp, and the animation is breathtaking. The second thing you will notice is the control - every single action (and there are quite a few of them) is incredibly easy to pull off. The forgiving and intuitive control is almost always favourable - the only issue I had with the control is that during the fight scenes, occasionally I wanted to do a lateral roll and ended up vaulting over the enemy's head, only to be chopped down and losing a bit of energy. Otherwise, the awesome control enables you to attack seemingly daunting feats with incredible ease. There are three types of gameplay associated here: action-oriented fight scenes, which are fun but decidedly the weakest component of the game; puzzle-oriented scenes, including several involving adjusting mirrors in order to fix a light beam on a particular spot; and lastly, 'acrobatic' scenes involving getting the Prince from point A to point B. On the surface, these look to be the most difficult. If given Tomb Raider's game engine and its comparatively stiff control, these puzzles would be completely impossible. But PoP's game engine is so smooth and so accomodating that these intimidating tasks are really quite simple. These scenes are also forgiving in the sense that if you do happen to make a mistake, the dagger is capable of rewinding time up to 10 seconds, enabling you to redo those sections requiring crisp timing. However, even with such enchanting gameplay and presentation, there are a couple of quibbles: for starters, the game does feel a little bit short. My first time through was clocked at about 9 hours. My major issue, though, is the linearity of the game. With such freedom of movement, I was sorely disappointed to see that there were so few deviations from the pathway the storyline had intended. The only secrets to be found are the magic fountains which increase the Prince's maximum energy. Most of these are fairly easy to find, and rarely off the Prince's route. There really isn't much depth to the game outside of the 'beaten path'. This is a shame, because the control and the game design lends itself so well to an open environment. Combine that with the adequate but hardly epic game length, and its replayability suffers. And if you really want to get picky, you can even say that the control is SO forgiving and the game engine SO smooth that even the most insane-looking tasks lack difficulty. But as a pure pick-up-and-play experience, it is a dangerously good time and comes highly recommended.

This game is destined to be a classic

Not since the debut of the legendary Tomb Raider on PS1 has a game captured so much of my time and attention as UBI Soft's Prince of Persia has.
The Graphics are gorgeous and the control is dead on tight.
This game has it all; Fighting, action, adventure.
The first time you power up the game and start running along the walls and doing gymnastics and swinging from poles, doing impossible jumps.
I just cant say enough about this title.
I highly reccommend this game to anyone who liked Tomb Raider.
Actually this is the game that Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness should have been.
Get it...you wont be dissappointed.

Pros:
- graphics: players feel as if they are indeed hundreds if not thousands of feet above the ground. Very well animated characters and cut scenes.
- story: well written story keeps player interested in game outcome.
- controls: player can perform stupendous combat moves and stunts to defeat enemies and solve puzzles, all with minimal button presses.
- seamless tutorial system: the included tutorials integrate well into the overall gameplay.
- challenge: for once a game is designed where the player can clearly attribute mistakes to actions taken rather than gameplay, game design, or AI decisions.

Cons:
- camera angles at times get in the way. While overall better than most games, they still could use some work. Some points players must travel to are hidden out of view at times. Limited
camera controls don't help this either.
- very difficult: novice gamers may get discouraged by the challenge.
- easter egg bug: I couldn't get the secret game unlocked in the version purchased new off the shelf.

Beautiful, and great to play.

I just ordered this game, played it all weekend and have to say, wow! The art that has been brought to bear in this title is amazing. Flowing water, bending trees, lighting, it's all there. Not only have the developers created a gorgeous world for you to play in, they give you amazing effects, and fantastic controls. The combat system that many have complained about is easy to use, and a blast to see. Slash one bad guy leap over his back and collect his "sand", then richochet off the wall to slash another followed by a block and a retatlitory strike on another attacker, awesome!! If you do not own this game you need to stop reading right now and get it. As a 32 year old long term gamer ( I conquered most Atari, Colecovision, and Activision games back in the day ) who has seen the long road of game development through some bleak times, I can assure you this game is worth your time. GET IT!

This game is over all pretty good, although the sound is a little lacking, the animation is amazing, and the combat is pretty cool. The puzzles take awhile to solve been when you solve them you have a great feeling of accomplishment. The coolest part about this game is that you can rewind time. It comes in handy especially when you die because you can rewind back to when you were living.

Ubi-softs best game since 'Splinter Cell'

Ubi-soft's game, The Prince of Persia: The sands of time is an outragously awsome game! That said, I would like to present to you my review. At first I figued Prince of Persia was some generic Platformer with a Persian and Indian featured in the game, I was unaware it was an old franchise (My sister's constant raving about it didn't help my skeptism either). So after my younger sister and brother had played it I decided to give it a try. And to my pleasant surprise, the game was not bad at all. In the beginning you play the prince (whose name is never mentioned) who seeks honnor and glory for himself and his father, but to do this he has to be the first to get to the tresure vault that resides inside Indain castle that his father is attacking. When he does he comes across a supernatural weapon titled the 'Dagger of time', which can revive you if you die, and stop, slow, or speed up time with a press of a button. But when the prince is tricked by his father's informant to place the dagger into a hourglass that holds the snads of time, he unleashes a deadly force upon the Persian kingom.

So in an attempt to redeem himself, The "prince" embarks on a quest to retrive the sands of time and stop his father's tercherous imformant. He is ironically acccompanied by a woman named Farah (a princess of the conqured Indian kingdom) whom helps with solve a castle full of puzzles, but does nothing to help in battles. Her motives for following him are clear but she keeps her intier motives hidden from the oblvious prince. That said, the game play is not bad at all.

The fighting mechianics are well done; the prince moves fludily during comat, although he tends to pause sometimes which is not a good thing. The platforming doesn't feel stiff nor does it feel as though its working against you. And as you go through the game you are faced with enemies called "Sand creatures" who kill everything that breathes air.

The prince can stirke them down but they will get right back up, and to prevent this you use the dagger; once they've fallen the prince can retrive them by stabbing the creatures with the Dagger of time. There are no diffculty levels, the game is tough and leave your fingers aching for days. The puzzles are not simple, they will have you using your brain to figure them out. Sometimes it takes more than an hour to figure one puzzle out later on in the game. There are, however, 'Sand vision' clouds that appear once you've killed ever sand creature within every area you enter, that give you helpful hints in the form of rapidly moving visions.

The animations for the characters are okay, The prince and Farah don't walk like normal people, they run strangely as well. The voice acting (french, Spanish and Enlgish alilke) is pretty good; it sounds almost normal, Although the prince tends to talk/think to himself alot when he's alone. The CGI and 3D animated Movie scenes move the plot along nicely, giving you that ceniamatic feel. All in all the Sands of time is a really cool game worthy of any PSII owner's collection. The solid gameplay is bound to have you replaying it over and over. --- [A 5 out of 5]

Personally I think that this game is better than halo. The graphics were good and it did not take to long to complete. While playing this game their are a lot of puzzles, two in particular are kind of hard. I would say that this game was medium difficulty. Do not skip this game to get to the sequel this game is worth every penny. Also as the sequel drop's in price you can buy it cheep, and have both the games.

I love this game, along with the others in the series. I like that you have to solve puzzles and have to actually think of what to do. I like games like that. And the graphics are amazing. It gives off that soft dream like glow and makes you feel as if you are really in an ancient land of Persia. Following the Prince as he journeys through the Palace is fun, as the Palace is huge and you never visit another place twice. There's always something new around every corner. And, you don't travel alone. I like that the Prince teams up with Farah and they work together as a team. The ending is awesome and I love the storyline, which only goes deeper in the next game. The music is wonderful and I love hearing it while playing, especially the fight scenes. I recommend this game to fantasy lovers who enjoy a good, fun game.

how can people b so ignorant and say this game is "repetitive". If anything, it try's NOT to b repetitive. Everything is evenly leveled out to create a near perfect game with a perfect concept. from the satisfying battles sequences, sensible puzzles, high flying pole swingings, rope swinging, balancing and more pole swingings r all perfectly arranged and performed by the prince almost like a ballet. Trust me on this...this game is great!

Crazy pretty cool
