Not sure why this game is getting such rave reviews.
Ok, yes, the graphics are awesome, but...
Very linear game play. Solve simple puzzle, kill things,
solve simple puzzle, kill more things, repeat, repeat, repeat...
Not a bad game, but not great either. Good rental, I think.

I actually bought this game when reading a review of it. Ubisoft is pumping out some very good games this year but i DON'T recommend buying this one. There is no problem with the graphics. They are awesome every thing is fluid, from running on the walls to gymnastic flipping on the horizontal poles. The charecter physics are great. The camera is tricky sometimes but once you get the basics of what is physically possible on the game you work past the flaky camera. The combat system is suprisingly involved and fun, especially when you can turn your opponents into sand. The idea for the game along with the story is original (ie. speeding up time and rewinding it). long story short the game IS fun.

I beat it in a weekend though with a total of 7 hours of game play. DON'T BUY IT, RENT IT!!

Awesomely Made!

This game is really fun!!! You get to fight with swords against enemies! The first time I played, I felt it hard to get out of the first area in the game. But then it gets easier every time. The hard part now is to get the Dagger of Time.

Amazing game

Prince of Persia tells the story of a Persian prince who accidentally unleashes the sands of time that causes anyone who touches it to become horrible sand creatures. I don't want to spoil much of the plot but the ending is one of the best and most original I've seen in a while. One of the best parts of the story is in the way it's told, you'll watch the story unfold as he tells it to you. The puzzles are brilliant if not a tad easy and the combat while not the best is defiantly fun for the most part although sometimes you'll wonder if they ever stop coming. Though POP (Prince of Persia) is somewhat a easy game it's defiantly no cakewalk either, it's somewhere down the line. However be forewarned the graphics themselves are great but there is two minor problems in the form of slowdown and on the PS2 and GCN versions fingers that are stuck together, much like GTA 3 and vice city, (though it should be noted that the GCN version has some great textures, possibly better than the xbox, and less slowdown then the PS2 version), and with better textures, less slowdown and individual fingers (sorry but I'm not a fan of stuck together fingers) not to mention more extras, the XBOX version is the one to get if you have the choice, but that's not to say the others are bad as the ps2 version is just as great as the GCN and XBOX versions just not as pretty, I hooked up my sound through my TV at first and was shocked at how low the voices are during cut scenes and plugging it into my receiver (DPLII game only) the voices were still a bit of a problem so I figured I should mention that you'll need to turn up the volume during cut scenes. But overall whichever system you get it on just prepare to be amazed by one great game. (By the way I have only the ps2 version as it was a gift and I love it but I just felt I should let people know about the other options)

Awesome graphics - gameplay frustrating...

The graphics was one of the main reasons for getting this game. The acrobatics are awesome as well and so make the game more fun... until you start reaching levels where you can't beat anyone - you can't save the game - and when you get sick of trying to beat them and turn off the system, you've got to start the level all over again. Two buttons for fighting sequences just doesn't seem to be enough.

I'm not a huge gaming freak but I enjoy my occasional gameplay, so it takes me more than 7 hours to beat a game... but when it gets frustrating, it gets exchanged for another game.

I recommend that you rent - not purchase this game.

A great yet underrated game.

This game got the gold award from EGM and high ratings from every game magazine out there. It even recieve Game of the Year honors from EGM over KOTOR and Mario Kart: Double Dash!! So why is it sitting on the shelves of game stores, collecting dust? The game's only drawbacks are a lousy save system, and sometimes(not always) cheesy sound effects. In the game, you unlock the sands of time, and steal the dagger of time. This ends up sending you on a quest to undo the mistake you have made and you encounter many foes along the way. The graphics are flawless, even on a PS2, the fighting system is great, the controls are almost an afterthought, you dont even have to think about which button you need to press, and the puzzles are enthralling. Do not let the low sales fool you, this is a great game on the verge of being deemed a "failure" in a business world that relies on sales. Do not let such a greatgreat game go the way of many other underrated games such as Ico, Kya: Dark Lineage, and Beyond Good and Evil. Buy it and you will not regret it.

Best game of 2003!

I'm not a genius when it comes to action/adventure games. I really stink at them.
But this game caught my attention with it's cool like hero, beautiful animations and awesome battle set-up.
After I bought it, I wasn't disappointed.
The battle controls, while hard to master, once learned, they make perfect sense, and there is no way you can't get that feeling of accomplishment when the Prince backflips, kicks, stabs, twirls, and (my favorite),rebounds off walls to totally obliterate his oncoming attacker with a good stick of his sword.
And oh yes, the Prince *can* guard against attacks too, and he has a ...whooping parry move.
Of course, everything the Prince does is ...whooping. In fact, he's the biggest kicker of sorry behinds I've seen in awhile, sure to have his name up there in legendary status with Dante Sparda...someday. When people start buying this game...
Voice acting in this game is fantastic, really some of the best of I've heard.
And the Prince has such personality! From the beginning as a snobby, arrogant kid who doesn't really care about fighting, just the rewards, 'til the end, where he's just an arrogant, angry guy who accepts fighting ghastly zombies while covered in dirt and blood, also being shirtless, with a set jaw and a penchant for pain. Mwa ha ha. And did I mention his swords?
And the Dagger of Time? A really neat invention that lets the Prince reverse MY stupid mistakes, so that his cool, handsome self can get back to doing what he does best: Defying gravity and kicking butts, of course.
The Dagger also allows him the liberty of freezing time, moving in slow motion, accelerating time (neat!), and of course, reversing time.
Really neat stuff, makes for great battles between tough, at times, too smart zombies.
Puzzles are in this game, but not at large quantities, which is good for me.
I love the relationship between Farah and the Prince, very real. Music= A+!! Asian stuff with electric guitar and drums thrown in, how can it be bad?
My only and biggest problem with this entire game has nothing to do with gameplay or anything like that.
... Other than that, this game is excellent!

Unleash the Sands of Time....

I never played the original Prince of Persia. I didn't have a computer back then. But even having not played the original that shouldn't deter anyone who might be considering purchasing this game. Unfortunatley in late 2003, though released to critical acclaim, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time became a "sleeper" hit being outsold by other higher profile games released around the same time. Which is a shame because this is a game that stands on it's own two feet.

First thing that stands out is that the Prince in the game is recounting the tale from his perspective. Almost as if he's sitting down with you telling you the story in great detail. This is pretty unusual and at the same time makes the game more engrossing. In the game, the Prince has unleashed the Sands of Time after siezing the Dagger of Time when his father's army invades India. Now he has mistakenly unlocked a cataclysmic power that will destroy him if he can not stop it.

The game's stand out feature, aside from it's gameplay, is it's graphics. This is a very nice looking game. The environments are extremely detailed and alot of attention has been paid to the very fine details. The palace is at times huge. With rooms that big sometimes it's a bit difficult to determine which way to go or how to properly reach your goal. But if you step back and think for a moment the solution will become clear. Throughout the palace you'll notice alot of banners that flow when touched. An effect borrowed from another Ubi Soft title, Splinter Cell. You can tell from the outset that this game was very thoughtfully laid out and it definitley shows. The game's camera is at times problematic. It won't stay centered on the Prince at times making fighting more difficult. It can be recentered by pressing R3. There is the occasional slowdown and sometimes the camera will jerk into position.

The gameplay is absolutley superb. The Prince is extremely athletic and has a number of stylish and agile moves he can accomplish when taking on enemys. Sometimes it's trickey remember exactly how to make the Price do something in particular but on onscreen tutorial will remind you every so often. The Prince's main weapon is the sword but the most interesting feature in the game is the Dagger of Time. The Dagger will allow you to slow down time, rewind, fast forward and freeze enemies. The XBox game "Blinx: The Time Sweeper" tried to accomplish this feat with limited success. But here it's been refined.

The main criticism of this game, other than the camera, is that it's relativley short in length and there's little replay value. Once the story is finished that's about it. You can however play the original Prince of Persia once the game is completed which should be a treat for fans of the original series.

If you're looking for something different in the action/adventure genre than this is a game that's well worth your time and money. A sequel is in the works, but till then sit back and let the Prince recount his tale for you. It's a story that's well worth it.

Fabulous Game

Amazing Game! The graphics are superb. Controlling the prince is very easy and precise. Some of his movements are very original like running along a wall, jumping over enemies and the best, turning back the time. This way you don't die every time you fall. Some of the battles are tough but like I said the prince has got some cool moves. The story is very well put together and the voice acting is very good. Somebody here said that the camera angles are bad. Yes in a few spots but you can zoom in and change the view to make it easier to see what you're doing. This game is great and has great replay value.
