Need For Speed is one of the best known names in video games, and is one of the premier titles on the critics list too. This games is a ton of fun, with long tracks, amazing cars, realistic physics, and challenging cops.
Pros:
- Great controls
- Beautiful cars
- Challenging
- A "You're the Cop" mode
- Realistic Handling
- Amazing Graphics
Cons:
- The handling might be realistic, but that makes it much harder
- The game picks your car FOR YOU in race modes
Other than those two flaws, this game is a real thrill ride, and lovers of potent exotic cars will love it, as will racing fans. Hot Pursuit is a lot of fun in both modes, and this game really doesn't get boring fast, so just get it. I'm sure you won't regret it.

You know, I've never been much of a racing fan in all my years(except for Gran Turismo) and, to be honest, a Need for Speed fan. But, after playing this game, I am now.Never have I ever played a game with this much sense of speed. The closest I've ever come to it is the Extreme-G series. The lush visuals and perfect car control made this a game every racing fan or PS2 owner should own.
The only gripe I have with the game really isn't a gripe at all because I could switch it off. The cam shots to where you could see a half-mile up the road and around your car. They were cool at first but, after the coolness wore off, it became a bother to me. Thank God, there was an option to switch it off.
Other than that, Hot Pursuit 2 is awesome. Maybe even the best racing game ever made, next to the Gran Turismo series. You definitely ought to put your money down on this one. You'll be glad you did.

After reading multiple reviews from multiple sources [raving] over this game, I decided to purchase it.
I could have saved my money if anyone would have just bothered to mention that it plays EXACTLY the same as the mediocre game that came out 10 years ago on the 3DO.
Cops are a nice twist, but get boring and annoying rather quickly, and are not enough to pull this game from its position firmly in the middle of the road.
Great Game, but too much like rumble racing...

First of all let me say that this was a very fun game and I thought the graphics and game play were fantastic. There are a *huge* number of cars you could aquire (49) and the choices were not disappointing. They ranged from the odd looking 'concept' cars from Opel and Vauxhall (sp?) to the full blown speed demons of the McLaren F1 and Mercedes CLK masterpieces. With that being said I have a couple of minor complaints and one major disappointment I had with this game. First, there is no add/upgrade features that you can modify your cars with. Instead you are awarded cars based on the number of NFS 'points' you win. While the cars you are awarded are great, what you see is what you get. I really liked the add/upgrade option in the PS1 version of the game and was disappointed with the lack of this feature in the PS2 version. Secondly I really felt that this game is geared for the more down-and-dirty win-at-all-costs experience rather than the flat out racing feel of the PS1 version. Each of the respective courses had any number of shortcuts that you really needed to master in order to win races. Also you really need to be aggresive and scrape some paint if you want to win -- especially in the "Hot Pursuit" challanges. While this was a lot of fun it reminded me too much of "Rumble Racing." Lastly they didn't include any of the awsome pure race tracks that they had in the PS1 version. In the PS1 version you raced the McLaren and CLK on high speed raceways with banked curves and red/white painted curbs. This really gave it a LeMans and F1 feel to the game which I really enjoyed. I was sadly disappointed they left those tracks out. Overall I enjoyed the game quite a bit, but not as much as I would have hoped to.
Not the best but still my favorite!

Gran Turismo is the best in terms of realism and racing simulation but for high adreneline, Need for Speed is tops! I like NFS better because the controls are a bit easier and control of the car is much more managable. In other words, where it takes lots of practice to get decent in Gran Turismo, you're up and cranking on NFS in no time!
Need for Speed is so totally addictive it's unbelievable. I can literally play it for hours and have. The cars go wicked fast and it's fun to outrun cops, dodge barracades, do jumps while driving at high speeds. I haven't tried Underground yet but if it really is better like everyone says, I'll be looking forward to it coming down to the Greatest Hits collection (I NEVER buy games over $20)!
best racimg game ever

The game is a very solid driver. I was floored by the graphics, sounds, and style of play. The only problem I had is it seems that the cops prefer to forget about all the other speeders and live to chase, box-in, block, and bomb you. On the off chance they do chase another driver, that's all they do. They chase them, but don't try to knock them off the road. Aside from that, it's awesome.
Im in Hot pursuit of this game whoooooooo!

THIS IS THE BEST PS2 RACING GAME THAT I HAVE EVER HAD THE PLEASURE OF PLAYING! The cars in the game are so graphically detailed and realistic! There are the coolest cars on the planet on this game. Porsche, Lamborgini, Ferrari, and Lotus to name a few. I thought the Carrer mode was very fun. It isn't too hard nor too easy, although not original, it still is very addictive. You just win progressively harder races and challenges to unlock all the cars. The hot pursuit mode is very fun ecpecially for 2 players. The only flaw of playing this game that i found was the realism of the damage. You can hit cars head-on at speeds in excess of 100mph and get a headlight put out and a couple of scratches and dents at the most. It doesn't take off of the fun level of this game. Five out of five
one good game
