Awesome game! Why did critics hate on it?

Critics didn't like this game. Why? I have NO idea. It's a great game. Awesome storyline, amazing music and suck-you-in gameplay. I rented it first because it got such low reviews but after a few hours of playing it I went online and bought it. I honestly think you should too. Not only is it a great game but games like this (flying a dragonback) deserve to be made and by buying this game you can encourage that as well

Have FUN!

My 7 year old loves it

I thought this would be too difficult for my 7 year old son but he is good with video games, and with a little practice he got the hang of it and LOVES the game. Excellent graphics, he likes moving the controller to make the dragon's do what he likes. It is like having a little bit of the Wii capability but with the PS3.

Awsome Game

Although I do agree with the reviewers who said that the controls are hard, I do not agree that it makes this a horrible game. I love dragons, and video games as well. So I really love this game.

Yes, the controls are difficult, but you can learn them. As I write this review my girlfriend whos videogame experience can be summed up as playing Mario Cart 64, is not having all that much trouble with the game controls. Her problems are more with where the buttons are on the controller than actually controling the dragon. And to those who think it should be easy to control...IT'S A DRAGON!!!! Not a motorcyle. It is not going to turn on a dime.

Anyways, the plot is interresting, the music is awsome, and the graphics are amazing. This is not a game for people who are impatient or immature. The controls are simple as long as you are willing to learn and practice.

A dragon shouldn't turn like a combat jet

First off rent or buy this for its many merits and your feelings towards a third person dragon flight sim personally. The hype machine took its toll on this title but I think it will stand on its own over time considering that LAIR delivers on many levels the production values as is standard on PS3 from my experience are top notch. Voice acting, cinematics, storyline, ambiance all rate above average.
There is a nice set of 12 tutorials that allows everyone to get a feel for the mildly complex controls. The game is set up like and plays somewhat like ROGUE SQUADRON different level medals for each mission etc, unlockable dragons etc. With God of War style button matching combat and other varied moves such as TAKEDOWN, The controls are smooth and responsive, firmware 1.93 is recommended for best results.(THIS IS POSSIBLY WHY SO MANY NEGATIVE REVIEWS) however in the heat of action the 180 degree turn just doesn't want to work for me and usually sends me dashing instead arrggh! If you can embrace the somewhat shallow arcade like feel of the game overall and not long for the RPG like qualites of say a DRAGONRIDERS OF PERN then you will find a satisfying meal of mead and meat at this gaming table. My biggest compaint is that rider and dragon appear small and I wanted more of feeling of being on the dragon.Other than that though a great fantasy setting and flight controls with a nice variety of missions will hold your attention rapt. The single person campaign could have been longer as the game seems to end just as it is getting good, however the motion control and fireball blasting make this a great ride while it lasts. Recommended

Dragon Riding as I thought it would be

If you are reading this, you are probably wondering why so many users say this game is good while reviewers say it's bad.

Simple, it's a creative game made for users, not for reviewers!

Now, the game is a bit harsh when it comes to the learning curve, you do need to master the controls to be able to finish it, and yes, the dang back flip is a pain to accomplish, but other than that the game is VERY good, it has stunning graphics, which show off what the PS3 can do, and the controls are very precise when it comes to turning, diving or rising, you intuitively know how much to tilt the controller to go where you want to go. Now I've seen other reviewers say, controls are not responsive because the dragon takes a bit to turn, well, I have to differ, if you look closely, the dragon's head faces where he is going to turn, before actually turning, and that is immediate, so there is no real unresponsiveness, just think of turning a tank, you know where you want to turn it to, it just takes a while because it's HEAVY.

All in all, I was not disapointed with the game, actually I was surprised how good it was after such harsh reviews. If you like dragons and want to ride one, and don't mind moving your arms in doing so, then go for it!

Fantastic Ride

This game is stunning. Awesome visuals, incredible story, and impressive integration of the Sixaxis system which in my opinion has up until Lair been underwhelming. Very well done.

This is not a jet-flight-sim

To those who were expecting a jet flight sim, expect dissapointment. The controls, once you spend more than 15 minutes learning them, behave as one would expect of a dragon rider riding a big creature, and are quite intuitive.

Just remember, you are riding a dragon, you are not the dragon. The "laggy controls", as some people have said, are expected.. If you don't think so, go ride a horse, see how well he responds..

Given ample time to learn the controls, this game is a blast.. If you don't own it, don't plan to own it, owned it for 15 minutes and returned it, too bad for you. A lot of us are enjoying this game quite a bit. The only reason I didn't give it 5-stars is because it suffers the same as a lot of games now days -- too short..

Very Good Game!

Simply put, see what the people have to say that have played and beaten this game, not the reviewers. The controls are very intuitive and pretty easy to learn, and once you do, this game is just plain fun.

Failed to deliver

A disappointment following such great hype from Sony. The SIXAXIS controller required to maneuver the dragon was difficult and not very responsive. Ground control was counter-intuitive too.

The graphics at first glance looked impressive, especially on the intros. But a closer look showed a lot of repetitive rendering--something one wouldn't expect to see game designed exclusively for a top-of-the-line console like the PS3.

Gameplay was linear with long intros you are forced to sit through each time you wanted to start a level/chapter with no way to skip. Story line was unoriginal and mediocre.

I had great expectations for this game...few were met.

good game. the graphics are phenominal, but the game play is a bit challenging. game story is very deep and worth some of the frustration reaching each. lock on system and the goals of each level can be a bit confusing, but overall still a solid game. i did enjoy heavenly sword much more.
