Where it has guns with Snake
Pros:
Excellent visuals
Well done voice acting(Tho some of it is clieche'd/cheesey)
Great backround music
Excellent osund effects
A very destructive aresonal(And the first time it has the M23 shotgun, I call it "THE BABY!)
One of the, if not the best plot in videogames(Plot twists hit you up, down, left right, sideways, diagnal, reverse, aw u get it! It's seriously much better than sitting through a class to find out about the cuban missle chrisist)
I never liked hunting for food........till now
Pretty realistic(Keeping a eye on everything: Health, Stamina, poison, cuts, man just a new kind of metal gear)
Man Ocelot is so bad, he makes his crew look like natural born killers(Seriously, when I ofught him, his troops gave me more of a problem than he did)
Awwwww... Eva! When Snake is ever hurt, all he needs is some sexual healing
weird but excellent boss fights(Like the fat chubby-monkey with bees around him
No Radien, despite Snake is sometimes called Jack, which was Radien's name(What's up with that?)
One of the best endings I've ever seen
The greatest prequal ever made, with the plot surpassing it's predissecors
The best Metal Gear Solid experience you can find when it comes to plot, no doubt
Cons:
What is this game famus for? hmmmmmm, oh LONG CUTSEENES AND CALLS
No Radar, which makes it harder to know where the enemies are, and which way they are looking
Even with camo, I get seen as if I were a shadow in broad daylight
Keeping an eye on everything can get repetitive(Like after I healed a gunshot, some butt-monkey shot me with a poison needle)
Traps are usally hard too see(Like getting stuck with arrows, walking into mines, ect.)
How could Snake not like James Bond flicks!?(After I saved it once, he talked crap about Bond, and in the 60s Sean Conery was Bond, the BEST BOND. I'd understand if it was Roger Moore)

Snake is back, and back in a big way. Metal Gear solid upgrades in a huge way, a way that all game serious should upgrade(Not in the exact same way, but should be getting better, and better). And a very satisfying, beat the crap out of your cerebrum ending(If you know what I mean). This game is definitly recomended for those who love the MGS series, and those who love stealth games. If you wanna be in a videogame where survival is not in a horror game, check this out.

PS.Hint... Does the name Saladin ring a bell?

peace

(...)*First of all this game is set in 1960's Cold War
*It takes place roughly 2/3 outdoors in the jungle\caves and other natural habitats
*The other third of it will likely be indoors, in some sort of weapons facility were a Metal Gear is being produced
*This game makes use of a sweet camoflauge scheme where u must change ure camo in order to blend in better with your surrondings or u will surely be spotted
*In this game u must survive in the wilderness, u can set traps and hunt for animals to eat. (...)
*There have been many speculations as to who the character is and every one has there theories but if u would like my opinion on it then read the following:

Many people think that it is Big Boss(Snakes Father) in the game.
It could be him but it could also be Solid Snake because in Metal Gear Solid for the PS1 he was 39(I beleive so i could be wrong though i havnt played the game in a long time) and that was in year 2005. So this means he was cloned from Big Boss in 1966, the game previews always say 1960's say when in 1960, so it could be in fact Solid Snake himself.Another reason people think its Big Boss is because in one of the preveiws for MGS3:SE there is a close-up of Snake\Big Boss and he is missing an eye(Big Boss is missing an eye).I think though that for a while in the game you play as Big Boss and he gets cloned half-way through so you play as Snake for the second half of the game.I really still want to play as Snake so i hope there is some odd plot twist like what i just said. Well I hope this helped u out in some way.

**Ps if any of my facts are wrong please notify me**

this game is totally bad*** first off you get to play as big boss! second u get to kill and eat animals, a lot cooler than rations! you get a ton of weapons, and unlike games like splinter cell you can actually use them! sure to have a great storyline with lots of plot twists. and there is now a use of camo and facepaint and a meter that shows how well you are hidden. this is gonna be one kick @$$ game trust me i've played the demo on the playstation jam pack cd! and it really doesn't suffer from long load times. on nov. 17 naked snake (big boss' new codename) will be released lol that sounded bad didn't it?!

Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater is simply AMAZING! after playing it for awhile I noticed all the detail in the graphics and the overall playability, there are many ways to execute what you want to do. You can snipe, sneak by or move in with knife in hand and gut the soldiers like fish. Its not typical Metal Gear Solid with the same type of graphics etc as they are upgraded from MGS2 and improved. The story is great and the game takes a step up allowing the player almost unlimited possiblities of handling the different situations! You can spend as much time as needed in the jungles also getting food etc. One thing bothered me at first......NO RADAR! Yep, the creators stated that this takes place in 1964 and that radar wasnt around like in MGS and MGS2 however its simply just a crutch, once you get used to the change you'll notice that the game takes on its own personality and is more challenging. But by watching which way the grass moves or seeing where the bullets are coming from you can get a beat as to where the fire is coming from. You have to use your senses this time around and not the radar as a crutch. Now the gameplay is upgraded with personal hand to hand combat where you can now use soldiers as human shields and fire your weapon at them and you have the option to use a knife on them also performing quick and silent deaths by slitting their throats with your knife. The camo experience can be daunting at first but VERY cool when you learn how to use it properly. You can lie in wait as a soldier comes up by you then you pop up and slit his throat or knock him out etc The characters are well done and the story is Awesome. I think the MGS purists will eat this game up with sweet relish however the newbies and casual fans might lose a little interest and stick with the new games like the splinter cell series (which I didnt care for too much as MGS has great stories!). At least give it a chance and play it PAST the first level! There are things to hate here for people used to the radar crutch sure but more things to love. If you like the series you'll have already bought this more than likely. This game retains its same point of view as in the past games which might deter some gamers but in the end the gameplay, graphics and storyline are what make this top off the best tactical espionage action series of games around! I find this game as engaging as the original Metal Gear Solid only with more intuitive controls and actions.

better than MGS2 so far.

Alot of interesting things have been added to MGS3 to make it a more enjoyable gaming experience. Now, Snake must use varrying stlyes of camouflage to hide from enimies, hunt down and eat food to stabilize his stamina levels and use medical techiques such as treating gunshot wounds and setting broken bones. So far MGS3 is harder than its precessors because the radar is taken out. You now must use your sences to move past your foes. The camo suits are really well done and give snake a cool Ramboesque look to him. The controls are very tight and if you're familar with the previous games moving around shouldn't be a problem for you. So far the game is a real joy to play. The Cold War setting and cinematography give real character to the game. The only problem is that some of the villans are kind of goofy. If seems that they try to match the great cast of villans they had from the first one but keep missing the mark. With that aside it's a great installment to the MGS gaming line.

Perfect in Almost Every Way

Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater, (said to be the last in the MGS trilogy, although a fourth has been announced) is not only the best game of the year, it is one of the best games ever made. Gamers disappointed by the story and "secret" character in MGS2 Sons of Liberty need not worry; Snake Eater has no huge surprises, (although the plot does twist and turn).
Snake Eater is a prequel to the first two MGS games; (and actually, I believe, takes place before the original Metal Gear as well). It takes place in the 1960's, in the jungles of Russia, and as usual, a lone hero, 'Snake', is sent in to stop a nuclear battle tank from launching.
Snake Eater is an enormous step forward for the series gameplay-wise. Firstly, no longer do you have a radar. You'll be utilizing various camaflouged uniforms to blend in to your surroundings and hide from enemies. Also, since it is in a jungle, hiding from enemies is much more difficult. No longer can you simply run around a corner or hide in a locker. There are no corners or lockers, (save for a few instances when you arrive at enemy compounds). You'll have to hide behind trees, on your belly in tall grass, or even up on a branch.
New to combat is the CQC (Close Quarters Combat) system. Get close enough to grab and enemy, and wealth of options are open to you. Slit his throat; break his neck; throw him to the ground; use him as a human shield while shooting over his shoulder; or interrogate him for information. Very cool, and very useful.
Boss fights, and boss characters, as usual, are amazing. The characters are intriguing, and the fights require skill and brainpower to beat. PLus, instead of fighting in enclosed areas, some fights take place in the jungle, and one sniper duel in particular spans many screens, and a whole lot of space.
The graphics are phenomenal, the best seen on the Playstation 2, and easily able to rival graphics found on competing systems. Faces and character models are accurate and detailed, as well as extremely well animated. The environments are huge, and varied. Sun light streams down through the trees, fish swim in fast moving streams, snakes slither by you on the ground, and crocodiles sun themselves on small islands.
Which brings me to another new aspect of the game: survival. In addition to your health bar, you now have a stamina bar. And instead of using rations to increase your health bar, your health will recover automatically over time, and the speed at which it recovers is directly determined by how much stamina you have. Kill and eat food, (snakes, fruit, mushrooms, deer, rabbits, etc) to regain stamina. If your stamina drops too low your aim will get shaky, and your wounds won't heal well.
And on the subject of wounds, another new addition is the treatment of injuries you sustain during the game. It is done through the pause menu, and you have to treat everything from broken bones, to burns, bullet wounds, and deep cuts.
Add to all this the amazing story, and writing, plus the always unbelievably voice acting, (the MGS series blows all other games away in this department), and you've got yourself the game of the year. I strongly suggest purchasing it. I do not think you will be disappointed.

A must have spy/stealth game for the PS2

If you liked this review, feel free to click my name and check out my others.

Don't let the game title fool you, this game stands alone. If you've never gotten into the Metal Gear series, this would not be a bad place to start, after all, it's also the latest and greatest for PS2. Snake Eater will take you for a good ride in both gameplay and story.

Story 4.5/5: The game tells the "origin story" of a central character in the Metal Gear series known here as "Naked Snake." As a top field operative for the CIA, you infiltrate a remote facility in the Wilderness of the Soviet Union during the Cold War to take one of their top weapons developers into custody. You quickly find yourself in over your head, as your mission is complicated by other cloak and dagger operations at work. As a result your mission changes to prevent the Soviets from getting their hands on technology that could end the Cold War and bring about a nuclear holocaust. Through the course of the game you will encounter other operatives and adversaries that will reveal plot twists, causing you to question who you can trust. The twists and turns can be elaborate and hoaky but given the fact that it's basically like a spy novel, that's to be expected. I enjoyed how events played out and on the whole really liked the story's revelations.

Gameplay 4.5/5: The gameplay of Snake Eater is very well designed and ultimately I applaud the designers for providing us with a stealth tactics title that allows for so many control operations. Since the point of this game is to complete your missions without being seen, it poses some interesting challenges. However, you are given a lot of moves/weapons/tactics that can make this possible.

Your moves include: crouching, crawling, stalking (walking quietly), peering around corners, peering over objects/on tiptoes, leaning, grabbing enemies from behind, choking enemies unconscious/neckbreaking/throat slitting, and ofcourse hand to hand combat/grappling.

Your Weapons: A highly useful array of silenced pistols and rifles, smoke and stun grenades, mines, and mostly useless power weapons that make far too much noise to be handy. On top of this the game allows you to trap live animals including venomous snakes which in turn can be used as a silent weapon to toss on unsuspecting enemies. While dressed incognito, you can also make use of some snazzy sleeping-gas loaded cigarettes to puff unsuspecting enemies unconscious.

Tactics: This is where the game really shines. Use your imagination, because the game gives you a LOT of room to improvise. The developers have created all sorts of fun ways to evade and defeat enemies. By catching enemies off guard you can sneak up on them and interrogate them by threatening to slit their throat. They will give lots of helpful information including radio frequencies to call off enemy alerts/requisition artillery fire, locate munitions and rations depots, or just give hints on how to handicap the enemies resources. Knock out comms officers to prevent enemy radio support. Sabotage a provisions storehouse then leave poisoned/rotten food for enemies to discover and choke on. Sneak in and destroy weapons storage to limit the enemy's ammo supply. Toss empty clips to create a noise and get the enemy to look the other way. Shoot beehives from tree branches to get swarms to attack nearby soldiers, carry a cardboard box around and hide under it as enemies walk by. Wear a crocodile head a la James Bond and peer around corners on your belly to frighten soldiers, or just swim with it on to prevent nearby enemies from realizing you're close. Use local flora and fauna to feed yourself and heal stamina/dress and clean your wounds. Collect different camouflage uniforms for use in different terrains to make it harder for enemies to spot you. Hide in: tall grass, logs, hollows, tree branches, air shafts, lockers, and under tables, gas tanks, cars, etc. Knock on a door, and when the enemy opens up, jump him!!

Your vast menu of equipment will be very useful in spotting enemies before they spot you. Use infrared vision to see camouflaged enemies/ spot fresh footprints. Use standard binoculars or a rifle scope to view the area ahead. Hide with a directional microphone and aim it till you locate footsteps/hear an enemies breath patterns. Use radar and/or sonar in various situations to pinpoint adversaries without giving yourself away. Inject yourself with pentazamine to stop your aim from shaking when attempting that lucky shot from a far off distance. In effect you can be as harmless or as ruthless to the enemy as you wish and still have complete success in the game. I have yet to play another game that allows the player to display this much versatility in execution. To me that's game play.

My only complaint is the camera control are limited and sometimes choppy particularly when pressed with your back against a wall/peering around a corner. The camera shift can often happen at the worst moment possible, in effect reversing your controls and causing you to go from hiding securely to running out in the open where enemies are free to punch you full of holes. This problem has not been solved since MGS2 either. Come on guys, fix this!

Graphics 5/5: I really haven't seen much better for the PS2. The jungle scenes are well designed and really make you feel like you're roughing it trudging through the mud and weeds. The place is crawling with all sorts of tasty/digusting things to kill and eat. From poison dart frogs, flying squirrels, or mountain goat, to Snakes favorite meal, SNAKE! The rendering and animation is well done for all of these. Nothing like stalking through the weeds on your stomach ready to pounce on an unsuspecting officer when suddenly a King Cobra slithers in front of you and raises up on it's tail ready to strike. The atmospheric effects are well done and really put you in the moment. The greatest achievement is the character animations which are tight and realistic and the look of the characters are beautifully realized.

Sound 5/5: No complaints here. There wasn't a single off sound in the game. The ambience in various settings whether it's industrial or in the wilderness gets the job done. High production values here, and the music builds mood without being intrusive. Voice over dialogue is well cast and except for the guy who voices Sokolov (he's in other games too, I hate his voice, sounds like a monster truck announcer, check imdb for more info). Everyone else is good though, and David Hayter does his usual gruff and macho Snake voice with gusto.

Replay value: Yes. The game is packed with side objectives/easter eggs/special challenges to give you reason to come back to the game after you beat it. There are several difficulties to raise the stakes and make detection harder to avoid.

Conclusion:
If you've never played an MGS game, play this one first! It won't ruin anything for you as it is technically a "prequel" so you won't need to know any back story. The story is also better and the characters are more interesting. The gameplay is some of the best I've seen and you can really get into the spy/thriller mood of the game. You won't be disappointed by the graphics and sound, and you can spend hours finding new creative ways of passing a mission. In short, I classify this as a must-have for the PS2.

Best MGS Game to date.

I have just beat the game, and let me say I never got so much fulfillment in any other MGS games than this one. The game basically is a prequal (in case you didnt know already) to the popular MGS series. I wont give too much of the game away, but some of the Boss battles are the best I have ever played against (preferably the End and the Boss). The story line is much easier to understand too, compared to MGS2 and MGS. And to all of you worried about "Raiden" being in the game, I will say this to you. Dont worry, he is not a main character. As a matter of fact, you barely see him (lol).

I was also happy to see Ocelot as a young man. In the game he is fairly new to combat, and admires Snake to a certain extent. As a matter of fact, some of the cutscenes with Ocelot are pretty hilarious, but you find out how he becomes known as Revolver Ocelot.

If you have played and loved the MGS Franchise, MGS 3 will be a very worthwhile game to play. Plus if you enjoyed the series as much as I, you will not dispute that this is the best game of the series to date.

Snake Eater

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, is definitely one of the greatest action/stealth games to ever come out, and a great installation to the MGS series. In Snake Eater, the era is The Cold War, 1964 (9 years before the birth of Solid), you play as Jack (I can't remember if he has a last name), a trained American operative that is sent to go behind Russian lines to rescue a researcher by the name of Sokolov. However, like every MGS game, your mission soon ends up flopping and the story expands to where you need to defeat a team of freaks and save the world from another walking battle tank, referred to as "Metal Gear."

Video: The graphics in this game are superb, the jungle environments look very nice and works splendidly with the camouflage system. In this game, the enemies pay less regard to dark or light (like they do in splinter cell) and pay more regard to how well your different suits blend in with the background. The characters are very nicely done and are good to look at. The foliage is nicely done as well, and aids to camouflage Jack (Snake, if you want to call him that) even more.

Audio: As always in MGS games, the audio is also extremely well done. The voice-acting is perfect and the sounds of gunshots sound realistic. The great ambient sounds range from the waving trees of the jungle to the echoing space of a cold, stone-walled building. However, as in most Japanese gamers, the lip-syncing is not perfect, but that's to be expected, since the lip-syncing is meant for the Japanese language. The music in this game is also very well done, especially the opening theme, which is named, well, "Snake Eater."

Gameplay: Here's where it counts, the gameplay. The gameplay is smooth and fluid. A great addition to the gameplay is the Survival Knife and CQC (close-quarters-combat), CQC allows Snake to perform many more cool-looking moves than in previous Metal Gear Solid games. The game is also a lot more realistic than the previous MGS games, for instance, you can't simply eat a ration to restore health, instead, you must sit and wait for your health to replenish. You also now have a "Stamina" bar, which is basically how full your stomach is. This introduces another new element to the MGS series: hunting. Snake must now hunt for food in order to keep his stamina bar up, if his stamina is up, he can recover health more quickly, if the stamina bar runs out, your health will begin depleting. Gunplay is as good as ever and controls just as well. The boss fights in this game are fantastic, as each enemy is different.
**Hint**:In the cutscene right after The Boss explains to Col. Volgin that The End is always sleeping, or, "Normally, he's dead." After this cutscene, you get a chance to skip the boss fight with The End. If you are quick enough, pull out any lethal gun and try and pop The End while he's being wheeled away on his chair, if you are successful, you will fight the Ocelots instead of The End.**End Hint**

Story: The game's story is easier to understand than MGS2's and helps uncover exactly what "The Patriots" are, as well as tell of the Big Boss's past. I would rather not give away any highlights of the story so I'll end it there.

Snake Eater is truly one of the greatest Action/Stealth games to come out in our lifetime. I definitely reccomend this game to any PS2 owner's library.

I would like to say that I rate MG3 over the previous 2 games in the series, but honestly I thought all 3 of them were perfect and there wasn't a thing you could add to them to make them better. This game is no acception. This game adds elements not seen in the previous two, but it keeps all the good features. You will feel right at home. At first playing the game I was skeptical. The jungle enviornments were big, hard to see. But once you got used to them you loved them. The storyline for this one was in depth and just plain awesome. My favorite part though? The bosses. I always love seeing what they come up with.

Ocelot: Ocelot has always been a big part of the series, in fact I would say that he is probably the main enemy. If you notice he is in all three games.

The Pain: This boss had to be one of my favorites, for the cinematics anyways. He wasn't that hard to beat. This guy controls bees, lots and lots of them.

The Fear: I refer to him as the lizard man. He reminds me of the Predator, he has camaflauge that makes him invisible, he can leap through trees. My least favorite, but still pretty cool.

The End: I thought the idea of this guy was cool, an old guy that saves himself up for battle, the father of sniping. You thought the sniper battle from MG1 was hard? Try this one on for size. The guy is in camaflauge in a huge area that spans 3 different areas. I spent 2 hours just trying to see him once while he shot me over and over again, and after all that time, he just snuck up behind me and shot me in the head. The hardest boss to battle ever, however you can circumvent the entire fight sequence with him by shooting him in the head early in the game, which I thought was a major plus because I did not have the patience to kill him the right way. Great idea though.

The Fury: Flaming pissed this guy was. Probably some of the coolest flame throwing sequences i have ever seen in a game. But beating him was simple, if you just run up and slash him with your knife 3 times he is dead.

The Sorrow: Probably the coolest charicter ever. The Sorrow is a ghost that acts as a medium for the deceased. He speaks to the living. The fight sequence with him is absolutly awesome, you confront everyone that you have killed in the game. He ultimatly kills Volkov in the end. My favorite MG charicter to date.

Volkov: Electrified and ready for battle. If you know how to defeat him he is pretty simple, however if you do not he is impossible.

Shagohad: The beginnings of Metal Gear. Not a bad start, I did think the other models were more intimidating.

The Boss: You get your ass kicked the entire game by your mentor, or your master. At the end you do battle with her. The arena was the coolest ever, it is even timed. If you dont make it by the time limit you both die. In the end you find out that The Boss really wasnt against you, everyone views her as a trator, you are the only one that views her as a hero.

Aside from the Fear I loved every evil villan in this game. I cannot wait for the 4rth edition to come out.
