Inexcusably Horrible Camera

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 2 / 9

This game had so much potential, so much hype, and it did not deliver up to the expectation whatsoever. The horrendous camera angle/system completely distorts the gameplay, making it next to impossible to engage in combat effectively. The overhead camera cannot be rotated, which means you cannot see more than 10 feet in front of you unless you go into 1st person perspective, but if you do so, you cannot move.

I really hoped this game would be much better, but sadly it is extremely disappointing experience. Do yourself a favor and rent before you buy.

Just got it....

metal gear 1 i say is by far the best ever game for any console it had the most amazing story line great graphics and brilliant gameplay which is why i couldnt sleep untill i knew when two was comin out and its the only reason i bought a ps2 now when two came out it was good but it wasn't even near the standards of one sure it had great graphics nice story line but it was missing solid snake instead they put in this cheesy blond wuss, now i know konamis been gettin millions of letters cause of riden and im pretty sure this next is gonna have great graphics brilliant gameplay and thnk god its in the 60s so theres no riden and hopefully we'll learn more about the patriots

In my opinion, this definitely is in my top five games ever. The gameplay, the story, the graphics, the "cinematography" - it's all stellar. The game starts out a bit slow, but it really picks up and the finale is nothing short of astounding. I don't like elaborating that much, but if you are thinking about getting this game, don't hold back.

Typical Metal Gear.....bad camera angles

I have been playing MGS since its first debut on PS1. However, times have changed, and Hideo Kojima still uses bad camera angles. Yes, the camera angles are different in MGS3, but I still really can't see where I'm going or gauge my position in my environment. The enemy is located offscreen and they can see me but I can't see them, then when they start shooting at me its hard to locate where the shots are coming from. I have go into first person view to see 20 yards in front of me.....that's not good.

There are many other "third person view" that provide very good camera angles such as Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell. It gives the user about 170 degree front view angle as you move throughout the environment. So when I play MGS3, its like taking a step back. I understand that this is typical MGS but its difficult getting use to.........actually annoying.

Anyway, enough complaining. I still recommend MGS3 to anyone who likes stealth espionage games. There has been a confirmed report that there will be another game in the MGS series, that will be something to look forward to.

The best Metal Gear Yet.......

for Metal Gear fans this is the best one yet. the story does not get in the way of the action, and the story is actaully very interesting. there are some lengthy cut scenes but if you arent playing through a second time it isnt a problem. the only real problem this game has is the camera style, trying to be stealthy and not being able to see where people becomes a problem sometimes. you basically just have to crawl and hope.

but the good points of this game far overshadow the bad ones. you have to hunt for food to keep you stamina up, or else your stomach will growl and alert guards. you can get seriously injured and have to perform first aid on yourself. the close quarter combat system is very cool, you can do anything from snaeking up on someone and cutting thier throat with a knife, flip them to the ground and knock them out, interrogate them, or use them as a human shield. you also have various camoflauge suits to find to help you sneak by undetected. there is just too much goodness in this game for me describe it all, the level of detail is amazing as well. you can shoot the radio the guards carry so he cant call for help. that is just one of the things you can do.

--------Spoiler-----------

this is for those that have already beaten the game. the snake in this game is not the real snake. if you will notice at the end he is given the name big boss. that is who the real snake kills in the original Metal Gear. you might also notice it said that big boss' children were born in 1972, that would be solid snake and liquid snake. this is one of the reasons this is the best Metal Gear, it gives a lot of reference to the first one.

Simply The Best- Ever

Metal Gear Solid 3 goes oer any game in existance. It definatly goes over MGS2 without a doubt, but even goes over MGS1. The game starts off very slow, as you play Big Boss in 1964 during the middle of the Cold War. Your mission is to rescue Dr. Sokolov, a weapons scientist that is reqesting asylum in America, because of hs own creations; he's become afraid of them. Unlike MGS2, this installment has a much more straitforward story, more like MGS1, but still turns completely around at the end.
As you probably know, this game takes place in Tesniyarslinsk, Russia in a jungle (mostly). There are more parts though like a big mountain, underground tunnels, a labratory, and at the end- the (supposedly) unnpennetrable fortress of Graznyj Grad. That is where Sokolov and his new bipedal nuclear tank, the Shagohod, is being held.
For those of you who were following the game trailer the past few months, you might be scared that a form of Raiden is in the game. Fear not, because it is just a look-alike. His name is Colonel if you still don't beleive me. And no second playable characters this time. This game is 100% Big Boss. You do have a girl named EVA that follows you around alot of the game, but you don't ever play as her.
This games combat system is even better than previous games too. This time around you can get a old version type of Socom, a tranq, a shotgun, a sniper rifle, an old kind of M4, and AK-47, a machine gun, and once you beat the game you get the Patriot Gun (a machine gun with unlimited ammo), and if you chose the right revolver at the end, ou can unlock the Single Action Army. The newest addition into this game is the CQC combat system. This allows you to grab an enemy and do what you want- choke him to death, slit his throat, interogate him, or throw him down on the ground to knock him out. The other dition is the food hunting system. This time you must hunt for food to say healthy and not starve to death. This is a very cool addition.
The graphics in this game are even an accomplishment for an XBOX, so you can imagine how long it took Konami to get it on a PS2. The jungles are all smooth, all different trees, streams, and at least 30 different animals. There is an occasional drop in frame rate due to the immense size of the game itself (the first time you play it and watch all the scenes, it'll take you at least 15-20 hours worth). The souns of-course is top notch, and great composing by Harry-Gregson Williams. The voice acting is the best to come out of any game by far yet.
So if you're looking for a good game to occupy some time, have fun doing it, get this game. Even if you beat it, you'll go back for all of the hilarious "easter eggs" hidden throughout the entire game. You won't regret it. LONG LIVE METAL GEAR SOLID!!!!!!

Best Game Ever

The first metal gear solid game was the best PS1 game ever (its probably the best Gamecube game too, but i don't need to get the remake). MGS2 was even better (lets forget raiden, ok?)and if raiden really does bother you, get a little game called Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, that will fix that problem. I didn't think anything could be better, but i was wrong. MGS3 is the best game ever. Everything is better. The combat (thanks to CQC), the Bosses (the fight against The End is one of the greatest boss fights EVER) and even the main character is better (he is Big Boss before he got that title). Get it. NOW.

While many Loved metal gear solid for addicting gameplay and great storyline and disliked metal gear solid 2:sons of liberty for its bad storyline and endless cutscenes(I liked both of these games)Metal Gear Solid 3:Snake Eater exceeds all games in graphics, gameplay, and storyline. No game comes close. Not then and not now.Hideo Kojima really impressed me woth this game.I had thought that it wouldn't have been as good as sons of liberty but i was gladly wrong. If you own a ps2 and haven't played snake eater there is some thing wrong with you. The game is now only $30.00.I payed 50 and got my moneys worth.I don't think I could ever give a game 5 stars now after playing this game.

Best Stealth game on the market.
