This is in response to David Maurer's problem...
Hey Dave. What you're describing is a phenomenon known as "scaling". If your monitor is 1900 x 1200 native, it's HD. Snake Eater plays in 480i which is SD (standard definition). When you feed your TV (or monitor) a video of this size it will try to "scale" it to its native resolution resulting in these weird "artifacts", so far I don't know why monitors don't properly upscale this. This happens on my brother's HDTV too, so you're not alone. Your best option right now would be to play it on an SDTV with a component cable. I've seen it on my friend's, trust me it looks nice! But keep in mind this IS the PS2 hardware we're talking about so it won't look as amazing as games running on your monsterous box.
Your other, probably out of the question, option would be to wait for PS3 which is supposed to PROPERLY upscale PS2 games.
Another HD tip: DVDs DON'T play in HD!! (This is a common misconception) For proper DVD upscaling please see the Oppo player at www.oppodigital.com
I hope this helps.
You can thank me by removing your negative review of the game.

Metal Gear Solid,in my opinion,is one of the best videogame series I`ve ever played. The games are great, you can sneak around while guards don`t have the slightest clue about you,or you can mow all of them down easily, the story is very rich and plays a major part of MGS it can bring different emotions, the plot is very easy to understand and can leave gamers with questions at the end of each game, the characters are all thought out and play an important role in the storyline.
MGS1 was a great game,MGS2 was also great but MGS3 is simply the best yet, that of coarse is until MGS4 comes out on the PS3 and MGS:Portable Ops comes out for PSP.(I luckily have a PSP for something like 8 months)
In MGS3 which is set in 1964 during the Cold War,you take control of a soldier who has just performed the worlds first HALO jump into a cold Russian jungle,he removes his parachuting equipment and his oxygen mask, then you get a good look at his face you may recognise him,he looks alot like the well-known Solid Snake, but this is not him, this is 1964 and Solid Snake was even born until 1972,no my friend, this is Naked Snake,or you can just call him "Snake" as he is THE original Snake.
Snake is on a mission in this Russian Jungle to resque a Soviet scientist named Dr.Sokolov,Sokolov had defected to the U.S. from USSR so him and his family could move on and not be forced to be making rockets and missiles, the reason Sokolov has been brought back to USSR is because of a deal the US and USSR made,USSR agreed to remove its missiles from Cuba in order for thr US to give back Sokolov to them.
Thats the story, but I don`t wnat to spoil anymore than I have.
The gameplay is a great step forward, you still have the traditional stealth action and hiding, but you know have four new gameplay elements:
Camouflage:Pick the right battledress, pick the right facepaint in order to blend in with your surroundings, stay still or if you need to move, move slowly using the D-Pad.The higher the camo index, the more the guard is completely blind to see you.But if you pick the wrong BDU and wrong facepaint for that area, you will stand out like a sore thumb and the guard will see you and proceed to attack.I rate this feature 9/10,it was very clever of Hideo Kojima to add this and is fun to use,I hope it will be in future games.
Close Quarters Combat(CQC):
This is another realistic feature and is actually like the CQC they use in real-life in the military. The CQC feature is helpful in both sneaking mode and when you are running from enemies.
In order to execute CQC,you must have a knife(you can also use a fork, believe it or not),a handgun can also be very useful but aslong as you have a knife/fork,its alright.
In sneaking mode, you can use the D-pad to sneak up on a guard and then put him in a chokehold, you can press down L3 and interrogate him for hints and information, you can put the knife to his throat and proceed to slitting it,you can knock him out by shaking his neck hard,or you simply keep shaking his neck until it goes SNAP.You can also knock him out by slamming him against the floor or trip him up.
When running from guards and you don`t have enough time to put them in chokeholds, then you can run up to a guard and grab his shoulders, and slam him,or you could just be running and then trip him up.I rate this feature 8.5/10,its great but not enough variety, but MGS4 will have even more variety so I`m happy.
Healing system:
This feature is not exactly the most boastable feature in MGS3,but it still gives that survival feel. When you get shot, you need to go into the survival viewer and bandage it up,when you get bitten by a venomous animal such as a snake, you need to inject yourslef with syrum.I rate this feature 7/10,its good and everything but it takes up so much time.
Eating to replenish stamina:
I like this feature alot, you now have a stamina meter under Snakes life meter and the stamina plays a huge role in this game,if you neglect Snakes stamina,he will of coarse become hungry to the extent it affects gameplay, you won`t be able shoot streight, you won`t be able to dive under water for that long nor grip onto ledges for long either before dropping off and maybe dying, this feature is not actually as bad as it sounds,Snake doesn`t go hungry every five seconds, but in real-life time, gets hungry about every 20 minutes or even longer.
You must hunt for jungle animals and plants for them to be used as food, although you can find some man-made food such as Calorie Mates and military rations, depending on the food Snake will have different reactions to them,if you eat something such as a military ration or ink cap mushroom,Snake will depise of the taste and this will result in very little if any stamina. But if you eat something he likes such as a Calorie Mate, most snakes or honey,Snake will say something like "This tastes so good!" and it may result in Snake getting 50%-100% stamina fill.
I love this feature so it gets a 9.5/10.
If you have not played MGS3 and you do like action-adventure-stealth games, then buy Metal Gear Solid 3:Subsistence,that is the updated version and is at a cheap price such as [...] Dollars, you can play online multiplayer with Subsistence, you get a new updated camera, sectet theater and demo theater aswell as the very first Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2:Solid Snake. This is a must-buy.
The story of MGS3 after you finish this is going to be continued in Metal Gear Solid:Poratble Ops,so if you have a PSP,get that game when it comes out!

The game starts VERY slowly, with a lot of LOOOOOOONG cut scenes, cut scenes that make the first 20 - 30 minutes border on the unplayable side. In fact, I was close to throwing in the towel 20 minutes in, I'm glad I held on to keep playing.
If you're into stealth/strategy - war games, this is the one for you. I often talk about how in today's time, developers need to not only create a great 'gaming' experience, the underlying story has to keep the player engaged. Snake Eater is unusual in that most developers focus on the gameplay first and the story second. This one's all about the story first, then the gaming experience. Both by the way are excellent!
The Boss Battles are tough and original, but not impossible. The weapons upgrades and 'eating' add depth to the experience. The camera angle is a bit tricky and takes time getting used to but is effective overall.
If you liked Metal Gear Solid 2, you'll love number 3, it's also a prequel, so if you haven't played '2' it actually makes sense to play this one first, sort of like Star Wars... Solid, solid effort!

I've had MGS3 since it came out, but finally came around to write the review. Let me tell you this game is incredible. Everything is completly amazing. The graphics, plot, well everything. Well the only downside is the notorious bad camera. Everybody has been complaing about that since the first one. But if you look past that you will immerse yourself in one of the best games to date to grace any system.
pros: graphics
plot
gameplay
its MGS
cons: camera
sometimes chuggs in big spaces

This is an amazing game! Each environment is rich with incredibly realistic animation, the characters really suit their voices and the story is so powerful and intense. Snake is DA BEST [and quite cute for an animation!!!] and I really like the character Eva, Snake's lover. She and Snake end up falling in love. It is so sad in the end when she leaves him all alone with a tape that says she was his enemy. I almost cried!!! [ALMOST!!!]
The End is really freaky [he made me jump!]Thank you for making a game with a boss who actually freaked me out!!! All the Bosses are unique, supernatural and nothing like I've ever seen before!
The Boss is a good character aswell. Was she Snake's mom?
Anyway, just as my title says ABSOLOUTELY INCREDIBLE!!!TOTALLY BOSS!!! A wonderful story about greed, fear, anger and passionate love. Definetely 10/10!!!!

This game has it all amazing boss battles, moments that will have you asking you friend "Did you see that part when Snake did this?" The Graphics are Beautifully done the music mixes pergectly with the game. The cut scenes are long but they are worth watching. The only bad thing about this game is the camera can be a little quirky but they are workable. Can't wait to check out the new Camera in Metal Gear Solid 3 Substance. You can really see the thought and love that Hideo Kojima and his team has put into this game. I love the fact that you can actually off one the bosses "The End" before you square off against him.
If call yourself a gamer you have to pick up MGS 3 snake eater

I cannot believe this game is coming in November! I seriously thought it would come in 2004.
I'm not absolutely sure if you actually play the "mullet-loving hero" (Snake) The only thing I know about this game is that it takes place before the first Metal Gear for MSX and the NES.
it takes place in the 1960's. I just hope you don't have to play a dork like Raiden.
great game...just too short and i really give this a 4.5 but that's not an option

So when they decided to remove the radar did they realize how unplayable this game would become? You are constantly being caught because of the terrible camera angles. You'll be constantly shifting to the first person view just to see where you are going and who may be in front of you. You can no longer see the range of view for the bad guys so you'll be getting caught alot, you can pretty much forget the whole stealth aspect since konami has made this an impossible task. You spend most of your time waiting for the alert status to lower just to get caught again and again and again. This is the worst idea for the MGS series ever. I loved the first and second games and was looking for a good challenge with a new story line but instead I got one giant headache and a wasted 50 bucks for a game I can't even finish and even if I do I can't say I had fun doing it. Metal Gear Solid is no longer fun to play.
