This is by far one of the most masterful pieces of work I've ever played. The storyline is compelling and believable (the GTA mission premises tended to get far-fetched at times), which was a great plus for me. Also, the detail in the environments is outstanding. And for those who prefer absolute anarchy over a storyline, a "Free Ride" mode is also offered, allowing you to do whatever you please.
I've noticed that many reviewers accuse the cars of being heavy or clumsy. If these people actually took the time to finish, then they would be aware that as you progress, you get your hands on some remarkably beautiful, slick wheels. I will admit that the load times are lengthy, but I'm a very patient person so that didn't cause much of a problem for me.
I don't know what everyone is talking about when they speak of fog, faulty headshots, and enemies that never miss. My field of vision was crystal clear; my headshots were as effective as they should've been; my enemies never hit me or walked through doors or anything of the sort, as long as I was taking cover.
This may start out slow for some, but if you stick with it you'll unlock some fantastic cars and excellent missions, including a bank heist. The load times are a force to be reckoned with, but everything is worth the wait.
Its Really Fun

I think Mafia is a really fun game i mean its sorta like Grand Theft Auto 3's Mafia only you stick with the Mafia the whoel time and not going from gang to gang it also has a very good story which kept me wanting more not only that but the missions were thought out and potrayed well on detail i never played the pc version but still this game is awesome and i looked on amazon.com and thought why is the overall review 3 stars no way i think the over all review is 5 because that is what it really is this game is a masterpiece
Pros
Very Thoughtful Missions That make You actually Feel like you are a part of the mob
A Very Good Story that makes you play on for hours
Unlockable Cars as you progress through the game
A Nice Choice Of Guns For Everlasting Fun
Cons
Cars take some time getting used too
The beginning of the game may seem a little boring but just hang in there
..........but all in all its a great game i love the missions alot better than Grand theft Auto 3's missions and Vice City's if you are looking for a good Mobster game and you want to kill hours of time then this is for you
It's aiight but kinda corny

This game is okay, but I don't believe it deserves 5 stars. I'm feelin' the whole 1930s thing. What I hate is the terribly slow loading times, and in my view the graphics are horrible. Another thing I hate is when you kill someone and they don't even bleed, they just fade away. Basically what I'm saying is just rent it don't buy it. It'd definitely be a waste.

I played this game and loved it. The intro was aswsome, but this game is more of a driving game. The gun fightin sceans are great. The game is pretty realistic. It's based in the '30's so don't think it's like GTA. The missons are hard but fun to do.
The wepeons are great. The cars are too. You can roam around the city too. The only thing I don't like in this game is the constant loading

Mafia is a game set in 1930's Chicago that places you in the body of a street criminal wanting to be the infamous "Made Man". In this game you get to do all kinds of missions, strike drug deals and play freeplay where you get to roam the enormous city to do things like beat cops and show the unfortunate gangsters that owe you money who is boss. This is what the whole game is about. Showing the city that you mean business and are the boss.
This game has tons of great stuff. It has the classic Tommy gun and many other weapons such as throwing knives and pistols. This is an awesome game!

Mafia is definatly worth the $50 that it is. It is divided into three modes:
-The story (that's where all the missions take place)
-Free Ride (Where you rome around the city shooting people with fast prototype cars,
-Racing
It's set in the 330's where you play Tommy, a taxi driver that mixes up in the mob and become one the boss's key players. The storyline has a good beginning, a good ending, and a mediocure middle. You can all types of cars to put in your garage from a four door luxury to a one seater race car. Some missions can get difficult so if you have an acton replay or gameshark tou'll probably havr to use it. I'd give it an 80% for storyline, 95% for gameplay, 92% for fun level, and an 80% for furusteration level.
Free Ride is fun but you don't see the awsome cars that you see on the road toward the end of the game. The only Con of the Free ride mode is that the trains, trollies, and police are not accesible. Oh well. The racing mode really blows. The cars handle poorly and one bump send you flying. It's more fun to go at high speeds during the Free Ride mode or the Story Mode.
Pros:
Good gameplay
Exstensive weapon choices
Cool Cars
Good Storyline
Cons:
Poor Racing Mode
Trains and police don't work in Free Ride Mode
Some missions are furusterating
Bottom Line: If you liked games Like Grand Theft Auto and you like the 30's, buy this game.

this game was great. By the first leval I was addicted. I disagree with the people who say thes game is "crap" sure there are pros and cons. But if you like action games and you like the 1930' you will love this game, and I have yet to find a better one.
Pros:
realistic
cool cars
good gun selection
cool storyline
auto save
and such there are more but I don't have time
Cons:
long loading speeds
auto aim doesn't always work
Like I said theree arre some flaws but they are out weighed by what they did right. There are heath packs in the levels though not many they are the tan first aid boxes on the walls.I finshed the gamein one weekend, and was kind of dissapointed. But if the makers of Mafia wanted to try again, eliminate the flaws and make it longer I would comend them for it. If you enjoy realistic mob games especially ones taking place in the past this game is a must. At least try to rent it.
pretty good game (4 1/2 stars)

This is one of the best games I have ever played that took place in the 1930's (actually only.) You play as a taxi driver named Tommy who is pretty much down on his luck (you can imagine because of the great depression.) So it all starts when "Tom" is at his taxi waiting for a customer when he hears a couple of gun shots rang out and he realizes it's a gang fight. The Mafia guys need to get out of there quick so the abduct Tommy and force him to drive him to their hide out (by gun point.) So that's what happens first and you know I don't want to give out anymore things lol. Anyway the game starts off a little slow but if you stick with it you'll love it. Oh yeah the cars are a little slow at first but, again, if you stick with it you'll get faster ones.
Mafia- Good but not great

Don't get me wrong this game is awesome. I barely gave it 4 stars I wanted to give it a 3 1/2 stars. The grapics are ok and not all that great and for the sound it's average. I personally like the driving with all the old school cars and how the cops chase you if you speed. The biggest flaw in the game would be walking. When you walk it just looks like your standing in one spot and the backround moves. Besides that though the driving and shooting is pretty good. One more problem with the game is also the loading time they are very long. With all these problems it is still a great game which you should check out.
