Differences between the PC version

I recommend the PC version over the PS2 version. When going from one section of the city to another the game interrupts for over thirty seconds to load the other portion of the city. This definetly kills the mood when one is traveling at high speeds to evade the cops or enemy only to find a car directly in front of you once the game continues. Also, the graphics are poor and I noticed that there is no diversity in the background people. There are no women on the streets and and only men. Overall, the PC version is better.

This is a very good game.Graphics are not that bad but could have been better in my opinion. The car handiling is great. It really feels like an old car.The loading time is kind of long but it could have been worse. The game is great for a shooting game also.To explain this game I would say it is a gta game set in the 1930s.This is a very good game.

Mafia a knew game for PS2 is the knew best game. The game is great. The first few missions are alright nothing too exiting but as you get into the missions it getS really exciting, and agrivating at the same time. You race the fastest cars around, you do numerous mafia hits, rob a bank, escape from the cops, do drug deals, and protect the don.The weapons are tommy guns, pistols, shotguns, sniper rifle, bats, knives, sticks, crobars, and moltov cocktails. It's kind of like grand theft auto yet, a lot more realistic, and a way better story. The game is like you're playing a movie. The only negative part of the game is the loading it takes a very long time to laod.
You can do free rides where you walk around the enourmous city racing, beating cops, and hitting gangsters that you get money for. I would rate this game among one of the best. Now should you buy or rent it. If you stick to games and play them for hours on end and don't quit you'll finish in about 3-4 days, and the rest of the time you have until the games due do free ride. I finished it in 5. So in my opinion i would rent it.

I've never played this game on computer but even if I had I wouldn't put a review based on a version for one system on a site given over to a different system which seems to be the case for the previous reviews on this board.
I've played the game for a few hours now and already I'm ready to just pack it up and write it off as a loss of $50.
Just a few of the glaring problems with this game:
1. The physical representation of Tommy (you) fades in and out of view constantly. One minute there you are, the next minute you've become the invisible man. The problem occurs without rhyme or reason but seems to be predominant whenever you are manuevering around corners and doorways.
It's disorienting to say the least and all too often it causes you to loose track of your position when trying to outmanuever enemies and results in taking damage or suffering a cheap death.
2. Damage is inconsistant at best - I'm sorry, but if I empty a full round of 6 bullets into a guy's head I expect him to fall over dead. I don't expect him to maintain full motor function, move to the side and then proceed to blow me away with just 3 shots when my health is at 100%.
3. Enemies are able to walk through solid substances as though they were ghosts. While sheltering behind a door I had one enemy just literally walk through the door with gun blazing. Pretty cool trick but I thought this game took place in 1930 and I don't think particle matter displacement existed in those days.
4. Enemies never miss. I don't want enemies that can't hit me standing still but if I'm dodging around or crouching behind a box, I expect a bullet or two fired from a revolver to miss hitting me from time to time. There's a difference between good enemy AI and just plain sadistic AI and this game doesn't make the differentiation.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents. It's rare that I basically just say "screw it" on a game as I can generally find some enjoyment regardless. But the flaws in the PS2 version of Mafia put you at such a disadvantage in combat situations that it's better to walk away and save your money on something else.
Mafia DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE!!!!

I pre ordered this game because based on all the hype it was gonna be the GTA of this year. FALSE!!! Ridiculous load times, boring pointless missions, impossible steering. This game stinks I played it twice and will be putting it on ebay while someone might still buy it. Save your money and wait for the next GTA coming supposedly this fall!!
This game is great!

First of all, why is everyone talking about GTA? Who cares if it's similar? All video games are basically rip-offs of each other, so what difference does it make? Besides, this game actually has an interesting story line--trying to become a "made man" in Mafia-ruled 1930's New York--whereas GTA is about stealing cars and killing people. THAT'S original. Mafia can be very challenging (i.e. FRUSTRATING) at times, but it just makes you want to play more. I highly recommend this game to all; it beats the heck out of a lot of the games out there. Oh, and while I'm at it, I'll also recommend Manhunt (really twisted but THOROUGHLY excellent).

This game is awesome; I can't put the controller down. You begin the game as a taxi driver and work your way up to Boss of the Mafia. The game has a total of 20 missions ranging from car chases to shoot outs. I am currently only on mission 6 but I am completely hooked on the game. The game takes place in the gangster era during prohibition. Mafia is complete with tommy guns and old model t fords. The game is definitely comparable to GTA. Much like GTA the character can be thrown in Jail or just receive a ticket for speeding, wrecking cars, or killing pedestrians. Throughout the game, your character learns different skills as he progresses through the game. As each mission is accomplished a new car is unlocked and your character learns to hot wire a new vehicle. As the game goes on the plot thickens to a dialogue of your character talking to a police officer but it never disclose too much before you are back in the past completing another mission. This key point is part of the interest that keeps you picking up your controller.
The only bad part of Mafia is the shooting is very inaccurate. The character misses shots if characters are too close.
Whoever made this game should get wacked by the real mafia

I bought this game because I love shooter games and am fascinated by the early 1930's mafia. Thus I should have enjoyed this game thouroughly but I was very dissapointed. I would give both the pros and the cons for this game but I only found cons in the gameplay. First off, the load times are like an hour long. I was able to take a dump during one of them and came back with plent of time to spare. The long load times arnt just before the levels, there are usually several loadings within each mission. you cross a bridge, it has to load, leave or enter a building, it has to load. Half the time that I played the game was spent in front of a load screen. They could have at least put some historical mafia facts for us to read on the load screens to pass time. Secondly, once the level is loaded, trust me, the gameplay is not worth your wait. The levels are incredibly pointless and hard. You spend hours driving around town in a slow 1930's car to and from where the actual mission is. When you get to your mission its even more frustrating. You basically have to make it through the level hardley getting shot at at all. I think the enemys get more health than you because it takes about 5 shots to the head to kill them but it only takes a couple to kill you. The storyline to this game was totally predictable and mushy, not at all what youd expect from a game about the mafia. The main character fell in love, had a kid, and constantly talked about his new family and moral issues with his fellow mafia cronies. There are many other problems with the game but I dont have time to go into them. The only thing you really need to know is that buying this game will be the biggest waste of money and will send the message to game developers that its OK to make crappy games. Dont even rent this game either.

After reading the review of the game, the game sounds like it is going to be a nice game. I hope it have better graphics than any other game. For example, graphics like True Crime. I want to really enjoy the game.
