The Sequel doesn't compare.

The original Kingdom Hearts has it all: gameplay, interactive and explorative environment, superb voice acting and a in-game mechanic that flows beautifully with the story-line-- offering tremendous replay value. Kingdom Hearts II...well...

Good points of the game itself keep one thing intact: voice acting, sound and graphical detail. Square knows what it's doing to keep things authentic and they prove it once again in KH2. You'll think you're watching a Japanese Animation while staring at the constant display of pushing the PS2 to it's limits with all the flashing, and brightly painted worlds. That overall is the most impressive thing about this game...

Bad points of the game are as follows:

1. Well designed levels with absolutely nothing to accomplish besides fighting a diminished an unchallenging number of nobodies and heartless.
2. Too many cut-scenes drag the game down significantly.
3. Fighting controls make the battles too easy and boring over time.
4. One world where you do nothing but sing-a-long.
5. Another world after you defeat it once there is absolutely NOTHING to do.

In other words I'm disappointed. The "reaction" commands are fun to watch, but that's what you'll do. Watch. Press triangle and set the controller down. You'll barely spend time fighting with the "X" button. Levels that you expected to be as virbrantly exploring are alas a mere shell of their former selves, there are no chests where you must wait to gain a certain ability to reach them, and there is no story that you must defeat in order to GAIN that ability to reach that certain chest. There are no TRINITIES, certain abilities you can only use FOR CERTAIN WORLDS. For instance "dodge roll" can only be used at Mickey's Castle, but after you defeat it, there are no more enemies. What a waste.

This game has no replay value whatsoever...unless you NEED to watch the story again that is nearly confusing if you haven't played or at least read upon "Chain of Memories" for the GBA. Speaking of the Story Line, the "cause and effect" is diminished greatly. Nothing dramatic happens. Find the bad guy, take them out, everybody is happy. I'm terribly disappointed. The camera is better for the R3...buy it if you're a fan but DO NOT expect it to be the greatness that is Kingdom Hearts. Unfortunately this game nearly turned the route of Devil May Cry 1 and 2, whereas 2 was horrific.

A Game With A Heart Of Gold

With 98% rave customer reviews out of 106 Amazon entries (before mine) and sales of over 1.3 million copies in little over a month's time, "Kingdom of Hearts II" doesn't need my support or endorsement to recommend this game. But like 106 people before me, I found the game so impressive I felt compelled to add my voice to honor and endorse this game that provided an enjoyable, magical experience in an otherwise hectic world.

Disney and Square spared no expense in the quality of this game. The soundtrack, the graphics, level of difficulty , battle systems, and even the mini-games (which recieve the most complaints) are well thought out and provide entertainment for those from age 7 to seventy.

I had quickly gone through some of the gameplay and worlds ahead of the children that play the game. When I was asked how to build a Gummi Ship, I was stumped. I had no idea I could design my own ship or use a provided template. The game, while appearing to be linear, actually has quite a lot to do.

I, myself, am a terrible gamer and played the game in beginner mode. I was always more than relieved that the battle scenes were over, the eleven year-old boy had problems with a few of the heartless in beginner mode, but caught up to my 40 hours of play in about ten.

For adults, the game lets us, for a moment, glimpse into our childhood. Who can refuse battling the heartless to free King Mickey, especially with Donald Duck and Goofy? I lost most of my battles because I was watching Donald and laughing so hard, I forgot to move.

What I'm happy about, the most, is that, while violent, it isn't a shooter game. I'm an old fuddy duddy, I've known people who have gotten shot. This glorification of shooting or being shot in video games isn't how it is at all, no matter how realistic the blood looks. The sales numbers of "King of Hearts II" refreshingly affirms the fact most us enjoy being entertained by identifying with goodness and having a heart and guarding our hearts from the heartless, instead of dodging bullets.

The game is expensive and worth every penny. You can see where the money went by the quality of voice acting, the incredible animation, and the wonderful storyline, which intertwines story reading and puzzle solving for youngsters who are developing their skills.

This is the very first console game I have played. Lucky for me the game had a baby-step track. I'm a button masher and the game let me get by with it in beginner mode. If you are an accomplished gamer and looking to test your skills, I don't know if that is possible with "Kingdom of Hearts II". From my experience with the game, its more along the lines of a Disney movie that you are caught up in and can't turn away from.

I wish there had more interaction with the dashing, sexy characters from Square. Maybe that was intentional to spur me on to buy the Final fantasy series, if it was, it worked.

All in all "Kingdom of Hearts II" is a marvelous, wonderous, refreshing experience.

This game is really a treasure and one of the best titles on the PS2 right now. I haven't played the first one, but that didn't stop me from wanting to play the sequel. And after playing this....I just hope Square Enix will come out with more. The gameplay is excuisite; The "button-mashing" technique has proved to work. But the most fun part of the game are the different worlds and characters there are to be seen. From Agrabah all the way to the Hundred Acre Wood, and from Halloween Town to the Pride Lands and Port Royal, there are many places to visit. I recommend this game to anyone who is a true gamer. If you don't like it.....I don't no whether to call you crazy or assume that you have no taste in good gaming.

Square, you done it again.

Kingdom hearts 1 was one of the best new RPG'S to come out in years. Many thought with Disney in it it was going to be a child like game. Many were shocked when it came out like me. It's been 4 years, and Kingdom hearts 2 is out finally. But how does it compare to Kingdom hearts 1?

It has been 1 year since the events of KH1. Those how were close contact with Sora seem to be forgeting him....and only holding on to some memories. When the game starts we learn a young man named Roxas is having dreams about Sora. Actually seeing Sora's adventures. Roxas, feeling quite odd goes and finds his friends. But Roxas is greeted by some interesting people. A man named Axel who says he was his best friend and to come back to them, a girl who seems to know him, and man in a black coat, and some white cretures. What Roxas can't understand is why a key has come into his possecion ( sp? ) Meanwhile.... we see a computer doing something to Sora.

If you have played Kingdom heart chain of memories, KH2 will come easier to you. If not, well parts will be confusing. But it is entirely optional.

Pros:

1. Music. The music in KH2 is at it's best. Some pieces may compare to even some Final fantasy songs. The main theme ' Passion' by Utada Hikaru fits perfectly with the theme of the game.

2. Storyline: The story has many twists which keep the player from not stopping to figure out what comes next. The story gets emotional as it nears it's concluion. BUT!! You will have to keep up to understand this game. It is very fast paced and confusing for slower people.

3. Gameplay. As some may have seen, the whole gameplay has changed from KH1. There are now reaction commands which keep battles fast paced and fun. KH1's battle system was very standard and boring. But not this gamplay. It reminds me of Final fantasy X-2's gameplay.

Cons:

1. Graphics. I don't know, the whole worlds feel VERY flat to me. Everything is colorful, but I would like to see things more...detailed? Final fantasy is very detailed. Everything is flat if that makes since. I just did not care for that.

2. Level of hardness. Very easy game. Beginner is no challenge..ehich made me mad as this is the level I first choose to play as. Then the Normal setting. Which by the way is EASY also!! I won it in no time. They really should improve the hardness since the game is no challenge.

Overall, the game is great. Square Enix needs to improve some things, and the game could be perfect.

Kingdom hearts 3 is not yet confirmed, but it looks like a go. It should come out on the PS3. Maybe 2011?

I love the first Kingdom Hearts and this one was just as good. The gameplay was just as, if not more, fun than the original with the incredible combos and Drive forms. One of my favorite additions was that you could skip through the cutscenes. This made it a lot less frustrating when you died and had to play a boss over... and over... and over. Another great feature is the reaction command. It made you feel like you were controlling the cutscenes. The music is not quite as great as it was in the original Kingdom Hearts, but still amazing. The graphics are gorgeous and makes you feel like the characters are really alive (very rarely in this game to you see a 2-D mouth on a 3-D character). It's short on the first time through, but if you attempt to complete everything it clocks in at over 60 hours. I really enjoyed this game and would definitely recommend it!

First of all, let me start off that I am 13.

I've waited 3 years for KH2 to come out since I've beat the first one. And let me say I am very pleased, but it wasn't that much rewarding for the wait. First off, the plot has definately grown up from the origninal KH, and the story has become much deeper. The battle system is better, but much much easier, which I was disappointed with.

Although the sotryline was deeper, the game was much much eaiser, and you have more help in this game. For example, it took me 2 years (because I gave up a couple of times then started over again) to beat the first Kingdom Hearts WITH help from the stradegy guide. On the other hand, it took me a week, yes a week, to beat Kingdom Hearts 2 with only help for 2 boss fights from its stradegy guide.

Although the first KH is much better, KH2 is awesome in its new ways, by answering questions from KH, and continuing the storyline to what I think will be one of the greatest video games ever created!!!

Can't Compare to the Original

Let me begin by saying that the first KH is the single best video game I have ever played. It had great graphics, great story, great sound, and lots of fun.

This, however, does not live up to it.

KHII is a fun game, though. It has excellent graphics and phenomenal music (as usual). But the story is slightly confusing, and full of plot holes. Some other reviews say that you have to have played Chain of Memories to understand KHII. Well, I didn't, and maybe that's why I was a little confused. (I got the plot after a while).

The game opens right with an excellent song by Utada Hikaru (it's even better than "Simple and Clean" from the first game). Then, we are introduced to a new character, Roxas, who is voiced by Jesse McCartney. I'm serious. It starts off slow with Roxas, but then you finally get to be Sora, and the game is really off.

One problem I had with KHII was the cutscenes. The ones from the first games were concise and to the point. These just meander on and on, and once they're finally over, you get to walk one step forward, only to be interrupted by another cutscene. Good thing you can skip scenes in this game (I recommend not doing so the first time you play the game).

Another problem: the villains. Organization XIII members aside, they are the most annoying part of the game, especially Pete. And Maleficent. And Jafar. Oh, and Ursula (you get it). All they do is talk incessantly, and once you finally get the chance to battle them, they're wiped out in minutes.

Finally, the Disney subplots. I have nothing against Disney; in fact, I really enjoy a lot of their movies. But in KHII, all it does is interfere. So Mulan joined the army, so Ariel wants to see the human world, so Aladdin has to beat Jafar again. I fail to see why I should care, much less why Sora and the gang should. If he's really that intent on looking for Riku and Kairi, he wouldn't take these pit stops. I was hoping for less Disney, and more anime/FF.

Now the pros. First off, Gummi Traveling is much improved. Although it's a bit style-over-substance this time 'round, it is cool, and fun.

Second, the graphics are excellent, probably even better than the first game. You gotta love the opening scene, especially.

Third, battling. This is an improvement over the first game, but not by as much as some other reviews indicate. You can merge with Donald or Goofy to create a cool fighting form, and you can use reaction commands and cool combos, but that's about all that's new.

MY FINAL SCORES:

Graphics: 5/5

Music: 5/5

Story 3.5/5

Fun: 3/5

Overall: 4/5

CONCLUSION: Decent game, but it can't live up to its predecessor.

It was no way near up to the first, but a nice continuation.

The second game, I have to say, was pretty dissapointing. I've never much liked sequel games- they never measure up to the first, and their so different. Kingdom Hearts I was amazing. The story unravelled beautifully, the princess idea was amazing, the villains were well-chosen. Kingdom Hearts II, was good, but there was so much missing to it.

At the start of the game, there are so many money-making stations that you have to do, Sora looks so much different, and the characters have all have personality-changes. Jesse Mcartney (I am not a fan of him) has also joined the game as a character called Roxas.

The game starts off in a quiet, pointless world called Twilight Town. I personally found Halloween Town in Kingdom Hearts I pointless and also Neverland- but Twilight Town was just boring! Sora and company are joined by new cast including the king (who I happened to not want)

Sora travels to new worlds that have not been seen before in Kingdom Hearts I- Mulan and old words- Atlantica. You get to play as other characters- including Roxas, which is also NOT fun. The story went quickly by and all the people that you had KILLED in Kingdom Hearts I have come back to life- Malificent, Ursula, Jafar, Oogie Boogie, Captain Hook, Hades- all from Disney movies.

There is a new fresh enemy- a mummy-wrapped ruler of no origin what-so-ever. The final battles I have to admit where very exciting, and the story full-filling and strong. The game however is weaker than the previous game in this series. Only play this is if you must or really, really, really want to.

Jeez...

Kingdom Hearts was great; a lot of fun; awesome story; fun to play; this game is none of these.

KH2 ties in the story from the original, and the Gameboy Advanced version, Chain of Memories. I played Chain of Memories, but didn't beat it, so the story is extremely confusing to me in this game. All I know is that Sora/Roxas keeps going in and out of what I call "comas" and they make no sense; they are just flashbacks to Kingdom Hearts. This story line is whacked and annoying. The game also starts off EXTREMELY slow for about the first 3 hours or so.

Graphics: 8/10. The graphics are OKAY... people say they look A LOT better than the original, but they don't. If you ask me, there is a very slight texture difference on characters and whatnot, other than that, there is really no difference at all.

Sound: 8/10. Yeah... some licensed Disney songs are in this game, of course, but there are also some annoying made tunes for this game that are extremely annoying and pointless... the game would have been better off without it.

Control: 7.5/10. X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X Dead for the most part. The guys die just by pretty much smashing down X... there is really not too much too it if you want to be a "Warrior"... god this game is so repetetive.'

Fun: 7.5/10. This game fails more than it does succeeds, and it did not meet the level of hype it recieved. This is a so-so game that in no way can ever compare to the original. Sure it's a good play with great characters and fun levels, but the repetitiousness (is that a word?) of this game is ridiculous, and you will do a LOT of backtracking. It's also not very fun seeing videos of them sitting down and talking about nothing. ( Them being "Roxas" and his buddies in the begining of the game ) They talk about CRAP and just munch on random blue popsicles all the time. Did I mention they freak out when the beach is mentioned? "It's summer and we haven't been to the beach yet!" ...Oh yay... "LET'S GET SOME PRETZELS!!" And that's not the only time they get excited by pretzels... anyways, like I said, this is a game that people should play, but it's not as good as people say it is on this website. Trust me. I know what I'm saying. I'm cool like that.

7.7/10.

FIRST ONE WAS BETTER!!! TOO EASY

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 4 / 13

Author: Amazon User

PROS: Some of the Bosses are harder
The Sommons are Cooler
Sora can do alot more better moves which makes it fun
New worlds were ok

CONS: The Story line sucked
Short
No Puzzles like the first one
There are "Subtitles" at the top of the screen that tells you what to do and where to go which makes it way too easy

OVERALL: Fighting was funner, but the game was too EASY. Maybe they made it easier so younger kids could play. Even in difficult mode the game tells you what to do and where to go. Kind of Stupid I think. No Challenge at all. And after you visit the worlds once you visit them one more time, but they are so easy.
Didn't really like this game. If it wasn't for the cool moves and sommons Sora does, I wouldn't like this game at all.

THIS IS NOT A GAME TO PLAY OVER AND OVER AGAIN. RENT IT, BEAT IT, THEN BRING IT BACK. TRUST ME, THE GAME IS SO SHORT AND EASY. I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE NEED FOR THE HUGE STRATEGY GUIDE???
