READ THIS REVIEW BEFORE BUYING!!!!

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 5 / 40

Author: Amazon User

The reason i wanted you to read this review before buying is because::

Now, the plot of the game is magnificent! very well thought out!! but a bunch of major flaws that keep my stars coming down.

Clips/Synomatics::: Ok, there are WAY TOO MANY OF THESE THINGS IN THIS GAME! after ever fight, every time you enter a new room, EVERYWHERE! i got sooooo annoyed watching 3 minute synomatics after every little part of this game!

Malifecent::: HOW THE HECK DID THIS LITTLE WITCH GET BACK IN THE SEQUAL??? ok, i know, but it's really stupid how they bring her back. She randomly gets brought back to life.

Too Easy::: THIS GAME IS TOO EASY! I COULD HAVE DIED! i mean, when you need to battle heartless or nobodies, the info screen says "Defeat all the heartless/nobodies to move on" I MEAN DUH? this game feels like it was made for babies!

Expert/HARD mode::: EVEN FOR THIS MODE, IT'S STILL EASY AS PIE! There is BARELY a difference in stregnth of the enemies compared to Easy, and Normal Mode!!

Worlds::: They have some new ones, some old ones, but they all suck. Alantica is all a musical number! and you can't beat it until you're like at the end of the game because it blocks you out saying "You need Thundaga to go on" or "you need to learn Cura to go on" Now that's STUPID! needing random things to complete a world! also, the new ones are from cool Disney movies, but Kingdom Hearts 2 makes them all bad. I mean, Hallow Bastion is now a CITY? where was that in the first game? and Hallow Bastion gets a new name?? that's crazy!!
also, you need to go back to every single world again even after you beat it once!! besides Alantica THANK GOD!

Bosses::: ok, now here is a subject! Bosses, at random times, are too easy, ar too hard. like, in The Pride Lands ((Lion King)) the first boss is scar, easy right, yep! but the second boss is some random plant/earth dude that is almost impossable to beat on the first try. also, when you go to Beasts Castle ((Beauty and the Beast)) the second time, the last boss in that world is soooo hard, even King Mickey helps you out. SEPHIROTH IS IMPOSSABLE! i beat Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts one easy with the Ultima Weapn, but in this game, he is like 100 Times Harder!

Please continue reading because i have some good things to say too!!

Gummi Ship::: It's Dumb. You don't go to worlds through a path way in space, you unlock a keyhole and go through a hard world and defeat as many heartless ships as you can.and once you unlock a keyhole to another world, you can just sorta fly over to the world ((you'd need the game to understand)) also, i might add that the gummi creator menu is messed up and confusing.

Begining::: I thought it was confusing and dumb, because you don't start out as Sora, but actually Roxas. and yes, he has a small, but big part in this game.

Plot::: There is not much that i can say without giving anything away, but all i can tell you is that i liked the plot a lot.

The Pros ((finally))::: The Controls are pretty much the same, except a bit more complex, and their is a reaction command ((Triangle)) Which i HATE, but it might be usefull for other people.

All In All, i actually recomend you buy this game ((suprisingly)), only because i want people to know what happens to sora and friends, and i want people to know how bad this game is.

The only thing i liked about this game was the music, and Winnie the Pooh World!

I only think i hated this game so much because i expected too much, if you don't expect a ton from this game, you might actually like it?? i don't know, just try it out.

not worth it

Kingdom of hearts 2 does not stand up to the quality of Kingdom of hearts 1. The graphics are less detailed, and the cut scenes are choppy and unnecessarily long. Thank goodness one can opt out of playing the cut scenes. Invisable walls abound everywere which was not a main problem in the first game. The game is also less open than the first one -- meaning that in the first one you had more choice of what you wanted to do and in what order. The music is all disney -- other characters game music is nonexistant. The uniqueness of this game is gone -- it is all disney. The fights are all button pushing and switching from the item menu is awkward. Most times you win and don't know how you did it.

If your just looking to fill time then I'd play this game. But I'd recommend renting or waiting for a discounted price. Poorly done game all round.

TOO BORING!

I could play Kingdom Hearts I, over and over but, Kindom Hearts II is too boring! There is too much talking and not enough action. I am too disappointed in this game because of the high standard that Kingdom Hearts I set.

Snore . . . zzzzzz

Based on the reviews of this game I thought I might enjoy it. I was wrong. Let me say this - I didn't play the first one, so maybe that had something to do with it, BUT . . . what is SO exciting about watching cut scene after cut scene with non-existant gameplay in between. I will admit that I didn't get very far into it because I WAS BORED. I do see the appeal with the characters, but I wouldn't even call this "little gem" a game. I'd actually like to PLAY the game rather than watch poorly written, drawn out dialougue. I was seriously disappointed with my purchase of this game - don't believe the hype. Might be good for "beginner" gamers - like age 5 or 6.

Boring and Confusing.

I found this game just god-awful. Interminable loading. Boring story. The first boss battle was bloody confusing. I played it once and will probably never touch it again. I guess you have to be a little kid who's into this type of game to enjoy it.

Entertaining for kids under 10 only--sadly lame

I had just finished playing KH ast week and was so happy that there was a KH II, but I was completely appalled by how horribly lame and ugly this game is.

Nearly all the fun stuff in the first KH is gone.

--treasure chests litter the ground like birthday gifts, there's no challenge to get to them
--nice graphics, only too bad most of the beautiful background is just that-background, places where the character can't go. The designers might as well have drawn nothing outside the programmed path.
--horribly simplified and dumbed down-when wanting to explore an area away from the main task, as you could in the first KH, KH II comes up with a prompt telling you what the primary task is, locking out the other areas.
--Sora's fun abilities are locked into the Drive characters--so abilities like high jump have to have the Drive character enabled to use, and then only for a limited time. (Not that it matters--there are no longer any challenging areas to get to for treasure chests.)
--Boss battles aren't challenging and are too heavily prompted. I played the game at medium mode, not having to repeat even one boss battle, they were that easy.
--Moving from world to world via gummi ship, you are forced to play a boring rocket-ship shooter sequence to open the next world, but the graphics shift seemingly at random and you have no control over which way the camera is facing. If I wanted to play Space Invaders I would have bought Space Invaders.
--Too many cutscenes, that cut game play off, unexplored areas get locked out after some of them, so if you venture into the cutscene area first, you can't get back to other areas. I think there was more cutscene time than play time.
--Information tags are attached to items for seemingly no good reason. Items that never come up in the game play have green triangle information lights appear over them and meaningless factoids appear related to these. Why?
--The plotting/writing was horrible! Visiting Hollow Bastion, Leon reveals an army of heartless threatening the city. Sora promises that he, Donald and Goofy will help protect the city. Several minutes later, they are leaving the city, just because the found the path to the next world? Huh? What happened to protecting the city?

If you are under 10 and want an easy, pretty game--you'll enjoy this. Anyone who likes a challenge and a well-written, well-thought out game will not.

Designed for children under 12....

I purchased this game due to the fact that the wife and I played Kingdom Hearts I and thought it was extremely fun. We had been anxiously awaiting the release of Kingdom Hearts II for nearly 2 years, and every time the release date was pushed back we would literally get frustrated.

Well, it finally came out and we got it and have just beat the game in "proud" mode and must say, that it was ridiculously easy. It felt more like an interactive movie where you had to do light tasks to progress it, since a majority of the game is cut scenes. We didn't even worry about beating any of the bosses as they were so easy. Not to mention we were in shock at how fast we were beating the worlds!

One of the most ridiculous levels is Atlantica, as the entire level consists of you having to hit the "X" button, to sing along songs, at the exact right moment. Even the main boss (Ursela) was defeated by hitting the button at the right moment as she was singing a song! There aren't ANY heartless in that entire world!

Another thing that is horrible, was the fact that in the Pride Lands/Lion King world you had to run around has a BABY lion, when you probably near the same age as Simba! You actually, I kid you not, fight with a keyblade in your mouth, and the moves are awkward at best!

Another thing that was ridiculous in the game was during certain bosses you had to complete 'tasks' such as "kill 10 enemies in 10 seconds" which wasn't hard, just aggrevating. So you would go through the entire battle, which is more tedious then anything, as its easy, without even getting hit, and would die because you didn't kill 10 enemies in 10 seconds.

Honestly the game was very boring overall and we only kept playing so that we could beat the game. Unfortunately there is probably only 20 hours of game play. The longest being the several hour tutorial at the beginning which was hard enough to get through, only because it was so boring. Sadly they FORCE you to do the tutorial.

In all, if I knew then what I know now, I would wait until this game came out as a Player's choice and nab it for $19.99 instead of the $49.99+tax we paid for it.

So my advice is to wait or to buy it used.

Not much to do...

Though it's a very pretty game, Kingdom Hearts II fell pretty flat for me in comparison to the first title.

Pros: graphics were fun to look at; though the combat was mostly button mashing, there were improved aspects to it, like the special "drive" forms, where Sora can use two keyblades, and limits, which provided you with a short period of being able to use a special ability or move. Call me a fan-girl, but I also really enjoyed being able to race light cycles in Tron's world.

Cons: You're railroaded through short, boring worlds on what seems more like one long movie than a game. The maps are miniscule, there's no exploring, no hidden ledges with goodies... nothing like that at ALL. I was frustrated that "high jump" was not available until I'd earned it through using one of the special forms. I kept telling myself that maybe once I had high jump, I'd be able to go back and reach some places I couldn't before. Maybe I'd find something interesting. But nooo... I'm not sure what the point of being able to jump any higher was. What a waste of time. The game provides you with plenty of places that LOOK as though they should be reachable, but even when you should be able to get there, you just slide back down to the ground because the programmers didn't bother to make the surface usable.

This seems to be a theme in most of the game: enjoy looking at the pretty environments, but don't expect to interact with them in any way.

The final two major complaints I have are the series of interminable final boss battles, and the existence of Atlantica.

Atlantica: does this make any sense? "The universe is in peril! Only we can save it! Oh wait--you want me to waste time performing in your ridiculous undersea musical extravaganza instead of saving innocent people and defeating evil? Sure!" There is not anything to defeat in Atlantica. I do not know why it was included in the game. I loathed it in the first one, and I gnashed my teeth even more in the second because I had NO REASON TO BE THERE.

Good games force you to work, and the fun is in the rewards they dole out. Challenge, then reward.

I didn't feel rewarded in Kingdom Hearts II. I just felt kind of gypped.

ONE OF THE BEST GAMES I'VE PLAYED!!!

Recently, I bought this game (last one in stock...) and I LOVE it!!! As a major fan of Action/Adventure genres and Final Fantasy, I grabbed it immediately when it landed on store shelves. Although the hefty $50 price tag (OMG, i know) set me back, it was a great addition to my collection.

As there are other reviews, I won't go into detail about the storyline... but I will post what I disliked and liked about it. First off, the battle system has no boundaries or turns, so you can slash away at enemies without having to wait. The worlds, varying from Mulan to Pirates of the Caribbean, always have you wondering what will happen next, therefore keeping the game alive. Also, collecting the various keyblades is cool, except for some (like Fenrir, which you obtain only after beating SEPHIROTH, who I was sluaghtered by...)

But, like other games, it has a few flaws. Take the Final boss battle for example (which took me AT LEAST 45 minutes to complete, even on Beginner mode). You only get to fight with one other character (I don't want to spoil it for others, so I won't mention his name :D ). After you beat the boss, you're only reward is a cutscene and credits. Not being able to save, it seems as though you did all that for nothing.....

Although some parts are frustating, and most of the dialogue is confusing (Hearts, hearts, hearts...), it is a wonderful game, and I hope you enjoy it!!! (if you buy it :D )

Very Disappointing

I'm not gonna say this is one of the worst games I've ever played, but it is the most disappointing game I've ever played. I am a huge fan of the original Kingdom Hearts. One of my favorite games of all time. I was stoked when I found out they were putting out a sequel. I ordered my copy months in advance and waited patiently until it was delivered.

That being said, this game has lost touch with what made the original so good. First, the game is very, very linear. In the original, the worlds were expansive and open requiring a player to explore, kinda like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. You could spend hours exploring every nook and cranny. In Kingdom Hearts 2, you run down narrow paths from checkpoint to checkpoint, fighting scripted battles at each stop. There's no exploring or thought required. You can't get lost because there's nowhere else to go. You'll completely explore and beat each world in under an hour.

Secondly, they've lost the feel of the original. Kingdom Hearts 1 had a very Disney feel to it. This game (aside from the Disney characters of course) looks a lot more like Final Fantasy than the first game, especially monsters you fight throughout the game. That was part of the charm of the first game; it had a distinctly Disney in look and feel.

The battle sequences are very different from the original. They have a much more anime look to them. There's a constant prompt to hit the triangle button to unleash a weird combo move. You'll think you're watching a futurist anime kung-fu movie. They added numerous gauges that you have to monitor, not just HP and MP. They have this one gauge that monitors your party's morale. If your party becomes demoralized during a battle, you die. Even if your have all your health. It's lame.

This game has a lot more animated sequences than the first. You'll spend most of your time watching cartoons instead of playing the game. The first had a lot of animation too, but not nearly this much. I'd say this one has 5 times the animated sequences per world. I think I'm even being generous saying that, it's probably more.

The story line is hard to follow, but it was hard to follow in the original too. It just shoots off into so many directions.

Like I said at the beginning, very disappointing. It's a completely different game. Aside from the main characters and story line, there is very little in common with the original. I hope if they do put out a third edition, they go back to what made the first one so special.
