WOW! (the thrill is back)

I almost didn't buy this because I thought anything after GTA III would just be a disapointment. I've put about 20 hours in on this game, and all the thrill of discovering more and more stuff is back! I am amazed with the details and fresh ideas Rockstar have thrown in.
I CAN'T believe the size of Vice City and all the weapons.
I didn't think I'd ever say this, but Vice City is a BIG improvement over GTA III.

Great Game, Worth the money

I really liked this game from the biggining were you walked out of a building and saw and world with great graphics. You get into a car with Michael Jackson's Beat It playing in the car radio, and hold down x zooming down the street and 80 mph. After this, the game just gets more exciting. The way you play this game is simuliar to GTA3, you must complete a series of missions to advance to more series of missions as the storyline progresses. The difference from GTA3 is that the missions are a bit longer. The storyline is that some lawyer loses hi drugs and Tommy (main character) is going to help and get them back. There are tons of vechicles you can ride, cars, motorcycles, helicopters and boats. So overall, this is a great game, worth getting.

WHOA. My jaw is dropped in awe...I applaud Rockstar Games for creating a superior to the game I once thought to be the most genius creation in the world. I didn't know just how wrong I was. This game blows GTA3 out of the water. Twice the weapons. Three times the vehicles. Vice City, Miami. You can go in buildings, thwart the cops in new ways, complete new missions, hear 9+ hours of radio, buy property, and do what it takes to make Vice City yours. I got this the day it came out and haven't regretted it for a second since. All PS2 owners NEED this game. All non-PS2 owners need to get a PS2 and buy this game.

Read this if you have any doubts

IF you are reading this than you must still have doubts about this game. Maybe it's the idea of the 80's style music or theme, maybe it's the idea that it amy get boring after a while, there could be millions of reasons. Well let me list the pros and cons for this game.
Pros:
1) The story is rich and detailed, with many plot twists and for once good voice acting.
2) Nice cars.
3) Variety in missions make the game fun at all times.
4) Very good music that never gets dull.

Cons:
1) THe cars tip a little to easily (even with improved driving on)
2) Laslo, Tony, and Fernando from Grand Theft Auto 3 are back and as annoying as ever.

SO if this in some ways doesn't help out to much than just go out and rent it (if you can) because this is another nomminee for best game of the year (the only other two thus far are Kingdom HEarts and Timesplitters 2).

Great, Great, Grownup fun

Last year, GTA 3 took not only the whole world by storm. Now Rockstar has taken the same basic gameplay and amped it up to another level.

Pros:

1) Almost unlimited access to the entire gaming world. GTA 3 gave you access to the whole outstide world of Liberty City. GTA VC now gives you hotels, malls, mansions and stores to explore (plunder).
2) Improved AI: No longer can you blow a cop's head off, and his partner will keep walking. Now the forces of law will unleash a well organized attack on your slimeball rear. Crank your wanted level up, and cruisers will run you into roadblocks, helicopters will flush you into a SWAT team ambush...
3)The missions are substantially more varied. Rockstar has put a ton of variety here. You will naturally be racing and shooting, but now you will fly a radio contoleld helicopter on a demolition mission, race other boats to a drug deal; then fend off their assault, lure cops into a trap. And that is just in the week I have been playing.
4) The music is first rate, Rockstar dropped a few quarters to include a good sampling of 80's hits. In addition there are the hilarious commericals and talk shows.
5) Motorcycles and helicopters are now drivable. Jacking a motorcycle allows you to shoot straight ahead, and to execute stunts not possible in a 4-wheeler.
6) Luis Guzman's voiceover as the drug lord Diaz had me falling over with laughter.

Cons:

1) The gameplay is similar to GTA 3.
2) There is not that much to interact with inside buildings, it is pretty much shoot and loot.
3) Lastly, this goes with out saying, but this game is not for kiddies. I am a new father, and I will not allow my child in the room with me when I am playing. This should not be played unless you are mature enough to understand the really bad things you do in the game.

Awesome Fun - for adults

This game is awesome if you are an adult who can distinguish between what is acceptable for a video game and what is acceptable in real life. In the game you play Tom Vercciti who had some of his drugs stolen and now he is trying to get it back. In the mean time he has to run several missions to get information and gain money. To get from place to place you have to steal cars and the mission reguire some gruesome deeds. But it is all in fun.

You can steal a bus and roll around town with it or drive a taxi, even an ambulance. You can steal a police car, but he whole force will be on you. Crashing into you, doing anything to bust you. Even if there were no point to the game, driving fast cars recklessly through the city or beating up people for their money is pretty fun. However, the missions offer a challenge and keep the game interesting sincce they aren't exactly a piece of cake.

Anyway, this is just a fun game filled with the guilty pleasures of life, as long as you don't take it too seriously. Enjoy!

virtual reality at a new level

very nice game... very realistic, beautiful graphics, adult dialogue and themes (makes it fun for us adult players). The use of real actors for the main characters raises this game to a whole new level. It's excellently done (great acting and real drama)! Not to mention it is exciting to be able to fantasize about being a hoodlum, without having to actually be one. The missions and side "jobs" are really fun and tie into the whole theme seamlessly. There is something for everyone, with all kinds of levels of play and difficulty. And the premise of being able to explore at will in the city, just as one would in a real live setting, is delightful for us explorative types. This game is a must have, if any game is. Definitely a game for ADULTS ONLY, however. Even just walking aimlessly around the city and randomly bumbing into "people" will generate "mature" dialogue. So be warned, all those with little kiddies. For adults it is pure fantasy at its best (or worst... hehe... depending on which way you look at it).

Best Game for PS2?

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 0 / 0

I would rate this game my second favorite game for PS2 (Behind the notorious Gran Turismo series).

Compared to the previous GT, this game is definitely better. However, although I highly recommend it, there were a couple things that I thought could still use a bit of improving.

First, some of the levels were too easy. I don't usually play video games all the way through, but this one was a bit easier - and I passed every mission without too much headache.

The islands didn't seem quite as bit as I would have expected, and I like having three islands more than just two.

What I did really like about the game, was the addition of helicopters, motorcycles, scooters, new cars, and all the other good stuff including the graphics, which I think are quite a bit better.

Overall, I would strongly suggest this game.

Just as good as GTA3....maybe even better.

I'm a casual gamer but I've found this game just as fun, if not funner than GTA3. The music is great, the graphics are great, the gameplay is still great. It's bigger and better than GTA3 in my opinion. There is nothing better than racing down the street on a streetbike, poppin' wheelies, while listening to Michael Jackson's "Wanne be Startin' Something". Get this game, you'll love it......but only if your 18 or older.

Vice City will not let you down

The main character finally speaks. This small change makes a big difference in how you feel interacting with the game. Not that it was a problem before, but there's less a "spectator" feeling to playing the game.

Celebrities are doing the voices... and it's fun to try and pick them out...Blood fountains from necks when you shoot people's heads off, for instance.

Finally, the music alone is worth buying the game. Even if you don't enjoy retro 80's tunes NOW, as a general rule, if you liked them back then you can't help but smile when you hear some of the more obscure favorites. You can even change the "car radio station" the game is playing if you don't like what you're hearing.

The bottom line is that the game is...
* absolutely great with new changes such as main character involvement
* spectacular with regard to violence that amuses, rather than sickens
* is a really tough judgement call with regard to kids if you haven't seen the game in person being played
* a true joy for others in the same room because the music is really fun and never grating on the nerves
