Vice City is the best game ever, god like freedom to find a chainsaw and run the street hacking hookers to death. Buying a ice cream factory and owning mansions is the best. I hate how people pre judge game like family groups and that idiot Joe Liebermen. Very fun and sadistic.

Grand Theft Auto sucks. These words have never crossed any serious gamers' lips and there's a good reason why. The GTA series are just simply FUN and addictive, letting you do what no other game does. It lets you handle a variety of missions in the way YOU want to. It's not linear like most games tend to be, but that's disappearing quickly. Now on with the show. First off, the graphics. Now the GTA series aren't noted for their graphics, but the game is pretty looking, even if the character models still need work. Still a lot of pop-up and technical issues, but that's expected almost of these games. Vice City has, without a doubt, the best soundtrack to date in the series. Soundtrack consists of classic '80s music such as rock, pop, rap, and talk radio. I didn't care much for GTA III's soundtrack other than the opera and talk station. But Vice City has music for everyone with the likes of Twisted Sister, David Lee Roth, Judas Priest, Michael Jackson, A Flock of Seagulls and much, much more. Plus, there are now 2 talk stations. One is K-Chat, a talk show with loopy guests and VCPR, a political debate show, which is my favorite, because Maurice Chavez and his guests are hilarious(especially the nudist and redneck wanting to seperate Florida from the North). Also, celebrity voice overs by the likes of Ray Liotta, Dennis Hopper, Burt Reynolds, Danny Trejo, Tom Sizemore, and everyone's favorite adult film star, Jenna Jameson. Controls are identical except now you can crouch and shoot. A bigger selection of melee weapons like katanas, cleavers, knives, brass knuckles, chainsaws, screwdrivers and guns like M-16s, AK-47s, MP5s, and the list goes on. The hand to hand combat has been improved, but still could use a little work. Now like the previous GTA, the replay value is off the charts. You can beat the main game but still have loads to do. Jobs to complete and packages to find, and trust me, you'll want to find all the packages(it's really cool). Still, you can waste countless hours just killing and blowing up stuff for hours. However the game is far from perfect. The character models could look better rather than having flipper hands. The targeting system tends to lock on to dead bodies rather than live targets. But I'm just nitpicking. This is an experiance no PS2 or Xbox owner should miss. In fact the only thing that is better is San Andreas(see my take on it), but that's besides the point. Highly recommended. 5 out of 5.

This game is awesome. For years I was turned off by the Grand Theft Auto concept. A game about breaking the law? Come on. As an attorney, I was a bit of a prude about such things. Fast forward a couple of years to 2002. I finally bought my Playstation 2 and for months I'd been seeing this commercial for game chock-full of 80's music and a fake Miami, Florida. Needless to say this caught my attention. How can I not want to check out a video game that fairly faithfully models the great city I grew up in, as well as wallow in the music of my youth.
The gameplay is immediately addictive. Hop in the car, cruise Beachfront Ave. with some tunes. Pick up chicks, make money, beat up cops for weapons, get your feet wet with some chores, and get on your way to making your criminal empire. The game evokes the great spirits of many mob and crime shows - Miami Vice (to top it all off, Phillip Michael Thomas is your shady sidekick), Goodfellas (one of the true treats of the game - Ray Liotta plays the voice of your character, Tommy), Scarface, to name a few.
The nearly linear storyline makes repeat gameplay truly enjoyable only if you want to sadistically put yourself through some of the hardest missions again - for example I never want to see the city dump again. You can't get a 100% rating unless you do everything, including some of the silly, purely fun, but wholely difficult side tasks like racing remote control cars. So the game does become frustating on those levels.
However, one of the great treats is hunting for your hidden packages and getting your prize. Along the way you'll also find cool weapons and the rampages. Rampages are good, wholesome, senseless killing, often with quite cool weapons. My favorites were always the sniper missions with the laser scope. Another great feature which you can work on when you're bored of the missions and just looking for senseless violence, is to see just how much mischief you can cause before the cops or army kill or capture you and work on that criminal rating and publicity level.
A note about the soundtrack. The 80s music they picked is awesome. Everything from the heavy metal to the hispanic music is not to be missed. Make sure to check out the talk show channels.
I've glorified a lot of the violence. This game has gotten a terribly bad rap. I'll admit, that as a parent I would not let my kids play this. But that's a parental judgment call and not a circumstance which should demonise either the players of this game of Rockstar Games.
'Nuff said though. Go get this great game and make sure to get yourself some cool weapons and a helicopter ASAP. Mayhem, money, women, and your criminal empire await you.

this is by far the best game i have ever played. This game is a must buy!!!in this game there is so much to to do. the city is so big and u can do just about everything u can do in a real city. this game is GTA 3 with everything improved. if u thought that nothing could beat GTA 3 then u were wrong. They have come out with the perfect sequel, with more weapons, more cars and a bigger location than the # 3. They have improved on the graphics so everything looks realistic. Although very violent this game is a must have. so if u have a PS2 then i highly recoomend this game. In this game there are fun missions and u can buy property. You can even buy your ow mansion. You can fly helicopters and 1 of them even has a gun on it. this game is really fun so go out and buy it. its is worth all the money u spend on it! If u rarely buy games and u have enough money to buy one then get this one it is a blast and u wont be able to put it down and u wont get bored so it wil last u forever. Have fun!!!!

(refers to XBox version, despite being under the PS2 heading)
I love GTA: Vice City. The difficulty is perfect, the graphics are amazing, the stroryline is great, the cars are great, the music sucks (no one's really listening tough!!!) and all around the game kicks major ass.
You play a criminal sent to Vice City by his old boss as he returns from another mission. You work with your lawyer who gives you missions to accomplish and leads you to other areas in the game, as you recieve cash and complete more missions.
You are accompanied by your partner, the humble but untrusting Lance. As you meet new characters, you get more missions you must accomplish and the story evolves into a twisty-turny action-packed ride.
The soundtrack, though cheesy, makes a great way of making you feel you are in the 1980s, with the most memorable in rock, rap, new wave, and pop from the area. There is also an option to import your own soundtracks into the game. However, in my opinion, the best part of the radio option is the hilarious talk radio and advertisement parodies.
The weapons selection is amazing. It veries from guns to other objects, like the screwdriver and the ever-popular chainsaw. The vehicle options are great, letting you drive everything from cop cars to ice cream trucks. With these vehicles you can acomplish mini-missions to get more money or recieve different options in the game.
With endly variety, GTA: Vice City is a perfect game for the fans of every game genre. Definately a classic!

i love all the new people jumping on the bandwagon now all of a sudden saying the greatest game series of all time is lame. Grand Theft Auto invented something no one ever accomplished... freedom. That is why it's sold over 20 million copies, cuz some of us are sick of looking for the 50 pieces of some stupid key just to move on to the next part of a lame game that no one cares about. Of course Vice City doesn't let you do everything, yet.... this is just the beginning. San Andreas will also be 5 stars. Because of everything they have done. Soundtracks to a video game? I don't even need to expand on that. Think of the music in San Andreas... Rockstar games is on a roll.
Haters begone.. keep playing inside your little box, come out and breathe some real air in a real Vice city when you are ready to live.
Alright, but not as good as it's hyped to be.

I had been playing a lot of GTA3 and it was easily one of my favorite games of all time. I nearly became addicted. Then I heard about Vice City and all the new features it was going to include, and was hyped enough to pre-order it a month before its release (which I almost never do). I bought it and started playing it, but as I played on it I realized there wasn't much new about it. It felt like another GTA3 clone...one that wasn't as interesting. In GTA3, all the gangs, vehicles and environments were much more distinguished from another, Vice City felt like too much of a jumbled mess in that sense. Also, in GTA3, there was the motivation of doing missions to unlock new islands, in GTA3, that motivation wasn't really there because within few sets of missions they're already unlocked. Also, gangs and gang warfare play a larger role in GTA3 then they do in Vice. This, along with other things make Vice not the same thriller that GTA3 was.

never in playstation history has there been a game as infamous as GTA. this game spawned hordes of worried mommys and daddys cause little jimmy won't stop shotting the cops and dealing drugs on his new fangled videogame playin doodad. while i strongly advise against kids still in grade school having this game, i am in love with it. Im your average high school teen who just cant get enough. this game has also gotten a lot of heat for people causing violence. HELLO! the game is an inanimate object, have you ever thrown good ol' doom into your SNES and found the urge to shoot someone in the head with a shotgun??? i didnt think so, but ti got the same heat in its time. long story short dont by into the media telling you this game is wrong, cause not only does it have an amazing, hilarious storyline, it has great guest cameos from the 80s such as ray liotta. it has a true to the time era soundtrack that anyone, no matter who uncoordinated, could find a foot tapping moment to, and finally great gameplay. the kinks in the gunfighting that i will admit riddled GTA 3 have been worked out, and now you have full access to helicopters, bikes, and much more time in boats. believe me this is the greatest entertainment deal on the market.
Great

when i first got this game I was like whoa this grand theft auto vice city is way better than GTAIII. I say this because the city is so big. You have so many places you can go for insane you could go to the mall and buy clothes from gash(gap) or you can just mess with the fake seceruity guards. On vice city when you do the bank job unlike GTAIII you really go in the bank and rob it, not just wait for the people to come out. This one is also better because you can go to the club if you just want to chill or once you buy the strip club you can go there and see some butts bounce up and down. So all I'm saying is that grand teft auto vice city is the best game ever. This game is on point if you like a challenge.//
