Matching The Magic

Its true, this is probably the most anticipated game of 2002 if you asked 10 gamers what the most anticipated and best game of 2002 8 out of 10 will say Grand Theft Auto Vice City. You play a guy named Tommy Vercetti who has been sent down to Vice city to establish connections for the Liberty City mafia, your boss Sonny wants you to take care of a drug deal upon your arrival but all does not go smoothly, as the dealers as well as your comrades are killed by unknown assailants. Sonny wants the drugs and money back and its your job to get them back but as the game progresses the goal of retrieving Sonnys items fades away as you begin to take over the city. During the game you will pull of jobs for local crime bosses the missions can vary from assassination to item fetching. The games voice acting is exellent as you will encounter the voices of: Ray Leotta, Philip Micheal Thomas, Dennis Hopper, and Burt Renolds just to name a few. The game has some cool features that make it well Grand Theft Auto you can steal cars, pick up hookers, shoot police or anyone on the street for that matter but expect the police to hold up a resistance as the deploy tire spikes and call in reinforcements. Tommy has a variety of weapons in the tropical gangsters paradise as the have melee weapons, handguns, shotguns, explosives, assult rifles and submachine guns as well as sniper rifles and some heavy weapons such as a flamethrower and a minigun. The graphics are beautiful but the civilians have flippers for hands. On the downside the games has some bugs the guns occasionally refuse to fire, enemies can shoot through walls and its fun to fail a mission by your mission partner get killed by falling down a ramp. One thing that drives me insane that is not a bug is how slow your character moves while holding larger weapons. Even with these bugs Vice City does not just match the magic of GTA 3 it beats it in every way possible that is why it deserves every bit of a 5 so dont hesitate to grab this one.

The last GTA I played was GTA2, and I wasn't a big fan of it. I was between consoles when GTA3 was released, but seeing all the hub-bub, I decided to pick up the new GTA:VC.

This game rocks.

I graduated from high school in 1986, and this game pays a great homage to that time period. Driving insanely fast in a Lambourghini, doing drive-bys, all while listening to Judas Priest delivers an adrenaline rush like no other game. It's kitschy in the best way.

The graphics are okay. I wish there were a bit more interactivity with the environment. I wish you didn't immediately drown whenever you end up in the water. I wish the fighting controls were more responsive (and less frustrating). But the city is huge, there are tons of things to do, and lots of places to explore. The driving controls are pretty great, too. Big lumbering vehicle sure feel large and lumbering.

Plus, I wish I were better at it, because I'm anxious to unlock the second half of the city and do all the other exciting stuff I've been only reading about (fly copters, planes, boats, etc.)

I've already lost way too much sleep playing this game. I like it more than SOCOM.

I also wish there were a 1980's-style video arcade hidden in the city, where I could play old coin-ops.

the best ever

I bought this for my boyfriend and we are constantly fighting over who gets to play. The graphics, scenrios and missions are all quite good. Very addicting. It's a great after-work stress-releiver, too. And the soundtrack is great! I like Vice City a bit better than GTA3.

A must-have for any adult gamer!!

I am a HUGE fan of Grand Theft Auto and literally got Grand Theft Auto: Vice City the day it became available. I've been playing it since the moment it got home, and it is truly a GREAT follow-up to the GTA3 blockbuster.

The premise is simple. Think Miami Vice. You're in Vice City, lots of cocaine dealers, the Italians want to get involved. You've just gotten out of prison and are sent down to get the 'family' presence known.

Your first job goes wrong and everyone is killed. Now you have to get the cash and drugs back for the family. As your reputation grows, more and more people want you to work for them.

The game is just classic. From the low-resolution intro screen to the GREAT music from Judas Priest to Michael Jackson to Bryan Adams, this is a BLAST for anyone over 25 who remembers these years. Younger players will enjoy it too but might miss all the great references!

The improvements over GTA3 are numerous. You get motorcycles now, complete with appropriate body leanings. Mopeds too! There are seaplanes, boats and helicopters. Even golf carts! You'll see some of your favorite cars from GTA3 (including the BF Injection) plus many new ones. In addition to a gun shop you also have a tool shop for those who dislike firearms.

The dialogue is just *classic*, although they went a BIT heavy with every other swear being a reference to the male sex organ. In the REAL Miami Vice, they had a bit more imagination! Still, that is probably my only complaint in a game that is incredibly rich. The graphics are improved. The radio stations are AMAZING. Yes, this is NOT for kids. But for any adult, this is an amazingly fun way to spend many, many hours!

I'm Amazed...

For one thing I am amazed by this game. That anyone could come up with such a great concept, and how the game is put together is truly incredible. I'm not going to go into a hundred scenerios of what can happen in the game, but will tell you it is probably the best video game ever produced. Rockstar Games have been known in the past for their rebel qualities and they show it in this title. The other thing that amazes me is how people... are so upset over this game. ...IT'S A VIDEO GAME!!!' ... I have a five year old son and he sometimes see's me play the game, but I don't think some things in it are appropriate for small children, so I don't let him see that take place. If you don't think your kids are ready for it. Don't let 'em play. But don't come down on innocent, hard-working adults who get off on fast cars, big gunns, and hot babes ... It's fun to get in your car and do some drive by's until the police chase you. All the things that one would never do in real life. So lighten up ..., go ... chase parked cars for fun. ... Peace.

First of all, the controls will take a while to get used to. After that, the game is so much fun. So much to see and do, you will neverget tired of this game. For those people who always wondered what it would be like to simply go out and create mayhem and destruction. This is the game to buy this year.

i picked this up on tuesday when it came out and finished the story mode by friday...and i'm still playing it.
when i first put the game in i thought "hmmm...more of the same" (which was still good), however as i continued to play the game just got better and better. the addition of the map with the zoom feature is great as it made getting to know the city quite a bit easier.the soundtrack has yet to become boring as all the music is listener friendly.
on the downside the game is a little easier than its recent predecessor (GTA3) but the diversity in the missions and the huge amount of side quests and mini-games makes up for the lack of skill needed to beat this.
i fail to see how this game can get boring... as there is so much to do, if i don't want to do a mission i hop in a helicopter and look for packages, if i get bored with that i hop into one of my "reward cars" from sunshine auto and go racing the list goes on and on. i even take a joyride sometimes, just to listen to the radio(of course an occasional drive-by just to liven things up is in order)
i wont say this game is more polished than the last because it is not. there are some missions...ie..."the driver" that are just annoying ,not the mission itself but the fact that if you fail the mission you have to reload entering the club, reload the first cutscene, reload the second cutscene, blah blah blah just to redo the mission.its ironic because everything else in the game has such incredible attention to detail..some examples being ...your character hopping into a convertible..unless the door is open. or the flames coming from the exhaust of your cuban hermes, or the hydraulic shocks of your voodoo.the list is endless...this just shows you that the developers at ROCKSTAR truly care about there product everything about this game exudes quality. it would have been easy for ROCKSTAR to "rest on it's laurels" and re-hash gta3 in a different city.(and i'm sure people would have been pleased),but they continued to raise the bar for themselves and succeeded in outdoing anything to come along previously.which creates a dilemna...where do you go from here? if you create the paragon of videogames and raise the pinnacle so high how do you outdo yourselves nexttime....i guess we'll have to see when grand theft auto 5 comes along....needless to say(but i will anyway)i will probably still be playing this and gta3 when the next game comes out.

A Simple Man's Review of GTA: VC

Most of the reviews have already told you how innovative this game is, even compared to GTA 3. I have to agree. First off, you can't find this game at most stores it flew off the shelves Tuesday. This tells you that there's something about this game that has the publics attention. What is it? Your in a living, breathing city called Vice City where you can do anything you really want to do. Feel like driving a golf cart. You can do that. Feel like flying a helicopter. You can do that too. You get the point. If your tired of mission-based games go out and buy this. If your tired of games that give you too much freedom, go out and buy this too. This game offers a very well tuned plot as well as a very freedom loving non-plot wander around the city type deal. Go out and buy this game, its fun but the M rating is there for a reason. (Just a note for some reviewers that will be left unnamed, did you know that you can copy what your writing and then paste it to a word processor and check the spelling. I just figure its kind of embarrassing when you can't spell "rollar blad" (roller blade) or "witch" (which)).

Gotta have it

There are many things about Vice City that make it more fun to play than its predecessor. First, the songs are authentic 1980's classics. When stealing my first car I was greeted to "Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson. This is one of the greatest things about this game... the real 1980's feel (music, clothes (purple suits with thin ties) and cars (corvettes, sedans and scooters (incl. motorcycles)!

Tony Viscetti, our main character actually speaks through out the game, dropping lines like, "Don't make me feel any worse about this than I already do" when stealing a car. The nice thing is that the line is not repeated over and over but replaced by different phrases and sometimes none at all.

Vice City is huge. You can even head to the beach in this game and take out lifeguards. You have the ability to purchase property as well including Casinos, Nightclubs and Apartments. Apartments can be purchased and serve as another location from which to save your game so you don't always have to head off to far away home after completeing a mission.
You can even hold up businesses now using a vast array of new weapons such as a screwdriver, police baton (taken froma cop), hammer (to beat up people or destroy vehicles, and many others).

The biggest difference is that the missions are very different and you can choose between many different bosses as opposed to the previous one or two. For example, you will act as security for a drug deal, fly "RC" helicopters into a building to ultimately detonate the place, head into the country club and raise havoc at the driving range.

All-in-all, if you own the previous version of GTA3 you should get this game. The game is a lot more fun to play and really a terrific game. A must own.

Great Game

I don't think some of these reviewers bought the correct game! How could they not see the vast improvements in the gameplay? The new targeting system is great...If you don't want to hit something everytime you shoot, all you have to do is NOT use it! They give you the option to use it if you'd like. I can't believe someone complained about that feature. LOL. The graphics ARE better. The soundtrack is great. I love the violence, love the gore, and love the bad language. What's not to love? To those who complain about this game being bad for kids...It clearly says on the label MATURE...That said, when you catch your kids with it, take it from them and then stay up all night playing it..You know you want to!
