A lot of people complain about the game being too similar to FFX, but, in fact, it really is a totally different game. There are no Aeons, and people complain about that. But, it fits into the storyline, and has been replaced with the Special Dressspheres, which are essentially aeons.
the nonlinearity of the story is really cool too. I'm only about 35% into the game, and already there have been 2 major decisions to make that I know have affected the ultimate outcome.
I would definately recommend this to people who enjoyed FFX, as there are many throwbacks and references. And for people afraid that this is just a rehashed FFX, fear not! Everything except the vocabulary and some of the environments is different about this game.
My only reservation is for people who have never played FFX...because a lot of the vocab is from the old game, it might get a little confusing. But...who hasn't played FFX?? :)
For once, a sequel that doesn't suck

It's something that happens very often in the RPG world: sequels. Chrono Trigger, Zelda, Xenogears(prequels, actually) and Star Ocean all have sequels. Final Fantasy is a different kind of sequel: no characters repeat, new worlds, new storyline and only 4 things usually repeat: Cid, moogles(or Mog), chocobos(ostrich-like birds) and Biggs and Wedge. However, to this day, no sequel has been made...until now.
Story: Takes place 2 years after Final Fantasy X. Yuna has successfully defeated Sin, a destructive force, forever; something no one has been able to do. However, that game's main character, Tidus, goes away. 2 years later, Yuna is part of the Gullwings, a sphere hunter group who roams the land looking for spheres detailing certain events in Spira(the world). She receives a sphere which looks like Tidus imprisoned and is determined to find out the truth.
Graphics: This one is on 2 fronts: world and FMV/Cutscenes. The worlds? Pretty much the same as FFX. Same layout and everything. But the FMV's? Whoa. Especially Yuna(the real Yuna, that is)'s introduction. Beautiful. It's not abundant in FMV as FFX but still a marvel to watch.
Sound/Music: The music? Sounds like the 70's. They even replaced the ever-popular Victory Fanfare with some rather boring piece. Voice acting? Even better than the first. Yuna doesn't sound dull and bored anymore and Paine is a great replacement for Lulu.
Gameplay: Say goodbye to the Sphere Grid, welcome to the Level system. Additionally, say hello to Dresspheres. Similar to Materia and the Job system, your characters can change classes, even during battle. Use a Black Mage to deal magic, then switch to a White Mage to cure. That simple. One other notable feature is added: Jumping. Yes, sometimes travelling the land, you run into places that need to be jumped over, or climbed. It's a radical change and sometimes cumbersome.
It's something I hope Squaresoft(oop, sorry...Square Enix) does now and then: provide a sequel. Who wouldn't want to see the events of Terra and the gang after VI, or how Midgar progressed in VII(there's a straight to DVD coming next year) or the continuation of Ramza and Ovelia in Tactics but this game is mainly for people who want to know if Yuna and Tidus end up together and looking for a new Final Fantasy to play until XII(12). By the way, Ashe from XII looks gorgeous!
Not so good as FFX

Final Fantasy X is one of the greats of the series. Despite its nonsense story that makes no sense when you try to put it all together - about how Auron got to Zanarkand, how Tidus ended up in Spira, and what Seymour was really after - it's a great game. This sequel, however, leaves one feeling like there are so many more things that didn't get resolved. There are so many plotholes in the story that you could sail the Highwind through it.
My biggest problem with the game's story is its lack of consistency. Many of the old characters have lost their personality in the intervening two years between the games. Some of the new ones don't have a personality. Kimarhi has lost his spine, Maechen's got Alzheimers, Isaaru is boring as butter, Brother is absolutely annoying, Clasko has given up the dream that Tidus told him to follow and completely forgotten it. There are other examples, but that's enough.
The non-linear missions are a nice touch, especially when failure of the mission affects the outcome. Wit and ideas there are in abundance.
But the plot is paper-thin. Yuna becomes a sphere hunter on the flimsiest pretense, then plays superhero of Spira, and while the citizens are attacked by fiends, she's off playing Sphere Break in Luca! Then, to reunite Spira, she sings one song at a "concert" and that's all it takes to patch things up. For good measure, she ventures onto the Farplane to check up on Nooj and Gippal. If reduced to syllogistic form, this plot wouldn't hold water.
The music, though not by Uematsu, is still pretty good. The only exception to this is the new Chocobo theme and its annoying "Divide F#$% Rikku" voice that appears over and over in the track. Lots of other reviews commented on the skimpiness of the outfits, but I never had a problem with it. I don't play a game to see what skintight garments the heroine will wear next. I really didn't notice it until it was pointed out to me.
Taken altogether, FFX-2 seems like an attempt to cash in more on the success of its predecessor. It begins with an anti-climax and ends with a Farplanic frost.
Rpg fans beware. This game will disgust you.

I was skeptical of this game from the start, but I bought it anyway because games with female lead character's amuse me. Let's see what was good about this game........................................NOTHING!!!! A game where all you do is run around and play dress up. WOW!!! That will appeal to masses ( If your a 12 year old girl ). Any rpg fanatic like me has nothing but respect for Squaresoft and the Final Fantasy series, but my respect level has gone down a few points. I'm sure Squaresoft will be more careful in the future after the horrible reviews this game has received ( I was surprised to see there were actually some high reviews on this game here at amazon ). But no one who knows what good rpg's are all about will give this game a good review. Talking about this game makes me lose my temper so I'm going to quit now.
WHAT????

This is a travesty, the Final Fantasy series are meant to be completely unconnected to one another. Of course I loved Final Fantasy VII, but that doesn't mean I need to see the same characters again. The ending left out any chance of that anyway, personally I'm pretty sure they all died in the end anyway. Sequels are never any fun, it's an excuse to cut out a whole section of development time, the time in which a new world and characters are created, this is what makes every final fantasy game an adventure and a completely new experience, why would want that taken away, I personally am hoping that they will never make another sequel after this one, this is not the beginning of a new RPG era, just a marketting ploy gone wrong.
I give it Three stars only because as an RPG in general it may be okay, but as a final fantasy game, it will be below average at best
meh

why make a sequel to a game as bad as FFX?
the same annoying characters are as vapid and shallow as ever--they might as well be cardboard cutouts. the character development is ridiculously scripted and can be predicted hours before it occurs.
the gameplay is good as it always is, but there are other rpgs with gameplay just as good and with better characters and plot.
i am still waiting for a good next gen game from squaresoft.
Final Fantasy X-2 will rock your world

Boy, I can't wait for this sequel to come out.Final fantasy x's ending left me wondering what was going to happen to spira.I have seen the screens from the game and their awsome! There is a new character named Paine who has moves like Auron(remember Armor break?)Anyone who has played final fantasy x will definately need this game.Although its a female cast it doesn't matter to me as long as the storyline and gameplay is good. The games battle system goes back to the classic "ATB". There will be a job system whic features jobs like black mage, white mage, gunner, etc.I would reccomend this game to people who played and liked final fantasy x because this game IS the sequal to it.
(If you want ot checkout the stuff of FF X-2 then go to: www.square-enix-usa.com,move your mouse arrow to "games" and click on "Final Fantasy X-2" that appears in the list)
Lol, you people...

This game is incredible, i would have never thought squaresoft would do this and they did, I think it woulda been better if they made a sequel to FF-8 cause personnaly, I think it was the best Final Fantasy game ever. Well anyway... Unlike most of you people, I acctauly played this game, I live in Japan and it's been out for a couple months now. This game is really cool and it's everything it's set out to be, the gameplay is much more different and it's a new experience that FF games needed, I loved the new Spira, more guns and flying temples...I don't wanna spoil anything but any FF or non FF fan will love this game. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars is cause of the story, this game has great gameplay because thats what the game is mostly concentrated on, the story is nice and it has a surprise ending but the story wasn't what I expected, the story line of FF-X was much better than FFX-2. All I can say is that everything about the game is great (especially with the nice array of garments and their abilities) but the story line was cut from complicated and interesting to straight forward and typical. Play this game to it's full extent.
can't wait 4 the most expected sequal

I have played most of the games in the FF serise, excluding, FF1, FF2, and FF7. To me FFX had the most replay value and originality. The closters of trials were a very unique was of putting puzzles in the game. I am very pleased that Yuna is now a main character and that she isnt a weakling.
I'm thrilled that the job system is back. the games with the job system were and will always be my favorite.
FFX-2: Best Game Yet!

I can't wait until this game comes out in October. It looks amazing. The graphics are even better then FFX's. Yuna sings, too. That is sooo cool. Now she actually hurts people instead of just jitting them with her staff. Rikku is still as happy as ever and the new character Paine looks really cool. Yuna's outfit is totally cute and so is her singing outfit. Rikku's outfit is revealing, but I still like her happy style though. If you liked Final Fantasy X, then you should get Final Fantasy X-2. There is a job system which looks awesome. I have pre-ordered it and can't wait until October 18th.
Yuna better find Tidus! I play FFX all the time now. Over and over again. I'll keep playing it until I get my game. I have the Official soundtrack to the game already. The music is great. So, if you enjoyed Final Fantasy X, then you should definately get the sequel to it. Order it before it runs out!
