Decent Game, more eye candy than anything

Pretty cool that they did a sequel for a FF game, the controls were good and of course the graphics but there wasn't much of a story, this game basically focused on the "girls" and the graphics. Alot of the characters were annoying, especially the chick you had to give a massage too and the group of guys she commanded, Rikku's brother(Annoying with a capital "A") and the little kid on your ship. They were so annoying I forgot their names. There were a few parts of the story that was good, like the dream or Flashback Luna had and the ending was decent if you saw the whole thing. There were 2 things in the game you had too do in order to get the complete ending. If you didn't do those 2 things, the ending in my opinion wouldn't have been good. One thing that's good about the game is that there's not much of Wakka in it. (...)

Decent, Not Great

It's hard to really say what this game is. Yes, it's role play but you don't have the same role play as other FF titles. You can explore and build your characters, but the majority of the game has you going on missions and whatever else.

I'm still in the process of playing this game and I have to agree with a previous reviewer's complaint about the percentage system. I think side quests are fun to help expand the story, provide additional information you might have missed, offer greater rewards, and whatever else, however I do not think that side quests should be forced on a player or else. I think a few side quests, difference in answers, etc., would have been okay, but this game tends to be mission after mission after quest, taking the player away from the straight forward storyline that FFX had to offer.

As for the story and gameplay go, it's excellent. The first time I tried to play, I was not aware that I could have more that one character occupying the same dressphere as another. That's helped tremendously in balancing my characters out.

However, I would have liked to have had more playable characters, or something, because controlling the same 3 people gets old after awhile.

One last complaint. I admit when I first played FFX I was disappointed at how linear the gameplay was, and not being able to decide on locations to visit until late in the game. However, after playing the game, it made sense. The game was focusing more on story and needed it to keep going forward. In this case, however, the game takes back on the non-linear aspect, except now you need a guide in order to progress because if you go to one place too soon, you may end up altering the story entirely.

this game is SO good that it sucks

Ok, here's the deal. FF7 and FF8 were amazing. FF9 left a little bit to be desired, like a storyline for instance. FFX had the most potential, but the ending was spoiled by the music director for the game. A lot of things were left unexplained, but we can deal. Now we get to FfX-2. Let's see. . .it sucks. The music is completely intolerable. Yuna goes from being a devoted summoner to an Asian Brittney Spears. She goes from hating "machina" to being a "gunner". She's like a ditsy Lara Croft. The worst character from the FFX (Rikku) who sucked in every way, is now one of three main characters along with Yuna and some dude-chick. Did I mention that the music is utterly terrible? It is not dramatic nor does it add to the tension of a battle. It's like listening to bad club music while getting dizzy fighting fruitcake soldier. Did the makers of this game even play FFX or any of the other final fantasy games? I'm losing faith in the world as I play this game. I want my money back. Use the 50 dollars you were going to spend on this game to purchase a few good books. Or a gun to shoot yourself with when you play the stupid game. It's a great game though. You should play it.

A disapointment.

If you've never played the very first Final Fantasy, but would just because of the name, than this is the game for you.
If you get off watching fake girls in thier underwear, than this is the game for you.
If you loved Final Fantasy X, and are looking to continue the story... just let Titus die! This game is a watered down, half baked wet dream of someone's. It's obviouse that no real thought went into the plot. And no real work went into the making.
Send a message to Square. If you're going to make a sequal, don't just ride on the first games popularity, put some heart into it! Oh yea, don't let men in heat create the story plot.
I could go on about all the small flukes in the game, but I've allready wasted my time playing it. You really want to know so bad, go waste your money on the game.

Totally ridiculous

HIGHLY UNRECOMMENDED FOR PEOPLE LOOKING FOR A SEQUEL! I enjoyed playing Final Fantasy X a lot. It had a good, long storyline and a pretty good set-up of abilities all around. So, I purchased Final Fantasy X-2. My first reaction to this game was, quote "Oh good lord this game is gay!". Luna has transformed from a nice quiet girl into some Tomb Raider character. The music is nothing like the previous game.

The idea of dress spheres seems like a good idea, but the characters, the storyline, and the whole premise is just too... gay. I don't give deterred from a game easily, and I had beaten ever other game I own, but I couldn't get past 15 minutes of playing.

I have wondered who this game was actually designed for, but I still cannot comprehend. No straight guy would play this game because of the huge emphasis on "girl-power". Not many girls will play this because many girls don't play videogames and those that do won't enjoy the loose clothing. The only people I can imagine playing this game are 10-year-old boys who shouldn't be even looking at this kind of open clothing.

In general, a worthless game.

Crappy stuff!

Wow, i thought that final fantasy series would be the best series ever, well i was wrong, i've played ff from 1 to 10, except for the 3 that never reached the states, well, this games simply sucks, it looks great, great sound, the interesting clothes changing in the middle of the battle, the excelent battle system, wow at first you look at the game as the thing that you've been expecting for so long, but then you see the reality, chapters, one chance to do some things, and the incredibly torturing percentage system. To speak more clearly, there are some things that you can do only once, if you fail on doing it, you have to reset and retry it, there are people that you can speak with to advance in the percentage and there are people that you should avoid to advance in the percentage, if you speak to somebody you shouldn't in the chapter you'll miss the percentage needed to see what you came looking in this game, then if you miss something you cannot do it again if you're in a different chapter.
It's confusing the fact that you cannot do everything when you see the people or get the mission, because you've to do some thing in the 3 chapter to get +3% but you can do the same thing in chapter 1 but you'll get 1%.
To really "enjoy" the game, you need a gameguide, TO BE READING ALL THE GAME ALONG (the official one won't serve you by the way), you need something done to get all the percentage, the game has five endings but only one ending that you wan't to see, the 100% ending because the others just suck.
In conclusion, the traditional talking to people and nice walking around the world is jeopardized by the fact that you're going to screw it talking to somebody you shouldn't until chapter 4 or 3, causing it to give you less percentage or not giving you percentage at all. Those people you saw with bad eyes because they constantly use game guides to beat the games, well you'll become one of them with this game.
True FF fans avoid it at all costs, this game sucks big time, just stick to the story of the X and you will remain happy with Yuna and his friends.
People of Square, Hironobu Sakaguchi... what where you thinking when you created the percentage system? i can see now why namco is gaining ground on the rpg games.

The thing all hard-core gamers fear.

When there was gonna be a sequel to a FF game, surprised and excited. THere never before has been a sequel to FF games. It got my hopes high for a continous display of great graphics, storylines and gameplay ( not to mention the Sphere Grid and the CTB battle system ). However, i was sadly mistaken.
Music:
The music may be up to the modern beat but...doesn't give you the feeling that if Nobuo were the one to compose.
Graphics:
Emphazies on facial expressions and the only ones that actually DO facial expressions are Yuna, Rikku, and Paine.
EVeryone else is still very boxy-ish/ pixelated.
This game doesnt have a storyline and it was hard to understand it from the lack of information. Like if you want to finish the game fast, you'd skip the missions and going around Spira.
Frustratingly enough, when you finish the game and DONT get 100% and get a 99%, yeah, you'd like to toss your PS2 outta the window for spending so much time for it.
It just didnt seem to give the challenge of Final Fantasy. Especially when you get the accessory __ __ (im not spoiling it for first-timers) it gets mundane. There wouldnt be a point in fighting if you just get that accessory and go on a rampage.
Overall, it just didnt give you the feeling that you would normally get from playing other Final Fantasys.

As fun as watching paint dry!

I remember once upon a time in a galaxy far, far away...1997 to be exact. That was the last time Square made a good Final Fantasy game. Now all they make is pure all japanese [stuff]! Seriously this used to be one of my fave companies and FF used to be my fave games, and then they made FF8 which was the WORST THING EVER! and it seems like the ball's just kept rollin'. I happened to play all the other FF games after 8 and I gotta say NOTHING and I mean NOTHING will ever be as good as FF3 (or 6 in japan) and FF7!

Okay, so maybe some of you don't really know what the new FFX 2 is all about (like me!!), but if you enjoyed FFX or other Final Fantasy games, I can almost guarentee that you will enjoy this one. All that I know about now is that Yuna and Rikku (and later in the game, Paine) set out through Spira in the exact same places in FFX to find Tidus, who has been held captive since he disapeared in FFX, by some rival company. Of course, they all look different, and I think that Yuna will be a surprize to people who haven't seen her yet............

wonderful game , repetetive sequel

well, being a fan of the previous game , i bought this game the day it came out . well , like the first one , it has great graphics and environments, and tons of secrets and unlockables so it has a big replay value. also i liked the change of combat into time based combat.and i also really liked the entire " dress sphere" things that gave your characters different powers once they wore them . and of course, this game has more mini games then any other game iv'e seen . and they were really fun. plus the game was pretty long for me to finish, and it was just the right difficulty level. also , there are multiple endings to the game. but the only thing i didn't like is that all of the worlds in this game were taken from the previous game , so if you played the prequel to this game, you may find it a bit boring that you've already been to all these environments before. it's too bad they didn't make new worlds. so , in conclusion , this game was great , but if you played the previous one you may find it a little boring.
