Dragonball Z: Budokai (Playstaion 2 Video Game)

Dragonball Z: Budokai (Playstaion Computer Entertainment System 2 Video Game).

Obviously, because of the t.v. fame of Dragonball Z, people were anxious and already buying it before it came out, but, does it live up to its reputation?:

First, I'm not really sure whether this is an American-made game, or a Japapanese made-game, translated. If it was a Japanese-made game, translated, then it would go through the Majin Buu Saga; it only goes through Cell. Also, I have the Stategy Guide, and, in it, it has an interview with one of the producers, and, he says it took over 2 years to make. It would not take over 2 years just to translate, and, also, he answered, "make it." But, most origionally Japanese-made things, American-made, suck; I do not think Americans could pull this off. Some of these other traits follow "Dragonball Z: The Legacy of Goku" (only goes through Freeza). I just thought the fact that it was either Japanese or American-made, might help your decision buy it. If someone out there knows, then e-mail and tell me.

Graphics:
The characters look exactly like they do in the show. The only two problems, that I have noticed, are Hercule's and Yamcha's hair. It is very realistic.

Sound:
All the voices from the Funimation-made episodes are the same; the characters who are unique to the Pioneer-made episodes (Nappa; Recoome) are close, but no cigar. All the music is American; some of it from the show, some of it unique to the game.

Attacks/Fighting:
For every one of the characters, but I think one (Tien-Solar Flare), it has their most distinctive moves (Goku-Kamehameha; Piccolo-Special Beam Cannon), but with some, it makes up some (Freeza-Death Beam; Piccolo-Distructive Wave). As for fighting, it has the usual punches kicks, etc.

Story:
I think that it stays %100.00 true to the show's story. Basically, the way you play is, whenever there's a major fight in the show, you play in the fight. First, you play as Goku against Raditz. Then, you see a movie clip where Goku gets Raditz's tail and then lets go. Then, you play as Goku holding Raditz. Basically, you must keep Raditz right in front of Piccolo so he can blast him with the Special Beam Cannon. You see an other clip of what happens next, and then play as Gohan against Nappa. Then Goku gets there and you fight against Nappa, then Vegeta. You see another clip, then play as Gohan against Recoome, then Goku against everyone in the Ginyu force. You see another clip of how Captain Ginyu switches body's, and then play as Goku (in Ginyu's body) against Ginyu (in Goku's body). You see another clip, then fist play as Goku not a S.S. against Freeza, then against Freezaa as a S.S. (but with any character, if anyone punches or attacks a S.S. hard enough, you go down to regular form; same with characters who can transform-Freeza, Cell). You see another clip, then play as Goku against #19. Clip, then Piccolo vs. #17. Clip, then Goku vs. Cell. Clip, then Gohan (S.S.1) versus Cell. Clip (Gohan S.S. 2), then Goku vs. Cell Jr.'s. Clip then Gohan (S.S. 2) vs. Cell. Clip, game won.

You can also play in the Tenkachai Budokai. You first can start out playing as and against the main characters, then, you can play as and against each character that is defeated in the main game.

Overall, this a great game. BUY IT!! (You have to get the stategy guide though, or it's impossible)

If your looking for a decent fighting game try Tekken 4 or the new Mortal Combat (although nothing beats the first or second mortal kombat. There isn't much to do in this game, you do a story mode to unlock capsules and characters (capsules are needed to actualy do a move), and the moves aren't that easy to pull off because sometimes there is lag time which cancels out the combo. If you throw a few punches then try to kick, it doesn't always work just leaves you open for attack. basicaly you can beat everyone by just blocking and moving until the one you are fighting stops attacking. When you do the tourney's you have to chose what capsules you can use in a tourney and limited to the amount you can use in battle. There isn't any endings in the game, unless story mode was considered an ending and its the same one each time, not to mention you don't get to chose who you want to use in story mode, it goes by the cartton episodes from the beggining of dragon ball z until the end of the cell saga. The point of the tourneys is to win money to buy new moves. I don't understand the hype of the game. Replay value, when my other games get boring.

This game is great!

This game is the greatest of all the Dragon Ball Z video games, including "Dragon Ball Z: Legacy of Goku". It has all your favorites Dragon Ball Z characters, including the Great Saiyaman that you can unlock throughout the game. You can battle from the Vegeta saga to the Cell games. There's 60 combos, and you can trade them by swaping your memory card with your friends! If you're a DBZ fan this game is for you ;).

The graphics for this game are awesome, espcially to the PS2 version (which makes everything look like a cartoon). The reason why I had titled this "Easy, yet hard," was because, for me, the story mode was somewhat easy, but once you beat the story mode, you can get awesome techniques, that are hard to do (namely Goku's Spirit Bomb). However, this game isn't as fast as I expected, so I took a point off, but IN short, this is a great game.

WELL TO GET STARTED THIS GAME IS A REALLY KEWL GAME THE GRAPHICS ARE AWESOME ITS NOT EASY TO BEAT BUT ITS NOT IMPOSSIBLE. YOU NEED A MEMORY CARD TO OPEN OTHER CHARACTERS.
ANOTHER PLUS IS IF YOU BEAT THE WORLD TOURNY MODE ON ADVANCED WITH EVERYONE YOU GET SS4 GOKU SO THIS GAME IS REALLY AWESOME

Flashy but no effort.

I admit I was very pleased to see an effort to put DBZ into gaming. But this game is an insult to the DBZ saga. Okay, it was very nicly done for its outer shell, but the inside was horrid. Every character consists of the same basic moves except differently comboed. Even Hurcle had flight and charge up. Its sad so see that all characters had the same powers and life. I set Comp VS Comp with Cell against Krillin. Krillin won.. gimmi a break.
