This was a surprise for my 12 yr. old and he loves it. He plays it for hours over all the other games he got including Guitar Hero (hard but fun) and the new Wii system with sport package. He loves them all but when I ask what are you doing? It's "playing Bully, thanks Mom!"
An enjoyable, fresh game

I wasn't sure about Bully when I first started playing, but my reservations quickly faded away. The game is certainly similar to Grand Theft Auto, but more mild. And that certainly isn't a bad thing. This game isn't juvenile, it is still rather mature and witty. The storyline is great, and the classes help keep things fresh, though honestly I just wanted to get them all done so I could focus on the story. And making my character look fabulous. But that's just me.
There are a number of things I hated about GTA that this game really doesn't do. For one, the town isn't huge, and the streets are straightforward and easy to navigate. The same can't be said of all areas in GTA. Instead of spreading out small towns and having vast expanses of "nothing", Bully cuts down on travel time while still providing interesting, diverse areas.
The missions are also diverse enough to keep you interested. Sure, there's a good amount of fighting, and most the time you simply jam the square button to win, but the objectivies of each mission are pretty well mixed. The missions are not as hard as GTA, but I liked that I didn't get the feel that missions were "annoying" just to be challenging like I did for some of the GTA missions.
The game is smooth and easy to get into. It isn't overly challenging perhaps, but it challenges you enough to be fun, and the story keeps you playing. This is a great game to grab if you want a fun, relaxed experience that will really make you laugh.
While I own and enjoy all the grand theft auto games, I had more fun with Bully. It is innovative and creative, easy to play, funny, and fresh.

This game is so much fun to play and it's funny too.Your Jimmy Hopkins who was sent to a boarding school and you defend people from bullies and gangs. There is so much to do in this game in free roam.Once you beat chapter 1 the school gate opens up and you can explore the whole city. The city includes a carnival(You can even ride certain rides there are 3 and play games),a beach, lighthouse,a waterfall which isn't far from the lighthouse, townhouses, barbershops, stores, clothing stores, bikestores and other places. You can basically do anything in this game take showers, swim, wash hands, buy sodas, kiss girls and even guys, pull firealarms, etc etc.You are mainly fighting bullies but if you want to you can hit anyone girls, boys, children etc but doing so will often cause the perfects to come after you.If you wind up in the principles office 3 times you have to cut the lawn but it doesn't take that long. You have 2 classes a day and there is a clock on the upper left to tell you what time it is.Passing these classes often offers big rewards.I will break this up into what you get to do in this game and weapons and vehicles at your disposible.
Kissing
This boost your health but it's also fun to do in the game.Generally once this becomes available you must give the girl flowers or chocolates to get a kiss however once you complete art 5 you can kiss without giving gifts and it raises your health by 200%.To Kiss Press L1 and the x button you will see a little flower symble give flowers or chocolates then press x again when you see the lip icon. The kissing varies too with the exception of Eunice the girls will only smooch you until you complete art 1.Once you beat art 1 the kisses get longer.Beat art 5 and you actually get makeout kisses which are the longest. There are 8 kissable girls.Once you kiss these girls they will actually follow you around or even chase you till you give them another one.Usually the thing that will end it is if you get caught by the perfects or someone picks a fight with you.If one of your girlfriends see you kissing another one of your girlfriends they will either fight each other, you or both.Pretty smart game AI.They however forget about it and will let you kiss them again.I can't think of a better way to get my health up.If you run out of flowers you can always go to the girls dorm and pick some or buy some at the yum yum store.Note drinking sodas will also give you a healthboost but not as much as kissing.
Kissable Girls
1)Eunice The big fat girl you get to kiss her very early in chapter 1 once you get her chocolates back that someone stole from her.She is the only girl to give you a makeout kiss before you complete all the art classes.Once you get her chocolates and she makes out with you you can always kiss her as long as you give her chocolates.
2)Beatrice She is the cute nerd queen and becomes kissable once you beat the bitch story and chapter 1.She wears glasses and has a ponytail and wears a green dress.
3)Angie Shes the cute girl with glasses and a ponytale. She becomes kissable after beating art 1.
4)Christie She the fox that has red hair a ponytale and whiteshirt with what looks like a police badge. She also becomes kissable after beating art 1.
5)Pinky she is the hot prep queen she becomes kissable once you beat carnival date in chapter 2.
6)Lola Shes the hot greaser queen and wears a black outfit. She becomes kissable in chapter 3.
7)Mandy shes the hot cheerleader of the football team. She hates you at the beginning of the game but becomes your girlfriend and kissable once you beat the disgrunted mission in chapter 5.
8)Zoe Another red head is the queen of the townie girls. She becomes kissable once you beat final showdown at the end of chapter 5 basically the end of the story.
You can also kiss some guys there are 6.Basically you have to have 60% respect from their clicks before you can.Unlike the girls once you beat art 5 you still have to give the guys flowers to get a kiss and the guys kiss also brings your health up.Kissing the guys in the game is just for laughs.
Kissable guys
1)Trent He's the white haired bully.
2)Conelius He's black and the only kissable black in the game and he's the nerd with glasses that looks like Steve Urkell.
3)Gary Prep King
4)Vance Greaser King
5)Kirby Jock King
6)An unnamed Townie wearing a white tanktop with a picture of orange gear.
Weapons
You gain a ton of weapons thruout the game and these are fun to use.
1)Firecrackers these do the most damage to enemies but their mainly used for mistufe.
2)Itching Powders
3)Marbles throw these and watch your enemies fall.
4)Spraypaint
5)Spudgun
6)Bottle rocket launchers
7)Slingshot
8)Superslingshot
9)Eggs
10)Spud Cannon
11)Rubberband ball
12)Camera Not a weapon but it gets in your stockpile so I list it anyway. The camera takes pictures in black and white.
13)Digital Camera takes pictures in color.
Vehicles there are a lot of vehicles at your disposile but you have to earn them.
1)Skate board this is in your stockpile just mash L1 and R1 and it brings it up automatically
2)Bicycles Once you get them they will be located in garages or you can just steal one from someone.
3)Mopads
4)Go Carts these are the fastest vehicles.
5)If your a long way from the school and just want to get there quick if you don't have these vehicles just go to one of the many busstops.
Cliques
There are 6 clicks in this game and knowing were to find them is important.
1)Bullies can be found anywhere their mainly around the school carlot but will suddley attack you anywhere especially the school yard.
2)Preppies They hang around the Heritage Hall.
3)Greasers hang around the Autoshop
4)Jocks hang around the Gym and the football field
5)Nerds hang out at the library
6)Townies hang out at the Blue Skies Industry Building.
Characters
I won't list most of the characters except
1.Gary befriends you at the beginning of the game but becomes your enemie at the end.
2)Russel is your enemy in chapter 1.You fight him at the end of chapter 1 and once you beat him he becomes your friend and also helps you fight. He's pretty big and musculer.
Costumes and outfits
There are many outfits for you to use.You gain access to many once you get up into the game. There are even Halloween and Christmas outfits.
Townhouses
You often earn townhouses for progressing thru the game and you can save your game from these locations as well as change outfits and stock your stockpile.Your main place is at the boys dorm at Bullworth Academy. These other places come in handy when your a long way from the Academy. There are several locations but I'll only list 1 for now. This is given to you in chapter 2 once you beat one of the prep missions.
1)The beachouse out by the beach
Weather
Yes there is even weather in this game thunder, lighting, rain and snow.
There is also changing day and night cylces.
Other facts on this game
1)You must be in bed by 2 am or you pass out.Your sleep stage only last a second then it's morning already.
2)The Perfects will chase you down if your not in class or if your doing something wrong however you can get away by pressing the triangle button.
3)You can give swirlies and pinch butts by getting behind someone and pressing L1 and the O button.
4)Interaction is triggered by tapping L1 and O when coming up to someone. You can also apoligise this way.
5)You earn money by helping people out and you can also get jobs in this game for money.Money is important to buy clothes, chocolates, souviners for your girlfriends and vehicles.
Things I didn't like about this game
1)You can't date and hold hands in freeroam. There is only 1 story that will let you do that and once you beat it you can't date anymore. The only thing you can do with girlfriends in this game in free roaming is kissing.I hope hand holding and dating will be available in the xbox 360 Bully Scholorship Edition expanded version once it comes out in early. 2008.
2)They should have given you places to make out like movie theaters and cars.
For those of you who are worried about sex and nudety in this game don't there isn't any. There is some strong language but it's few and far between.
Other GTA freeroaming games I recommend are Spiderman 2,Spiderman 3,Hulk Ultimate Destruction and Jaws Unleashed.

This game is a must buy. You have so much freedom, from starting food fights to giving kids swirlies it is a great game. You have classes and missions, a curfew, and you can get a skateboard, a bike, a go cart, or a moped. You have girlfriends, friends, and enemies.
It's about a new kid at school who finds himself without any friends. Then Gary comes. He says that he wants to take over the school but he needs your help. Then he betrays you and it's a race to who takes the school over. This means you have to get the respect of six different groups. Preps, Nerds, Townies, Greasers, Bullies, and Jocks.
This game is fun and you will be playing for hours!

The first thing I did in Bully was beat some guys up!!! This game combines the social, fighting, and acedemic elements of school. There are people that you can interact with (smooch girls) and people that you can fight with (beat up the loosers). You can dis any body you want and pick fights with the prefects (school police). Plus, there are an array of weapons. Use marbles to trip up your pursuers, firecrackers to blow someone away, or the slingshot to take someone out from a long distance. Also, you can roam around the school whenever you want, as long as you don't get busted by the prefects when playing hooky or being out after curfew. This game also has some pretty interesting mini games: lockpicking, chemical mixing (in chemistry), word unscrambling (in english), and hiding. All in all, this is one of the best games I have ever played!!!
THIS GAME IS SOO FUN!!!

I love this game! It's fun, fresh, original, funny, interactive, engaging, visually astounding, artistically inspiring, simple in concept yet brilliant ...the list goes on and on! I think the video game market is in an extreme dry spell right now and this game outshines most of what's out in the V.G. market. This game hands down gets a 5 out of 5!

For all of the worried parents out there, I will say this up front; I think that the Grand Theft Auto series is wrong and can't believe Rockstar is allowed to produce it. That being said, I think that Bully is simply the best game ever created. It is fun, original, and kept me occupied ,literally, my entire Christmas vacation. I have played and beaten many games in my time, and none of them can even compare to Bully. After I beat this game, I tried to compile a list of my top five favorite games and realized that Bully was number one, and nothing else I could come up with even deserved to be mentioned in the same sentence as it.
When this game came out, it caught a lot of flak for being violent in realistic settings and promoting violence in schools. Then it started getting reviewed and that talk stopped. I wanted to play it for myself to see what really went on in the game. To be completely honest, there is nothing wrong with it at all. It definitely earned the "T" rating but to give it anything more than that would just be ridiculous. You don't kill anybody, and you never get killed. Most of the weapons that you have eventually run out of ammo or just break. There's no blood and you don't do anything that might induce it. The main character could even be considered to be a role model, sticking up for the downtrodden and trying to teach the bullies of the school a lesson on being nice. It's actually detrimental to attack people without any reason because then you have to run from the authorities. If you see the Rockstar logo on this game and get worried, relax, because this is nothing like Grand Theft Auto. Bully is the best game that I have ever played and personally think that it is the best game of the 21st century. No other game that I have ever played even comes close.
Give the mean kids a good shot!

I am so excited about this game! I can appreciate the Rockstar games for the strangeness and creativity, however the Grand Theft games raise questions for me. I was playing Grand Theft thinking about how cool it would be if they made a game with the same cool open world factor, but (here's the geeky part) if it was a character and setting that I could relate to more. In this game "Bully", you get to be this kid who has mean parents who drop you off at a rough school called Bullworth Academy. I am only 10% into the game and I've passed 4 or 5 classes (which are really interesting mini games), gotten into crazy fist fights with all kinds of different cliques, stuck up for small kids getting picked on, practiced doing skateboard tricks off the school steps, and skateboarded into town and got my head shaved at the local barber! The map is huge and I'm nowhere near opening everything up. I am amazed by the detail and work put into the game. The storylines develop well and the way that you condone yourself among the other students affect your well being. When I first started playing, the player's movement was kind of spastic but on the skateboard it's very easy to maneuver. If you like games that are on the unusual side and not typical, then you should check this out.
New game or Grand Theft Auto Remake???

If you have ever played any of the Grand Theft Auto games on the Playstation 2, I'd probably recommend skipping this game. It's plays exactly like the GTA series, but without the "Mature (M)" rating. They've toned it down to get a "Teen (T)" rating, although it could've easily been spiced up for the Mature audience.
The gameplay is near identical to the GTA series; you have core missions that must be accomplished to "beat" the game, plus there are tons of little side missions that can be accomplished if you choose. Also like GTA, there are hidden items that you find as you travel through the world; this is one aspect of the game that somewhat annoys me, inorder to find everyone of these little items you would basically need to buy the Game Guide, or have a walk-through tell you where each and every one is. Too much hassle for me.
So, if you haven't play a GTA game yet, or you thought they were to violent for your kids (which they are), this is a great alternative, however it does have some violence, language and suggestive situations in it so pay attention to the "Teen" rating. If you've played, and liked the GTA series, save your money, you'll most likely be bored with this title very quickly.
