I too am a long time player, totally immersed in the game.
On November 15, 2005, changes to the game rendered alot of its features useless or unplayable. This is a fact.
If you have never played a MMORPG, these terms may be unfamiliar to you. If you have never played a MMORPG, Star Wars Galaxies is not the first game you should start out with.
-Crafting Profession- "Item Decay" was removed. Items in the game that you craft will never wear out. There is no longer a market for your items.
-Character Level "skilling up" or getting your character to the highest level (90) becomes nearly impossible after level 45-50.Quests are full of bugs, which means you can't complete them and advance in the game. The current leveling system, unfixed, would require at least 6 months to reach level 90 and start having fun.
-Low server populations- due to the game being rendered "unplayable" due to broken quests, broken bugs, and game items that no longer work, there was a mass exodus of players. These players are not the "minority"- their absence means that when you log on to the game, there are very few people to help you get gear, skill up, and navigate the game.
I loved this game. It was truly one of the most graphically beautiful games I've ever played. The former (Pre November 15) content was rich and functional. It is now unplayable. Don't buy it.

If it wasn't for the dated graphics, it would be incredible to believe this game is two and a half years old. Apparently, the latest complete game overhaul was rushed out the door with only two weeks testing... and it shows. Nothing feels finished about it, at all.
Unless you enjoy beta testing products, so much so that you're willing to pay a monthly fee for the previledge, then I suggest passing on this game and maybe giving it a try four to six months down the road when they've (hopefully) got the major glitches worked out.
TOO MANY BUGS TO BE FUN.
Stay away, not worth your money.

Please do not waste your money on this game. You can not trust Sony or Lucas Arts to provide a quality experience with this game.
Spend your money on something else, this one is a stinker.
They lie for your money!

this game is a travesty of broken promises. the game barely works, and i don't know in what world SOE and LA think they can get away with blatanly lieing to people to steal their money on a product that never happened.
DON'T BUY THIS GAME! if you want to try it for yourself, go to their website and download their free trial. believe me, the free trial will ensure that you'll tell everyone you know to stay clear of this game.
i didn't play the old versions of this game, i just came for the free trial, and i've never played a worse game!
It's not worth playing.

If your into MMORPG's SWG is no longer worth playing.
1- Profession Diversity has been slashed from 36 Professions to 9, 2 of which are now borderline useless professions (Trader & Entertainer).
2- It's a really bad hybrid of a FPS and MMORPG. Meaning it has all the flaws a FPS can have (Including Cumbersome interface) and a lack of special attacks.
3- After level 30 and the completion of your New Player quests you need to go through countless hours of painful and repetative grinding to get to Level 90.
4- Once Level 90, there is nothing to do in this game.
5- All weapons deal the same amount of damage, so their is no point in collecting loot.
6- Jedi is a starting profession and is not special at all and is rather common.
7- The game is riddled with bugs and exploits since they put in this new combat system. If SOE could not fix the bugs in the previous system with over 2 and a half years to work on them, how are they going to fix these bugs quickly.
8- The servers are dead, you will be playing with no one if you buy this game.
9- If you are dissatisfied with this game, you can not get a refund. So say you blow $150 on a yearly subscription, if you cancel it a month after getting it, you are out your entire $150.
10- SOE just treats its customers poorly. They inform you of major changes to game play at the very last minute, ignore customer feed back, and do not try to make your experience enjoyable, if SOE were in any other service business, then they would be out of business.
So please save your time, money, and energy, do not buy this game.
SOE/LA Have Lied, cheated, and betrayed their playerbase 1 too many times.

Not only is the new "dumbed down" version of Star Wars Galaxies completely horrible. They announced the NGE Just 2 days after Trials of Obiwan officially went live. SOE/LA Lied via Omission and misdirection to make us think that a lot of broken professions were being revamped. Well, they were, just not the way SOE first said they were.
The game went from 32 professions to 9 classes, has taken on a decidedly cheesy CONSOLE feel. (At the time of this writing, Sony Online Entertainment is denying that a console version is in the works for the Xbox 360 or the PlayStation 3. But if anyone has watched G4 T.V. and the Xbox Launch, they'll know that a 4 different celebrities commented on how much they liked SW:G for the Xbox 360 and couldn't wait for it to be released later in 2006.)
They (SOE/LA) have completely betrayed the veteran player base time and time again. We have seen our servers go from full, to empty. We have seen our items converted 3 different times (each time they converted to worse and worse stats.)
The new combat system and keymapping make it impossible for many veteran players to play the game. People with disabilities who USED to be able to play no longer can because of the changes and SOE/LA has done nothing but lock/delete/perma-ban These customers for asking questions that the two companies did not want to answer.
If you buy this game, If you buy EQ, or EQ2, or any other SOE/LA game, you are buying from 2 low down, dirty, lying, cheating companies and you WILL be sorry you did.
Honestly, Between this and Sony's RootKit Fiasco, It wouldn't surprise me if class action lawsuits are soon to follow. Considering the playerbase has been cheated time and again, considering how SOE/LA are refusing to refund unused subs. It's a complete disaster.
Oh, and for those who buy this just so you can play Jedi as a starting class now. FYI: Jedi are the weakest class in the game. They get beaten day and night by all ranged professions, and they get destroyed by ranged toons 20-30 levels lower than they are.
Between the Combat Upgrade, The New Game Enhancements, The Thousands of Bugs, and Lag that just keeps getting worse, buying this game, playing this game, will be a study in frustration and anger.
Save your money. Go play WoW, or wait for another MMORPG to come out. SW:G is has been ruined for all time.
Also, The Playerbase, through painstaking effort, has discovered that SW:G's servers are now capped at 400 people a piece because the coding has become increasingly sloppy due to all these major game changes. They've had to reduce the player caps repeatedly, but they have refused to admit it yet.
All I know is that after the NGE went live, the servers showed (heavy) And there was hardly anyone online at all. When the game LAUNCHED 2 YEARS AGO, The servers could hold 3,000 players online at any given time. That's how bad it is now.
Let this game die, Maybe when Lucas Arts sees the error of it's ways (I'm convinced SOE as a company will never learn.) They'll make an SW:G 2 and sub-contract it out to blizzard or another MMORPG company willing to do it.
If SOE has it's hands on it, it's dirt. They took the biggest fantasy franchise on the earth, with millions of fans willing to pay/play, and managed to totally trash any chances of this game being a success. It's amazing, but true.
The game is not star wars. No matter what SOE/LA tells you.

DONT BUY THIS GAME. You will absolutely regret it after the "honeymoon" phase of the game is over (probbly 1 week).
This game is completely bug-riddled to a point where its hardly playable. The developers have been aware of most of these bugs and only fix them months after they appear, if at all. These are major bugs which could be noticeable with 5 minutes of testing, however SOE and LucasArts dont seem to have ANY QA department.
Every patch introduces new MAJOR, GAMEBREAKING BUGS and impliments changes that are the REVERSE of what SWG players want. Today's patch, for instance, made jedi completely unplayable as it broke all their ranged attacks.
In addition, rather than adding to the game, SOE consistantly takes away from it. And they don't put back in what they take away. For instance, Battlefields, a Force Rank System for jedi, Bounty Hunter Player Missions, Faction Bases, a Force Sensitive Village, and more are all examples of things they have spent months developing and then just decided to remove them. Not a good value at all for the customer, as they are paying $15 a month for that wasted development time.
EVERY PATCH NERFS SOMETHING. Players are quitting left and right because all of their equipment keeps getting destroyed by patches, and SOE doesnt care. For instance, you could spend months and months and millions of credits on Skill Enhancers, Armor, Weapons, and other equipment, and then SOE will introduce new changes that disable you from wearing that equipment or break the effect they have. This has happened OVER AND OVER AGAIN and will continue to happen.
THE XP GRIND IS SLOW AND TEDIOUS AND YOU WILL ONLY BE ABLE TO SELECT ONE PROFESSION FOR YOUR ENTIRE SWG CAREER. The game used to have 32 unique professions and you could pick whatever skills you wanted. Now you can only choose from 1 and if you dont like it, too bad. You're stuck with it. This is especially bad because SOE ROUTINELY UNBALANCES PROFESSIONS and doesnt fix them. Right now Medic can beat any other profession easily, and SOE could care less. They really don't attempt to balance the game at all.
The servers are EXTEMELY LAGGY for MMORPG servers. If you choose to go jedi, you will only be able to hit mobs and opponents who stand still. If they run away from you, then you will actually have to RUN AHEAD OF THEM to compensate for lag and hit them. Try doing that in Player vs Player; thats why jedi can't beat any other profession and is by far the weakest choice. Although 90% of the server are jedi. Real starwarsy, huh?
Finally, and by far the biggest gripe players have, is that the DEV team doesn't listen to players input whatsoever. Reported bugs are not fixed, and suggestions are not acted upon. The developers make the game how they see it and could care less about player feedback. They will introduce new, gamebreaking changes a few days before they go LIVE and not even inform the community in advance. Exploits are not responded to. And rather than add to the game and to the profession, they simply remove things from the game and nerf professions. For instance, originally to get jedi a player had to grind for up to a year, but when she finished, it was worth the effort. Then, the devs nerfed jedi to a point where they were absolutely useless but let everyone be jedi. Real fair to those people who worked hard for a year, right?
To summarize, STAY AWAY. This game is infested with BUGS that dont get fixed, LAGGY servers, incompetant developers, and horrible gameplay. Once the "newness" of the game wears off, you will wonder why you ever wasted your money on this trash.

I bought this game last month. And have yet been able to play. I, like some other people that have this kit, have only gotten error messages. I have gone to the sony tech support, as well as my ISP, and HP tech support. The game still won't work. I contacted sony again, and I am still waiting for an answer.
Do not buy this kit. If you have never purchased SWG and played it, it will not work for you. So far the only ones that have seem to be able to get this software to work properly. Are those that have already been playing the game.
My computer is barely two months old. It supports another RPG online game I play. No problems with that one. There is something wrong with this software.

I've played this gane for 3 years, but recently I had to quit due to the game being changed into garbage. Here are 3 reasons NOT to play this game:
1) Bugs, bugs & more bugs - This game is just simply horribly coded & unplayable. There are litteraly more bugs than I can count. The worst part is they keep adding more.
2) Horrible Play - The new combat system isn't even fit for Barney. It's been turned into the WORST FPS immatation I have ever seen. I've never loved the combat, but this is just unejoyable now.
3) Lies - SOE, who run the game, keep changing things & liying to the players. I've never seen a company be this dishonest. They WILL take your money and abuse you. 10's of thousands of people have quit this game in the last 3 weeks because of the actions of SOE and their lying. Over 100 people I personaly know have quit.
I loved a lot of things about this game, and the depth was amazing before the recent changes, but now this is THE worst Star Wars game I have ever played. Think of combat WORSE than DOOM...the original. This game is going under... don't be suckered into going down with it. Do your resaearch and you'll find that it's not worth it.

SWG WAS one of the best games in the market today. Rich and delightfuly complex. Despite the horrible customer service from SOE, SWG had the deepest and most involved community of and MMORPG.
SWG was incredible with over 40 professions to choose from. From Jedi to Bounty Hunter or just plain dancers, there was a wonderful mix of combat and non-combat classes.
now there are ONLY NINE classes to choose from. A HORRIBLE combat system full of bugs and glitches. It's amazing how SOE took one of the best games and ruined it.
SOE is now in the game of deleting any forum posts in their forums that critisize them. SOE openly admits trying to corrupt online poll results by falsely entering positive data when all reviews are negative.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!
