true freedom

if you lik rpg's this is one of the best, and you can read the other reviews to see why. the newest feature i want to point out is true character freedom. in most rpg games you are given moral choices, but within the gaming peramaters you have to answer a certain way to win. now i perfer to play good characters, but i like the option to be "pure evil" once in a while. in this game you can do whatever you want and you won't be punished like in balder's gate when the towns people will attack you if you have a bad reputation. in this game no answer is wrong, some choices may be harder than others, but at least they're your choices.

Torment the soul

This game was pretty awesome...I picked it up because it was cheap even though I have never heard of it before.

It has a good storyline that kept you interested in what more you could learn about the mysterious character that you play. Torment kept giving you little pieces of your memory as certain events or items triggered them. An interesting concept. The graphics and sound were impressive, as was the witty humor from the floating skull(pretty funny).

In all, it was very well thought out sleep devouring game that kept you in the dark and action for most of the gameplay.

Amazing! An underappreciated classic!

Wow, I can't believe I let myself put off getting this game for so long. It is just amazing. It's not often I can get hooked on a PC RPG because they tend to have too much of what feels like filler. Black Isle's Baldur's Gate changed that with a much bigger emphasis on story than earlier PC RPGs but still had its moments that dragged. Planescape, on the other hand, has one of the most addictive and compelling stories I've seen in a RPG in ages. If you've missed this one so far, don't pass up on it any longer.

Definately a great Black Isle game which deserves to sit in such high tiers as Fallout 1, Fallout 2, and Arcanum. The story makes playing an Immortal fun for once (so read up, Soul Reaver makers). The characters are imaginative and deep(and you can talk with the other characters in your party to enhance the story). Find your journal, learn of your past, and for god's sake, use the sphere.

You start out as a fighter, but you can quickly become a Thief or Wizard (just look around). The story does hit home, but it could have used a better ending (no offense, this game earns 5 stars just playing it from one end to the other). The payoff is getting there, not the end.

This game puts you on a bumpy and fun ride. Buy and enjoy. BTW, Soul Bringer (the game this one is hooked to on a Duel Jewel) really bites in comparison.

atmospheric, original and addictive

This is PC gaming at its best: it has a huge replay potential, as well as lots of humor, killing, magic and a large number of quests. One can play this as an evil person, or good; a fighter, magic user or thief; physically strong, smart, or a combination of both. I've played this game 4 times, and each time I chose a different path, which resulted in a different outcome.
Overall, this game is in my top 3 of all time.

One of Black Isle's Finest

This game is a true triumph of design. The story is the most inventive, unique one I have ever experienced on the computer (let alone in literature.) It is worth playing time and time again. The characters in it are also the best I have seen on the computer, from a talking, floating skull to an animated suit of armor striving for justice. The game play lives up perfectly to the fantastic setting and story. Your characters each are very different. One gains much of his power from the increase in power of his sacred sword which levels up with him. Your main character also increases his abilities in limitless ways, from purchasing back an eye he lost countless lives ago to switching on the fly from a mage to a warrior. This game while not perfect is just about as close as you can get (the 640 by 480 set resolution being it's largest flaw.) I recomend this to anymore who has the slightest intrest in roleplaying games.

Best CRPG ever done

This has to be the best CRPG i've ever played. The storyline was linear but beautifully done. It made you care for the characters in the game and the ending was magnificent. It truly is one of the greatest games of all time.
