Take this on a lonely island

There have been exactly two games that have seeped into my life, stolen endless hours of my time, ruined my relationships and job opportunities - Doom and Planescape: Torment. Since Doom is history now, let's forget about it.

Torment is something you'd like to disbelieve at first. A game cannot be that good. It just can't. The storyline of the game is the most sophisticated I have ever seen and it would make for a killer movie. The dialogue in the game is about 400 pages in length and has been written by true talents. The main characters are so weird that you just gape at them. I have a sexy picture of Annah as my wallpaper while writing this, you know. :)

As for the game engine, I'm very pleased with the fact that it is zoomed-in compared to Baldur's Gate. I really enjoy the little details you can see everywhere.

Excelent rpg, period!

When i played this game more than a year ago, i was totally engaged in it. The plot is excelent, as is the setting. I don't know why some reviews (ANY review at all) could talk so bad about it. Some say they don't understand it, some say it is some "Goth" stuff for youngs. Well, i don't know if i'm a supergamer or something, but i didn't find the game THAT hard. It is hard to beat, that's true, but it is playable. About the "Goth" thing, Man, how intolerant. You should give the game a chance, it truly deserves it.

And the ending... wow! ... I think I cried and clapped like in the opera :)

This Game Is Amazing !

This game is one of the best I have ever played. The graphics are clear and smoothe, the settings are extremely detailed, and the music is the final step in creating a lush atmosphere. As if that is not enough, the story and characters possess enough detail and depth to justify a sizable novel. Your character is an amnesiac immortal who awakens in the Mortuary with no memory of his past and no friends but a floating skull with a biting sense of humor. Because you know nothing about yourself, you are what you make of yourself. Your actions determine your alignment and you can change your character class at will. You attract tormented individuals like a dog attracts fleas, so your party members have personal issues that it is up to you to deal with. Above all, you must recover your memories in order to save yourself and your companions. Be careful, this adventure could turn you into a hemit chained to a computer. You have Been Warned

Stability problems

I can't argue with much of the content of the reviews here. However, be aware that the character control is really poor and that's aggravating in the extreme. I have a high-end PC with lots of memory and disk and the game crashes (just leaves for the ether), on average, about once for every 3 hours of play. The game has lots of nice dialog options, character 'alignment' (good/lawful/neutral, etc.), but the problems I've mentioned make it pretty low in my estimation.

Torment.... NO SLEEP!

I absolutey Love this game! My wife on the other hand hates it! Once I started playing and figured out the mouse based game (hooraah) the TORMENT began. From Fighter to Thief to Fighter to? What comes next? Thats the beauty of this game. The worlds are great. The weapons are outstanding and the spells are something to look forward to! All I can say is save, save, save. Everything you do effects something else. I curently have 5 RPC's to help out with the battle plan. Be advised if the game starts to skip, don't get frustrated! Save your game, get out, shut down some of the programs you have running on your tool bar, ie anti virus, task scheduler, anything that will use ram. You will not be bored. Make sure you look at everything with your mouse icon, there are plenty of things to overlook!

A wonderful story and really intresting charecters. Here is my pros and cons

Pros: *Magnificent 3D graphics from Black Isle studios, creators of Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale *Not-your-everyday charecters, such as a floating skull, a walking-and-talking suit of armor, and a woman with a tail(a.k.a. tiefling) *Game play based on D%D 3rd Edition Rules *Powerful enemies such as Wererats,Wyverns,Zombies,Ghouls, and Street Slugs

Cons: A small game, only 900 MB and 4 cds Bird-eye view means medium sized land Only can have 5 other charecters in your party

Still, not that bad. A good game for D&D fans!

A writer's RPG.

This is an RPG with style. In fact, it has more style than all the other Infinity Engine games combined. The story is creative, enthralling, and very astounding. The characters are original and highly interactive. You can see that a writer designed this game.

What is not happening in this game is combat and action. The player is going along for the ride instead of taking a direct hand. There is also not much customization. Character creation is simplistic with only a meaningless choice between three different classes that don't make any difference over all.

Still, it's a good game for those who are cerebral and don't have an itchy trigger finger.

It doesn't get any better than this. The story was the best I have ever played through in any game EVER! I was engrossed and could not stop until early morning. I had to play it every day! I can't believe how great this game is! Good job Black Isle Studios!

Torment may well be the best video game I've ever played.

You're an immortal with amnesia. You wander around the Planescape universe, recovering memories and becoming stronger. You gain most of your XP from conversations and don't have to waste too much time fighting random battles to gain XP.

I can't even begin to describe how great the world you have to wander around in is. The combat is ok, but it's the storyline that makes you play this game.

There are a few bad things about the game. First of all, I don't like the old AD&D 2nd edition system it uses, but that's mostly transparent to the player. Second, there's some random crashes, especially when you're casting spells. The solution to this is to save often.

In short, buy this game. It's cheap now, so there's no reason not to buy it. Grab it before you can't find it any more because I'm not selling you mine.
