best rpg I have ever played

This is the best RPG I have ever played. The storyline are character interaction are far superior even to Baldur's Gate. This is not like other games. The atmosphere of the game really pulls you in. For starters you wake up on a slab in a morgue with no memories but notes to yourself tatooed on your skin. And in the room with you is Morte the floating skull who tells you he's your friend. How is that for a way to start a game. The game is big, you won't be disappointed there. It is not a new game so you don't need the latest Pentium IV and latest graphics card to run it. The graphics are not as eye popping as today's games, but this is a truly awesome game.

A PC game set in the Planescape Universe? Get outta here.

Wow. Those were my first words after playing Planescape: Torment for the PC. I have to tell you I am an avid fan of the Dungeon and Dragons Planescape Universe. I own almost every product made by TSR and was quite shocked to see that they were making a PC Game of Planescape. At first I thought it might be like Baldur's Gate. Sorry guys I wasn't really impressed by Baldur's Gate. But like I said after playing it for 30 minutes I was convinced that this was going to be the best game ever. It was really a well done game and faithful adaption of the Dungeon and Dragons Planescape Universe. There are so many good things to say about this game I don't know where to start. Well let me just tell you my favorite things about the game. First and foremost the story. Amnesia works well in a story if used properly, like Memento. That in itself is a great hook which will keep the player playing for hours just to find out who he is. And then I loved the different methods you could use for situations in the game. If you had hight Charisma or Intelligence you were given different dialogue choices that could change the the game. The first time I played I tried maxing out the Charisma, Intelligence and Wisdom stats so that I could regain more memories and have more things to say to the NPC's. That has to be a first in Dungeons and Dragons where I didn't try to get high Strength, Dexterity or Constitution scores. Unfortunately I never finished the game as it was very tough. So I missed out on a lot but what I did play was awesome. I went out and bought the novel, which was good by the way, and read the whole story. There was no way I was missing out on that story. And what a great story it was all the way up to the ending. So if you haven't played this game yet go out and buy it. Don't be deterred by the 2D graphics, once your in the game you won't even notice. In fact I just might load the game up and try to finish it this time.

One of the most awesome games ever

I got game a few weeks ago because it was cheap, and I was bored. It was one of the best gaming decisions I've ever made! This game is creepy, funny, touching, and mysterious all at the same time. You will be drawn into its world from the first few moments of gameplay.
One of the coolest things about Planescape: Torment is how detailed it is. The landscapes are beautiful and haunting. The characters are so in-depth, you'll feel as if you're right there with them. Even the zombies are individuals (which will definitely creep you out when you're in the mortuary). The story is so good, that you start playing and next thing you know, it's four in the morning and you *still* don't want to quit! This game ranks as one of my all-time favorites, and for many good reasons.

As the local Planescape guru and only local DM of the setting, I cannot consider this game anything short of beautiful. The sheer wealth of knowledge and insight it provides aids me more than any TSR book could, and it makes my head spin a bit. It's made what would be a lackluster campaign into something the players really enjoy. Time to get their rears out of Sigil, though, because one of the PCs plays Torment himself, and knows too much about some of the tasks. I love this game for so much more than its play value. I read the Unbroken Circle of Zerthimon for the story alone.

Superb yet not perfect game ever (4.5 stars)

I had never played Baulders Gate (The 1st Bioware RPG) So I just had to get the next thing. When Planscape Torment came out i got it because of its eye candy cover. I had never heard of Planscape before (its a dnd setting whatever) but this game is great because you dont have to know anything and I MEAN Anything. Your character, the Nameless One gets to ask about everything. You can become an expert on the planes by asking around. You start out with a horribly scarred amnesiac fellow whose stats you can customize to suit yourself. Instead of starting out in a tavern like many other RPG's you wake up in a bloody slab in a mortuary. WOW that got me into it. The game has an unique and fantastic storyline and plenty of flavor items and characters. I would have to say it has the funniest dialouge (even better than NVN SOU which is hilarious) Pretty powerful spell efects and great sound are always appreaciated too. There are flaws, Though you have a lot of freedom, you just wish that you could personalize it more. No biggie though Morte, your floating skull friend always lightens the mood. Another annoying thing is that the game seems too easy, Youre immortal and you can raise all of your allies, you can heal on the fly instead of taking rounds like other games and you can basically avoid combat through 90 percent of the game. The dialouge is REALLY long and tedious after awhile too. By the second time you play the game, (you will be playing more than once) you will skim through most of it. I itch for a fight alot in the game so i kill townspeople and get chased by the harmonium (guards) which is great fun for evil characters. You allies are pre determined but great. Morte is the best feature about this game, and you get some other sweet friends (along with the occasional ignus or vhailor. Anyway dont let the negative stuff stop you, this game second to only the NVN trio which had 2 expansion packs to help. This game is just plain fun. Alot of it.

My son is the actual gamer in the family. I came upon this purely by accident and ordered it immediately. My son loves classic RPG, meaning more storyline and fun game play instead of being all graphics. I haven't been able to tear him away from his PC. He has been a gamer since he was little on Nintendo, now at 18 he is much harder to please...this game certainly does that. Excellent Value.

I always try not to fall into the rave trap whenever I give my impression on something I truly enjoyed, but I just can't help myself with this game. Others have stated well the game's strong and weak points, so I'll just add my own two cents.
In short, it's the best story ever conveyed through a computer game, with extraordinarily fleshed-out characters, a world which needs little else other than description and dialogue to be immersive (rest assured, the graphics, music and sound won't disappoint, dated as the game may be), and a fantastic, thought-provoking plot. A true masterpiece accomplished by people who nurtured true love for games and storytelling, and an absolute must-buy in any serious gamer's list.

If you want a game with a excellent story plot with lots of twists and turns, This is is. But also be aware the puzzles and the solving of this game are about impossible without a hint book. This has to be the hardest game I have ever tried to play. I have played both G.K. 1 and 2, and they were a cake walk compared to this. But as I said the story plot is very intersting. I recommend this game if you don't mind getting the book too.

after wasting my money on baldurs gate (a game i just couldn't quite get myself into) i decided to give Torment a try. i was not disappointed this time. a great story with twisting plots, spectacular characters, and one of the best game music soundtracks i've ever heard, makes this probably the best rpg i've ever played on a computer. if you like rpgs at all, i strongly recommend giving this a try, it won't look like much at first, but as you get further into the game, you'll become so involved and concerned over it, that you won't be able to leave. well, maybe not THAT much, but it is a remarkable game.
