Stay Tuned for An Incredible license!!

There is little doubt that this is going to be one of the top games of 2003. The December 2002 Game Informer Magazine gave this a full-length feature, and it left little doubt that this is going to be a powerhouse game. Enter the Matrix is being developed with a close collaborative effort between gaming industry and Hollywood so that they can create a game experience "as rewarding as the movie."

There will be ultra-realistic character movements with the over 4,000 motion captures performed and encoded into the game. We are promised over 200 minutes of in-game cinematics and voices from the actors of the film including Keanu Reeves (bless his heart). You can play as Niobe or Ghost, and you play along side characters from the first movie (Neo and Morpeus). Screen shots look promising with plenty of special effects. Unless the something goes terribly wrong between now and the release of this game, we can expect ONE AWESOME GAME!

This game is guaranteed to be one of the best games of 2003! The first movie was great the second looks sweet from the previews and the next one after The Matrix: Reloaded is bound to be great. This game is going to be a mix of Max Payne, and Tomb Raider by the looks of the screenshots, but also it has the storyline of Maxtrix Reloaded. Theres no way thing game is gonna have people wishing they hadn't bought it... there's defenitly no way.

Good Story, but Still Flawed

Now, before any Matrix fanboys(or girls) jump on my back, just hear me out. Obviously I think this game will be definitly worth playing. The story looks great and the kung-fu looks incredible. However, the graphics are not up to par with what can be currently produced. Unfourtunatly, the controls are rather clunky. The "Focus" gimmic, while it looks very cool and fun, it promises to be rather difficult to use. And, the gimmic isn't even their own idea. Max Payne first came up with the idea. In conlcusion, I beleive Enter The Martix will be an average game, but it will be worth playing even if only for the story.

Nice but there are better

I got my hands on and played a copy of the PC version. Sad to say I was disappointed. It was pushed as the next great game and the graphics going to be great and cool and all this and that. It just doesn't live up to the hype.

I recommend renting and trying it before you buy it. All your getting is a single player game (no mods, expansion or online gameplay) for a high price and not all that great at that.

Story is somewhat slow and confusing. I haven't completed it yet so we will see but so far nothing to make me sleep with this game under my pillow. You are given tasks in the beginning but not told why or what for so you don't understand.

Graphics were a disappointment on the PC. This game was made for consoles and the PC was an afterthought. Knowing this, the graphics will probably look fine if not ok on the consoles (probably look the best on the xbox). It would have been nice for the graphics to take advantage of PC video cards and processor power.

Sound is not a distraction and actually is the best part of the game. Adds to the mood but is more often instrumental taken from the first matrix. There are some times when the music is heavier and makes you feel more pumped up and ready to take on all the bullets. Best part of the game (which is sad)

Controls are wierd. Perhaps this is because of it being on the PC but I think even with a gamepad it would feel wierd. Your character runs EVERYWHERE. Kind of annoying when going into a tense situation. Guess your not suppose to sneak or be careful but go in with guns blazing. Which would be cool but the fighting is reduced to button mashing. There is no training center or dojo to learn how to master fighting, focus (bullet time) or shooting. Instead you are given 'tips' as you move through the game. The controls are clumsy and found myself at times with my back to ememy strugling to face them to fight. Seems the game would rather show you how cool you look than let you actually do something useful. Seems to be very big on looks but lacking on substance.

This is a place for REVIEWS

This is a section for RE-views. RE as in past tense, meaning you have played the game. How can you review something that wasn't even for sale on the day you wrote your "review". I'd even give you leway had you played the demo but, don't review and put up 5 stars on what is coming.

Enter the Matrix - brilliant but unforgivably flawed

I excidedly opened my package containing the matrix reloaded on May 14th (sent 1 day early by my local supplier), and merrily installed it. i was surprised by thr 4.3 gig (yes you heard me) minimum install, but soon got sucked in. the 3rd person combat is just, in one word awesome. when with just a few button presses you can have your character grab an enemys gun, throw him over your shoulder, turn around and shoot him mid air is just astonishingly cool. the "focus" system works very much like the bullet time system in max payne, but also allows your chacater to do a whole new set of moves, as well as slowing time down. overall the 3rd person combat (and thats all it is folks, no puzzle solving just combat after combat after combat) is just fantastic, and more than worthy of a purchase. however, the driving sections (which are interspersed with the 3rd person action) are terrible. really terrible. really really terrible. as gunner (you can choose between 2 characters, one who drives, the other shoots) the car drives with all the skill of an 8 year old on tranquilizers. Enemy cars are indestructable for no given reason and the whole driving section seems rushed and messy. Another niggle is the sound. 2 in-game engine cut scenes have no sound at all, and there are massive sound errors on both the freeway level (where all sounds are blocked out by constant "wind noise" so loud you have to mute your speakers) and the later nuclear power station level (where the echos of footsteps and gunshots again, drown out all sound and are DEAFENINGLY loud, again to the point of having to mute your speakers. this games sound is so bugged it needs an exterminator. despite these problems the game is fantastic, and i have not had such an enjoyable single player experiance for ages. if the sound problems are sorted in a patch this will be an excellent game. it is clear the PC version is a rushed port of the playstation/xbox versions and sadly it shows.

Run away!

A waste of the 3.5 gig installation space. This game is just bad. Sure it's got some nice features, but the developers left out an important one -- gameplay. The gameplay is horrible and the driving levels will make you long for the crappy gameplay that the rest of the game has. I'm using a trainer to try to follow the story and not have to worry about gameplay and can just run through -- but I still have to do the stupid driving levels! This one definitely wins the Daikatana award for 2003 -- all hype. It'd be nice if they released a story version or movie that'll tell the story of the game without us having to play the wretched thing.

Gameplay not perfect not still insanely impressive

Well I decided to actually watch the movie and play the game before posting a review, but I understand everybody's eagerness...

First of all, I can say that it's a very impressive game, not only about gameplay but also the way it intertwines with the movie. There's about an hour of footage (haven't seen them all yet) with all the same actors as in the movie. It basically fills in a lot of what went on during the movie but they couldn't fit it in, all revolving around the character Niobe.

You can play one of two characters, and the tasks are different depending on which one you pick, so basically that means you can play this game twice.

The gameplay combines FPS (kind of), third person shooter, fighting, driving, and ship piloting. Given this ambition, I guess it would be too demanding to ask for everything to be perfect, and it's not. The one-on-one or one-on-many fights are very impressive but sometimes I feel like a chimpanzee could just sit there and press the mouse buttons to kick some agent ass (can I use that word on Amazon?). Driving was a bit awkward as you can't change views but well done nonetheless. Shooting reminds me of Splinter Cell a bit, but you have to guess your aim as there is no target marker. What's great with the Niobe character is that you can run on walls, do somersaults as you shoot, slow down the action so you see the bullets in "bullet time," jump great distances, and other funky stuff you see in the movies. I haven't played the Ghost character yet but it seems more gun focused (sniping, shooting from cars, etc...).

As for the footage, I was surprised how closely they follow the movie. They probably filmed the movie and game footage at the same time. The only actors you don't see from the movie much are the main characters like Neo, Morpheus, and Trinity. If you watch the movie first, you'll get a lot more out of it. I also feel bad for those that like the movie but don't play games, since the one hour of footage is definitely a great supplement to the movie.

Anyway, that's my two cents. If you like video games and like the movie, it's a must buy, and even if you like only the movie or video gaming, I still think it's worth your while.

Save your money for a PC game

I have played about the first hour of the game. It is obviously NOT designed as a PC game. It does NOT have a save anywhere feature, a serious flaw. Navigation and movement is jerky. When you move the mouse the character on screen (it's a 3rd person perspective) moves in increments of about 10 or 15 degrees. So it's impossible to precisely control right/left turning or aim a weapon properly. The game compensates for that by having a green halo surround an enemy when they are targeted. Shift right/left a click or so, see green halo, fire...they die. It's a dumbed down shooter.

The martial arts scenes are impressive, although the player has no control over movements. One need only move close and mouse click repeatedly to see scripted ass kicking. It is to yawn after a short while.

There is a first person mode that can be uses for sniping. Aim lacks precision. Again, the mouse does not move smoothly, as it does in games designed for the PC, but in increments. Also, when shooting around a corner, a special move, it is impossible to aim at all. One sees the character leaning and firing, but the camera angle is fixed and there is no possibility of actually aiming at an enemy. It's a great way to waste ammo.

Focus or slow time is easy to use, and it has its advantages both with hand to hand and weapon combat. There are special focus moves that are rather nice, if scripted. Again there's little player control. Shift+forward+F = fancy scripted focus move, which is probably going to be useful against the enemy, but it needs no player skill to accomplish. And, that is a huge flaw. It's WAY more fun to pull off a fancy move if the player is controlling it.

Enemy AI is behaving rather stupidly in the game so far. They wait while their comrades are being punched out, and then you can walk over to them to do the same to them. They will shoot from a distance though. It's hard to shoot back precisely though because of the jerky side to side movements of the mouse. And, past a distance the green halos don't appear.

There is a first person sniper mode. Again, moving the crosshairs is a jerky affair, so aiming is imprecise. Close is good enough to make a kill though. In first person mode one can strafe right or left but not move forward or backwards. No sneaking around for you snipers! And, no leaning around corners to snipe either. )c:

Too much money was spent on story scripting, cinematic scenes, and not enough on making the game FUN to play. It's a poor shooter. Jedi Outcast got it right. Enter the Matrix is just another movie tie in console game poorly ported to the PC. The developers don't love shooters, or games, and it shows.

Another over-hyped, rushed release

I am a giant fan of the Matrix series. I've already seen Reloaded three times, but Enter the Matrix is just another example of software developers rushing the release of a game to coincide with the movie release. It's not that the game is horrible, its just that it isn't finished yet. This game honestly feels like it is still in a late alpha/early beta stage of development. In the fighting portions of the game, there are immense clipping errors, clunky controls, non-existant enemy AI, never ending enemy respawn (in front of my eyes, enemies I had just killed would instantly reappear in the same place when I turned around) and no creativity in the kung-fu control. Rapidly mashing the punch or kick buttons will automatically pick a random combo depending on whether or not you're in "focus" mode. The driving engine is simply abominable. The driving AI continually drives into buildings and off bridges. Of the few other cars on the road, all look like they have hydraulics going beserk. Both police cars and normal traffic bounce around like their tires are made of "flubber." The integrated FMV is wonderful and the sound is decent. I'm disappointed that the game boasted 3d EAX HD sound capability, but it only supports the Audigy2 generation of EAX, so anyone with Audigy soundcards are out of luck for realistic 3d sound. I hope you have a high-end system if you want to play this game. EtM ran marginally well on my dual P3 1Ghz, 1GB RDRAM, Audigy, Radeon 8500 system, and I was running at 800x600 with only 50% detail. Characters still lagged and voices barely synched with the faces. I'm severely disappointed with this game and I am returning it today. .... If the developers had another 6 months to complete the game, maybe it would be ready...but for now, everyone should avoid this money trap like the plague that it is.
