This is a fun game. I got the Platinum edition and it has a few ectra things. Things! Not actual game options. No, it has the same game options as the normal edition. But the graphics are a MAJOR improvement over Red Alert and Command and Conquer. The story is again very cool. The between mission videos are very interesting and cool looking, especially the one with the GDI Mammoth Mk. 2 stomping everything Nod, though there is a lack of Nod end mission videos. You can easily modify the rules file to change the game yourself if you get board after playing it non-stop 12 hours a day, or you can download game mods from the many different web sites made for it. Some of those are as follows: www.tiberiumsun.com, www.tiberiansun.com, www.westwood.com, www.tsden.com, or the last I know, www.realts.com . This is a cool strategy game. The skirmish mode can be very hard if you adjust the game setting that way, the multiplayer options are the easiest I have seen out of the Trilogy,(which I now own), the missions are not too too hard, but if you get stuck, just visit any of the above sites and get a walkthrough or two or three. You don't need any $150 graphics accelerator either. This is a fun stratagy game.
Good But Not Great

This pretty good, it has a good story, great in-game movies and adequate gameplay. However most of the marketing for this game has centered around it being a sequel to Red Alert. This is simply not true. The two games have almost nothing in common and Red Alert is a far better game. In saying this I mean that Tiberian Sun takes a huge step BACKWARDS in terms of gameplay from Red Alert. Gone are the ships and air planes to be replaced by boring helicopters and cheap "hover units".
However this game is not a total waste it has a very good storyline and execellent cinematics, featuring performances by several Hollywood stars (well maybe not stars but close enough). The graphics are pretty good but other games have done better.
Sure it's a classic and if you really like the series go ahead and buy it. But if you want the true best strategy game of 1999, go and check out Homeworld it's a far better game.
They've outdone themselves again!

As a seasoned veteran of the Command & Conquer series, I have to say that I was very impressed by Westwood's new product. The new concepts were very cool. Such as the deformable terrain, the diagonal layout of the structures, the subterrainean units, and the times of day when battles take place. However, it lacked some concepts of the earlier C&C's. Mine layers, for example, or any special weapons or units which can reveal or replace the shroud. (unrevealed terrain.) and the most notable missing feature, neither side had any form of a navy. the only unit even associated with water is the amphibious APC. However, I think that Westwood did this on purpose. I don't think that they want any one of their products to outshine any of the others. that would hurt sales of other C&C games, and if someone was given Tiberian Sun as a gift or played it on the internet, with the promise that it was the best one in the series, they might be dissapointed, and pass along the bad review to other friends who were potential customers. However, it is dissapointing that they have to scrimp on some qualities to "Balance" their games. It's disheartening. but there are some qualities about the game which stand out. the new briefings, for instance, are much more impressive than any others that I've seen. but I hated the impersonalness. in the other games, Kane, Gen. Sheppard, Stalin, Von Esling, or whoever was giving you your briefing always spoke to you personally, but in Tiberian Sun, you are either Commander Michael McNeil,(GDI) or Commander Anton Slavik,(Nod) the impersonalness gets to you, and is probably the worst feature of the game. There is no sense of promotion, as there was in all the other games, and the factor of controlling the whole world instead of just a continent disconnects the game.you are trying to control one section of the globe and aren't nearly finished taking it over when you are whisked off to another section of the world to fight. It leaves you thinking, "That's It?" when you complete the final mission and the credits start rolling. The game is a jewel, though. Very creative, Very exciting, Very addictive. and Frank Klepacki has outdone himself again with an incredibly futuristic and ambient sound track. A very proud Five Stars.

Tiberian sun is an example of how a real time game should be. Great campains where you can be either Nod or GDI. This game also has great skrimishes. Where you can play the computer on a diffrent level of difficulty and can play anwhere from 1-7 enimies. With alot of diffrent units and buildings this game is not to be missed.

I wanted Tiberian Sun from the day I heard it was in the make. I thought Westwood had taken the Blizzard route and waited until a game was near perfect to release it. WRONG. This game is nothing short of terrible. You have 2 races and basically the same troops for each race with few exceptions. There are no powerups and no upgrades. I thought Red Alert was an excellent game until Starcraft was released. Believe me dont waste your money on this game. It is not up to par with Red Alert and not even on the same planet as Starcraft or Age of Empires II. Save your cash and get Starcraft or AOE II if you want a real time strategy game. It has deformable terrain which is an interesting idea, thus, the extra star. Otherwise it earns 1 star in all catergories, ecspecially graphics, its like watching an ant farm at work.

I bought this game about 1 year ago and it was pretty good. It is a bit hard to learn hence the weird names of buildings and units. Other than that it is very good. The graphics are really good considering the time it came out. The controls are really easy to learn and remember. Once you are engaged in combat with the computer or a friend on the internet you'll never want to stop playing. Once you start, you wont stop.

I don't see why some people say this game is so bad. Actually, I think it's pretty darn good. Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun is a war/strategy game where you set out to conquer the world in the Brotherhood of Nod, or defend peace as commander of the Global Defence Initiative (GDI). The graphics are WONDERFUL, or at least so compared to the other C&C games. Explosions look real, your battle units erupt smoke as they are about to die. The graphics are almost too good; it gets a bit bloody sometimes. Oh, and the cutscenes are also a major improvement, I'm not good at rating movies, but these at least are better than the original C&C's. You're not just having a small talk with your superiors then going into combat, you are actually a person on the screen and the story evolves with these cutscenes. The sound as in the sound effects are themselves pretty good, but they sound so often that you get a bit annoyed. The music is really something, all-new tracks but with the same sort of techno beat. There are only 15 now, though. As for single-player gameplay, it's great exept for a slight disatvantage: once the basic armored units become available, the rest of the units become almost obsolete. The armored units, with little or no support, can attack or defend very well. The game has two "campaigns," one for GDI, one for Nod. Your opponet is controlled by the computer. Also, there's a random map generator which gets you right into play with the AI. As for multiplayer, I'm sure it's very good but I have heard of some bugs in the connection. The fact is, I've never actually played it because I love the single-player mode. I'm also sure that it has the same disadvantage as the single player (see above). Sorry for the lack of information. The storyline has more detail of the conflict than ever. Video cutscenes will really get you into the storyline, despite the fact they are incredibly short. One last thing: I don't think Nod has a big advantage over GDI. I think that GDI, using proper strategies and tactics, can beat Nod any day. And Nod can do so to GDI.
This game is a disappointment

To me this game is a disappointment, i have played the red alert games and i really loved it, but this game is so wierd, the graphics, the sound....everything is really professionally done but this game is just a mistake. e.g. what's the deal with those hunter seeker missles you cant defend your self against them thats just to wierd for me i dont really recommend you buying this one i rather want to recommend to you that you wait for C & C red alert 2 and buy Thief 2: Metal Age. instead of Tiberian Sun or just buy Star Wars: Force Commander but leave this game in the shelf. thanks for reading.
Tiberian slow it should be called

I thought Red Alert was one the best games ever (well, at least until Starcraft and half life came around) and I was really looking forward this. I was pretty disapointed. Some nice bells and whistles in the game but the addition of 3D didn't add all that much to the experience in my mind. It looks great but the I found the play to be lethargic..even at the high game speeds. I also found it more difficult to distinquish which units were which at times than in Red Alert. It also seems that many of the missions seem to be commando missions where you race your forces accross the map with periodic replacement troops instead of more build you base and then attack missions. I was so disapointed with this game, I gave up after the tenth GDI mission. Life is too short to play bad games like this.
Great game!!!!!!

I just don't understand those who want to give this game low marks. This is a game that when modified with the numerous free online downloads is as good a game as any out there.
To start this game is a sequel to command and conquer not red alert which is the much more popular westwood game. That was a problem for some who just assumed that westwood would come out with a red alert sequel first. Never the less there are features in this game that improve upon the original. The original CnC did not allow for skirmish play against the Al opponent only missions. This game does allow multiplayer play and the Al is very competitive at the more difficult levels. There are some other small extras as well such as more colors to choose from and the oppportunity to make a map right at the game menu. Just set your specifications and it makes a map that's meets those specs. One new feature i love is the option for a deployable mcv. This allows you to start a base and then move your command center to another area. This game is also much more strategic then the originas CnC. The maps are spectacular with many cliffs, ridges and rivers and lakes. No game has better maps and terrain. I wish i could say the same about the units though. While the structures are creative and attractive the units look down right bizarre and cartoonish. Some may like this but i don't. The colors of the units and structures are rich and pleasant but some units are too strange looking to enjoy. The infantry look alright but the tanks take some getting used to. Another unfortunate aspect of the game is that the nod is given the more strategic interesting units. The gdi has more size and firpower while the nod is more sneaky with it's burrowing apcs and missles. One feature i like is the infantryman. The disc throwers for the gdi or the rocket guys for the nod have armor that makes them much more competitive in battles than a rocket guy or grenade guy in red alert. You can't just run over these infantrymen. A group of 10 disc throwers can do serious damage to a camp if allowed to sneak in or they can quickly do away with a harvester. The basic play is bascially the same as CnC or red alert but there are enough new features here to make it a worthwhile purchase at $20.
Overall i would rate the stock tiberian game that comes from the store as a 3.7 to 3.8 stars. A good solid game. What makes this a truly great game is the numerous free downloads and upgrades available both at westwood.com and many other sites. On the program menu for the game is an upgrade option from westwood that helps to work out some of the bugs and improves the game. In addition there are literally dozens of web-sites devoted entirely or in part to this game that provides an incredible array of free downloads that provide game modifications, new maps, units and game tips ect. Also included are opportunites to join klans and clubs, things that really enhance the enjoyment of the game. One download called "resistance 2.0" will add 50% more speed and firepower and will double the number of units and structures. You can find this download at tsden.com. It is these additional modifications and options that convert a good game into a fantastic game. These upgrades and downloads are absolutely free and require very little time, effort or computer savyness to add and if you're ambitious you can do your own modifications.
The only complaint i would have of my modified game is that there is no navy. All these wonderful maps with water but no opportunity to make destroyers or crusiers like in red alert or total annililation.
