The game was fun. No doubt. Online is intense and the story line for single player has an ending with interesting battles here and there. Unfortunetly there just isn't enough next generation changes.
Online play is not for young children. Competition reaches all highs and swearing and vulgarities occur constantly. Especially from the younger crowds. Its intense fun but sometimes people take it too literally or take advantage of their autonomous status. Swearing and insulting.
It looks great. If your a Halo:CE or Halo2 fan pick it up out of principle. But don't expect the super next gen experience that was overly bragged.
Yay! Halo for a third time!

I'm going to keep this short and sweet.
If you liked the original Halo then you'll more than likely like Halo 3...and you probably like or will like Halo 2 for that matter.
To be honest it is the only trilogy that keeps as true to its origins as the original as I've ever seen. Graphics are...meh...compared to other games for the 360...even with HDMI I was disappointed.
Halo was the sweetest thing since sliced bread and I do cheer for the Master Chief. Seriously, what's not to love about the guy? He's tough, gruff, kicks butt, and is basically invinceable.
However, if you don't play multiplayer then this game probably isn't worth buying. A strong candidate for a rental, sure, but not for purchase. It's basically Halo with a few different guns, the same maps with trees and rocks in different places, and a few differently placed bad guys. The addition of equipment is interesting. All in all this is an average game.
If this game had been as innovative NOW as the original Halo was back when it was new then I wouldn't have been able to give it enough stars. Today, however, it just seems...tired...or tiresome...or even both.
Basically you don't win or lose with this title...you pretty much break even.
almost perfect

Now, many people have said this game is very similar to Halo 2, this is true, but you must realise, Halo 2 was perfection. How can you improve perfection? Play this game and find out.
New Features:
Probably the best video game graphics ever
Forge, you basically get to add anything you want to a level, and with one of the new levels "Foundry" (which is a very big, open room) you get to literally make your own map. You can place weapons, vehicles, boxes (each are about 20 feet tall, so you can make buildings out of them), spawn points, gravlifts, man cannons and teleporters.
Saved Films, rarely used, but useful when you did something really cool you want to show friends.
Man Cannons, freaky launching thingies that can launch people around (really fun to put in a row and bounce along)
New Weapons
New Maps
New Armor
New Ships.
The best of these new features is probably Forge.
In-game the gameplay will be very like Halo 2, and you will sometimes forget you are playing a new game. But it is still extremely fun, and entertaining. With "Forge" the gameplay takes a new twist, as you can use different features and use them in weird ways (I put teleports inside steel cages, and the person inside has to find there way through the almost endless amount of cages). This, is probably the best video game of all time. Let's try and see Nintendo do that.
10/10, from every angle.
It's what we were expecting

This game is just what you'd expect--a psyched up version of H2, which is perfectly fine with me, as I lost countless hours of my college life to H2. The campaign mode is nothing too special, and in fact is entirely inferior to Gears of War. Multiplayer is where it's at. The guns are essentially the same, though slightly modified for balance (the energy sword now has a limited power supply, for example). Also of note, the control scheme is much better than H2 and more comfortable than Call of Duty.
Graphics and sound analysis aside, what Halo executes better than any other consol FPS is guns-blazin' action. The maps are all condusive to flat-out in-your-face battles. If Halo 3 can guarantee one thing, it is that you will NOT get bored. Clearly, Bungie played it safe by not fixing what wasn't broken. That said, H3 multiplayer has fallen a bit behind certain competitors (CoD 4, for instance) in its aging setup. Rather than playing on level footing by selecting a weapon of choice when the match starts, you still begin with a vanilla firearm and have to seek out the heavy-hitting weapon located somewhere in the given map. If you aren't familiar with the maps -- much less with where the primetime weapons are located -- you will probably get whitewashed. While I suppose this teaches new players to become more resourceful and learn to survive with "regular" firearms, it's like rookies having to pay their dues.
Let's be honest--the real reason this game is exciting is because it's Halo. If you loved H2, you will love H3. If you weren't a fan of the prior installments, H3 will not convert you. The new features such as bubble shield and radar jammer are cool, though not exactly giant steps beyond what H2 brought to the table years ago. While innovation is conspicuously absent, the gameplay hasn't changed. You WILL lose track of time playing multiplayer, and nothing beats hooking up with friends online for some intense action. It's worthy of a purchase if you are a fan of the series.
Great graphics!

This is the very first Xbox game I played. It was really more like a theatrical movie than a game.
I did have some trouble at first adjusting to the Xbox's controls. I am more used to using a keyboard, mouse, and PC joystick. However, one quickly learns the controls on the Xbox, and it actually becomes easier than using a keyboard and mouse.
The game itself is a shooting game. Basically, you have to shoot down the bad aliens. There is really no strategy, other than not being shot. It is a skill game, not one that requires deep thinking.
The graphics are breathtaking...assuming you can survive long enough to venture far enough into the game. I found it very useful and smart on the developers' part to have different levels of difficulty in playing the game. But since this was the first time I played on the Xbox, I still had trouble surviving even with the easy setting. For some reason, I kept falling in water and drowning, and the snipers somehow managed to take me out. Then there is the mean alien with his sword who's just a mean $%#@#$%. I was glad when I killed him!
Talking of killing him, I did harbor a lot of anger and hatred towards that particular alien. Is that healthy? Is this game bringing out the evil in me? And if so, once this side of me is manifest, do I ever get rid of it? In other words, do violent games make us violent people? This is a question that has been asked many a times. Many researchers argue that violence on TV also makes us prone to violence.
I do prefer playing games that make me exercise my mind. I like playing Chess and Risk. I also like Monopoly, believe it or not. But my all time favorite is Microsoft Flight Simulator, but this is not yet available on the Xbox.
I did hire (so to speak) my little cousin to play Halo with me. He is an expert at it, and actually managed to finish it. I watched as he played, hoping to learn from him the different techniques of killing the aliens and evading them. However, I found myself immersed in the graphics, rather than concentrating on his hand movements on the joystick.
Halo is really like a movie, and watching an expert play it is like watching a Hollywood Sci-fi. It is as fun watching another play as it is playing it. For this reason, among many others, when this game first came out, movie theatre attendance in the States declined!
Games have truly evolved since Castle Wolfenstein!
Kinda good but still overhyped

I've been hearing about Halo for a long time. Everybody liked it. The things they say are "It's epic! The multiplayer is awesome. Whoa! THE FLOOD!" Seeing as I was a broke PS2 and PC gamer , I couldn't buy either games. Then, the 360 came out. All of the shooters (that i played) were impressive- Gears of War, Graw 1 and 2, Bioshock, and Rainbow Six Vegas. (not to metion they were made by PC gaming companies)
Halo 3 came out. Since I was pretty interested, I decided to buy it.
When the loading screen came up, I was like "...Hmm....this is a pretty serious game...." Then, i saw the little annoying enemies. I saw the stupid AI. Wow. Pretty serious and epic.
The singleplayer is way too serious, the story is kinda stupid, and there were no bosses. Sure, the scarab parts were kinda good, but the singleplayer is still kinda stupid and cliched. I went on to try the multiplayer. It was pretty good, I went up to Sargent in 5 days. The Forge kept me going. The great Needler and Plasma Sword had me at the top of the list.
So, why did I give it a 3? The game is pretty average, not on par with PC games at all. It seems to be a shinier version of Halo 2, and the single player was horrible. The multiplayer was a bit above average. The price, however, set me back. $60 bucks for this game when I can get 2 new PC games? No. The only reason why there are even good shooters is that PC game makers decided to come to it because people "couldn't afford" a PC...when you can buy a good PC for the same price as a premium 360, Live, the overpriced game, and the controllers. That means that the 360 becomes mainstream, because of its "cheap" price and its world availability.
Why do I think PC games are better? Not only do 99% of all PC gamers think that the Halo series is either equal or worse than PC games (polls on gaming magazines, forgot which one), but the fact that the most developed, best videogame companies started with the computer. Including Bungie, with its Marathon series. And, those companies will still make better videogames for the PC, THEN they might port it to the 360. Want a list? The Half-Life series (including Counterstrike), the Elder Scrolls Series (YES! OBLIVION IS BETTER ON THE PC!), Unreal, the "Cry" games, the Call of Duties, and the Battlefield series.
In short, Halo 3 is just a way too overhyped & overpriced videogame. Buy COD 4 or something, unless you're playing the multiplayer for Halo 3. I know people who used to play in Halo tournaments and competitions. They say that Halo is just overhyped, and not as good as you might think it would be.
Very fun, hard yet not too frustrating, getting achievements very rewarding

it's just a really fun game to play whether you're on single or multiplayer. the achievements in the game are a blast to get but really hard. occasionally frustrating. all i need is my double laser shot and i've maxed them. the multiplayer is well balanced on skill for the ranked matches but occasionally you'll come across someone who plays team all the time and just now decided to play some lone wolves that will completely own you. or there are the pricks that renew their account every month and just dominate. these times are frustrating but few and far between. lag can also be frustrating but you have to understand the internet is not instantaneous... YET! overall this game is very solid and looks extremely good! and unlike COD4, the enemies don't constantly pore out of a building like cockroaches. when the area is cleared, the area is cleared.
Let me get this off of my chest... since some have it totally wrong

As far as the single player game goes - Halo 1 is by far - BY FAR - the worst game in the series. This is a simple and obvious fact. The black screen retical parts alone make this so. Part of why we buy video games is to take us to a new and exciting world - not a black screen with a lousy retical. The quality of Halo 2 and 3 are about the same in this mode. As far as Halo 3 goes (and probably all of the Halo games), it's obvious that 80% of Bungie's efforts seem to have gone into the multiplayer. None of the Halo games are worth it for the single player alone.
Outstanding as it should be...

Excellent game. Not much else to say. I've owned Halo 1 and 2 so it was a no brainer getting this game. I just finished the solo campaign and the storyline is great. The graphics and gameplay are amazing just like every other Halo game.
I haven't been onto xbox live yet to play, but I'll be getting my gold subscription soon now that I've finished the campaign to get into that realm of the game. Can't wait!
