Actually, that should be zero stars. This is the second worst game I've ever played (the worst being Superman 64). If you are considering buying this game, press the back button on your browser IMMEDIATELY to save yourself [money] and a LOT of grief. It is impossible to hit your enemies because you can't even face them. The graphics are choppy and looked like somebody cranked this thing out in their basement in the space of a week. On top of that, there are probably 4 or 5 sound effects in the whole game, and all of the characters sound pretty much identical. Do you like elevator music? I hope so, because this sorry excuse for a video game is LOADED with it! All in all, this distressing title is downright awful. Avoid it at all costs. So start punching that back button!
Do not be fooled into buying this terrible game...

I really don't understand what all these people are talking about. This is a really bad game, I mean really. It has average psx graphics but that's besides the point. The point is that this game isn't even worth renting. All you do is go around and kill some stupid droids. Everything looks the same and you soon realize that this game is going nowhere fast (remember The Tick for SNES?) It seems that since this game had the words "Star Wars" in it, that everyone thought it would be great and went out and bought it. Well at least that's what it seems like.......it's the second best selling psx game on Amazon! Just save yourself the money and go out and buy something at least decent.
Don't waste you money on this turkey

First off, I love Star Wars. I loved Episode One. I Loved Episode One Racer. I hated Jedi Power Battles. The creators of this game had such a great concept and idea for this game, but in the end it suffered the fate that so many movie to video game ports do... what to do between the events of the movie. 9 times out of 10 the answer is to fill space with inane Super Mario Brothers running and jumping.
In this game you're a Jedi Knight! You have a lightsaber! But for some reason you can't manage to go near the edge of a platform, without losing your balance and falling to a grisly death. Lame. The programmers concentrated too much on ridiculous ways of killing a Jedi, and not enough on cool ways to kill a Jedi. Î'll admit the music and sound is great. The characters look great holding their lightsabers, but for pete's sake these are Jedi Knights, the most legendary warriors in the galaxy, they gotta have more than 3 moves! Also, the film versions of the lightsabers pretty much went through those droids like butter, what's up with having to smack them 7 or 8 times to kill them. I think a more interesting approach would be to increase the quantity of the droids attacking, rather than how many whacks it takes to kill each one. The Jedi don't have enough fluidity in their attacks. There are long awkward pauses between each strike, wheras a real Jedi should be carving a swath of destruction through dozens of these droids with little effort.
Most of the graphics are poor. Much has been said about the lack of depth cues for those ridiculous jumps. Second that.
The control is just sad. You can't change direction without your character having to do a wide 180º, this causes much difficulty when trying to climb trees by hopping on (cripes) giant toadstools (this is Super Mario!). The aforementioned lack of combo movement and attack style are also upsetting.
There are a few saving graces, playing cooperatively with a friend is cool. It adds a little excitement and feeling of teamwork, one guy backs you up while you run in and waste the droids. The first few times that you deflect a blast right back down the attackers throat you'll be thoroughly impressed with yourself. This looks and feels great. And the CG at the opening is pretty well done also.
Overall, I'd reccomend you rent, not buy this one. Or even better yet just play it with someone who was unfortunate enough to buy this, thus avoiding dropping any money on this waste.
This game needs some help...

Jedi Power Battles is a great game at first glance. The way you can destroy one droid with a killer combo and deflect two blast back to their owners is a definite plus. Also the characters and initial game concept is great. But the game has a few too many flaws...
1)The level geometry is very choppy, I have jumped up onto ledges/obstacles only to fall down and die, merely it seems because of holes in the programming.
2) The save points are way too far apart. Furthermore, the save point always drops you right back into the middle of intense crossfire. Waking up to get your butt kicked is just not cool. And, due to more holes, some bad guys do not reappear until you are standing right in their face.
3)The viewpoint of the game is very odd. Sometimes enemies that are firing at you cannot be seen, and theres nothing you can do about it. Also jumping is nearly impossible with the vantage points they give you. Perhaps a customizable viewpoint would be called for.
All in all this is a fun, but frustratingly poorly made game. It seems to be more another game to sell to Star Wars enthusiasts than an artistic well-made game. Don't waste your time.

Man, can't these LucasArts guy make any good game? For all you gamers out there who's even reading the ... I'm writing about this game: LEAVE THIS GAME AT THE STORE'S SHELF, AND NEVER, NEVER LAY HANDS ON IT. Don't make the same mistake that I did, and that was giving this game a chance. Yeah, yeah, I know you can be a Jedi, and swing a glowing stick around, but it just not worth it... There are a lot of mistakes, and errors in this game, I'm just going to name a few. Please, take it from a man who dared to beat this game three times within a year: #1. Becareful where you're jumping to. If your jumping- destination is too high, try to land your hands on the edge and later pull yourself up. Do not try to jump and land on your feet, even if you made it, the game will somehow freeze, or kill you. #2. When you're ona mission to save someone, lets say, a servant. You might want to follow them, and kill all the droids around the place where they vanished. Or else you will have to start over from the beginning. #3. Not all of your combos, and special moves works. It might work on one enemy, and totally useless on another even though you have enough " force " for it. #4. It's impossible to beat Darth Maul on the Jedi mode using Plo Koon. Yep! this is the game's biggest mistake. You can not beat Darth Maul on Jedi mode using Plo Koon because he is too slooooowwww. Darth Maul is very fast, and he attacks you instantly. Some times, it's impossible for you to get out of his comboes, and with his twin light saber, he is twice more powerful. I hope this is enough reason for you to not buy this game. I hope I convinced you enough.
MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU.
Not worth the effort

I must be a complete gaming idiot, but I'm one of a very few to think that this game should never have been made.
There are a number of reasons. Here are a few:
1) It's SLOOOOOW. On a Playstation 2, which, incidently, is a better gaming platform than the game was originally written for, the graphics frame rate chops and moves freakishly when you enter certain areas with considerable detail, throwing off your timing, and making the game more difficult. I don't know how you guys with Playstation ones played this thing.
2) Who programmed this to force you to finish a lightsaber strike before you can turn around? Even the "throwaway" battle droids can move faster than you can. The combat is like Gauntlet, but in Gauntlet you could fire considerably faster. Here, you're in melee combat, toe to toe with Battle Droids (otherwise known as "cannon fodder") that attack and move faster than you do. Aren't you supposed to be a Jedi? My grandmother, walker and all, moves faster than Obi-Wan does.
3) Jumping is INCREDIBLY difficult. The very first level forces you to jump onto a moving belt that has gaps in it. IF you make it onto the belt, jumping over the gaps is hideously difficult. (Oh, and while you're concentrating on that, battle droids can shoot you out of the air.)
I rented this game at Blockbuster video. I did not purchase it. I'm glad. After three hours of play, I made it to the first boss a few times, beat him a few times, and died immediately therafter making another stupid jump. I finally stopped wasting my time when I realized that it just wasn't any fun.
Go buy Thief 2: The Metal Age and take this one back to the store.
This game stinks!

In this game you are always running around hacking up things with whats supposed to be a lightsaber but looks like a colored stick! The farthest I have gotten is tattooine and I beat the poop out of Darth Maul but then the whole game gets frozen and I cant beat the stupid maggot thing again! I already know you can be darth maul but he is the same as Obi Wan except he looks like Maul and he has a one bladed saber like on Tattooine!
completely and utterly the worst video game ever made EVER

I am a major star wars fan and a gamer. I have liked most sw games but this one i sold for $2 and was very VERY happy. the game starts out vey interesting indeed. you are a jedi and you can kill things, which is fun. the only drawback is that the game sucks after 2 minutes. i dont think that i have ever after seeing 10 people try it (all good gamers) finish the first level. there was something we like to call the "LEAP OF FAITH" whis is in said level. put simply: you cannot do it. ever. in the world. ever. even if god himself is trying to make this game not suck.
Poor game

I'm a huge Star Wars fan, but this is the worst game I have ever played period. I'm not a bad gamer, but couldn't even get passed the first level. It sucked. I sold it to some unfortunate for $2 and was very happy with the money. Yep - it truly stinks. I'm ashamed to say that originally I bought the game in the UK for what worked out to be $45. Oh, and the music and sound fx get on your nerves as well.

If you are looking for a brilliant Star Wars game, you're in the wrong place. This is the worst Star Wars game ever.
Multiplayer is tedious and frustrating, because if one person dies by falling off a cliff, then the screen moves so that the other player is inevitably doomed. This is due to the fact that the producers forgot to make it split-screen.
That's excluding the fact that there is really no fighting/action and that falling off of cliffs is the entire purpose of the game.
There are only ten levels, and rather than making the enemies harder or the action more intense, the producers decided to make more cliffs for you to fall off of! Yipee! And on top of that... there is a little battle droid waiting at the other end of just about every cliff you're supposed to jump over. He shoots you with his blaster when you are almost there, causing you to freeze in mid-air and fall into the abyss you were just jumping over. He is, in the later levels replaced by another droid doing the same exact thing. He's just doing it with a rocket. Brilliant!!!
3D??? This game would be better off 2D, because the position of the camera doesn't follow the player, but moves from one point to another to give you the worst angle possible for any action game.
The combat is limited, because you cannot jump and attack at once, and if you jump over a droid, it is turned around before you are, and ready to shoot you without a moment's delay. Or, if you prefer, it will just shoot you while you are jumping over it, because it always remains on target. This will leave you constantly pressing one button to attack from beginning to end.
As for upgrades and force moves that you aqquire; by level five, you have been given every force move in the game. Yes, I mean it, all three of them. There were more Force moves than that in the Star Wars games for Super Nintendo.
It goes as FAR from the movie as it can without calling itself, "Star Wars; Jedi Cliff Jumping." None of the jedi were ever in a Naboo swamp fighting armies of Gungan's just for the thrill of it. None of the Jedi would have spent their free time jumping from one flying cruiser to another killing random people in Courascant. And not one of the Jedi would have been stupid enough to jump from balcony to balcony to get to the Queen, when it was obviously easier just to use the stairs.
I could go on and on about how much I liked this game, but instead, I'll just list the pros and their corresponding cons.
Pros
1. Co-play
2. No blood
3. Good cheats
4. You get a battle tank
5. You get a STAPP
6. It's challenging
7. You get force moves
8. Based on a Star Wars movie
Cons
1. Co-play sucks
2. Almost no fighting
3. To get cheats you have to perfect the whole thing
4. The battle tank is in just one level
5. You can't ride around in the STAPP
6. It's tedious
7. You master all three Force moves by level 5
8. Doesn't really follow any Star Wars movies
9. Graphics suck
10. No split-screen
11. Only two vehicles
12. Only two weapons (including the grenade)
13. The fighting is boring and tedious
14. It may as well be 2D
15. Your force power is limited
16. And it's just no fun
If you're looking for a Star Wars game for Playstation, "Star Wars Demolition" is pretty cool, and hey, they actually remembered to make that one split-screen.
If you're looking for something with exciting combat on Playstation, keep looking, I'm sure it's out there somewhere.
And finally, if you are looking to conduct an experiment on how long it takes to die of boredom, then this is the game for you.
Sorry to be the naysayer, but this game really sucks.
