I must be a complete gaming idiot, but I'm one of a very few to think that this game should never have been made.
There are a number of reasons. Here are a few:
1) It's SLOOOOOW. On a Playstation 2, which, incidently, is a better gaming platform than the game was originally written for, the graphics frame rate chops and moves freakishly when you enter certain areas with considerable detail, throwing off your timing, and making the game more difficult. I don't know how you guys with Playstation ones played this thing.
2) Who programmed this to force you to finish a lightsaber strike before you can turn around? Even the "throwaway" battle droids can move faster than you can. The combat is like Gauntlet, but in Gauntlet you could fire considerably faster. Here, you're in melee combat, toe to toe with Battle Droids (otherwise known as "cannon fodder") that attack and move faster than you do. Aren't you supposed to be a Jedi? My grandmother, walker and all, moves faster than Obi-Wan does.
3) Jumping is INCREDIBLY difficult. The very first level forces you to jump onto a moving belt that has gaps in it. IF you make it onto the belt, jumping over the gaps is hideously difficult. (Oh, and while you're concentrating on that, battle droids can shoot you out of the air.)
I rented this game at Blockbuster video. I did not purchase it. I'm glad. After three hours of play, I made it to the first boss a few times, beat him a few times, and died immediately therafter making another stupid jump. I finally stopped wasting my time when I realized that it just wasn't any fun.
Go buy Thief 2: The Metal Age and take this one back to the store.

Who wouldn't want to be a Jedi? They're fast, they get a lightsabre, and (according to my sister) if they're Obi-Wan, they are really hot. This game lets you do all those things. (And you can be Obi-Wan.) Prepare to numb your brain while slashin' battle droids, catepillars, green assasins, and Gungans (but you can't kill those!) This game loosly follows the plot of the movie, which means: the story sucks. But, there's something really fun about blowing your partner up ... (Yes, you can mess up Qui-Gon!) The game gets a little monotonous after the first few leves, but for some reason, you...just...can't...stop...playing. The only way my sister and I made it through is by making up jokes about pretty much everything. Example...BEAN BOY, BEAN! (I'll explain later.) The graphics are pretty much ok but are hard to see because the camera is so far away from your character. (And Obi-Wan has a uni-brow... ...!) The sound is the best part, complete with the vrrrrrrr lightsabre noise and Jedi death sounds, however humerous they may be. (Example..."Ug" or "Aaiii!") The controls are the basic kind for this kind of game. After you play some incredibly boring levels, you'll pick up some sweet combos that you just wanna use on the droids. The problems with this game are that you sometimes just randomly freeze up and die, the camera angle (which can be a real problem in two player mode) TOO MANY ... JUMPS and the fact that those battle droids can block your lightsabre. Now I'm no Star Wars genuis, but last time I saw the movies, NOTHING COULD BLOCK A ... SABRE! (except another sabre of course). After each level, you'll encounter some freakishly weird creatures. (Example... fume-spewing caterpiller and a horned toad bent on your demise.) On the Courascant level, there are weird dudes (including the wolf-man) who spout insane comments like "Yamma chi ya!" "Un u mambo Jedi!" "Yon Ton Chuba!" Now I'm no linguist, but I don't know if i should be offended by that or not. And in the final level, Darth Maul has a bent lightsabre, along with weird powers that he does not have in the movie. But you have powers too. Beside your sabre, each character starts out with a force power, including a mad dash, a keep-away move, an energy beam, a hypmotizing move, and a sabre shield. You get more powers as you progress through the game, although they are only fireflies, and therefore not as cool. About the "Bean boy, bean" thing...Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, and Mace get thermal detonators to throw at droids when they sabres run out of batteries. (Just kidding bout the batteries.) In two-player mode, when one player throws one of these little bundles of joy at another player, trying to kill the droids that are near the player, you CAN KILL YOUR PARTNER! To avoid this, my sister had an idea: instead of saying "Lookout" or "Fire in the hole" to warn the other player of a detonator attack, she chose "BEAN!" And the "boy" part was from our incredibly repetitive joking of how old and slow Qui-Gon really is. To sum it all off: this game is great for two players who are at least a little bit a Star Wars Fan (or think that Ewan McGregor is hot...ahem...my sister). However, if Anakin ... you off, you can kill him too, so its all good. Everyone else....YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!
Awesome

Man, at first I wasn't sure about this game, but it was so cool!!Especially if you like a fighting game it will definently tickle your fancy. You can play as 5 different jedis encluding Plo Koon and Mace Windu!!Its only based on Episode One,though, so you only fight the trade federation army which is one downside of the game. But I definently recommend this game to any Star Wars fan of any age.And a bonus when you beat the game with Obi Wan Kenobi you can play as Darth Maul!!
Awsome game

I think Jedi Power Battles is a great for Star wars fans. The gameplay is pretty good and the sounds are just like the movie , and you can choose between 5 players whitch are Adi Gali,Mace Windu,Obi Wan Kenobi,Qui-Gon Jinn, and Plo Koon. They all have special force moves and their own combos. A feature that i like is the 2 player campaign mode because you and your friend[s] can work together to beat the game ,but you have to stay close together on the screen or you will probably die. The graphics aren't the best but they are pretty good considering that they are for PSX. Unfortunatly this game is Very repeative. I would say that if you like Star Wars and lightsabres than you will like Jedi Power Battles.

JPB is very exicting and fun, But it is also hard. I got this game three days ago and me and my brother who is 10 have'nt beat the first level yet,But we are workin on it. I also Like the Characters. I think every one of them is cool. I mean, they all have there own uninque moves, Like Mace Windu's Lightsaber Shield or Plo Koon's Cyclone Spin (just To Name a few). This game has many surprises And I Can't wait To See them all, Oh What The Heck, I GO PLAY RIGHT NOW !!!:)

Do you think you have the skill to save naboo from the trade federation. To bring anakein to the council and escape the mercenaries. And to defeat the powerful Sith Lord. Then this is the fight for you. Choose from 5 Jed Masters, Knights, padawans and even a sith Lord. This game is very challenging and no type in cheats.
Nice sword play ....

Id say this was the best game ever for dreamcast because the dreamcast graphics far outstrip the poor playstation ones. If you only have playstation, the best thing to do is get it used and at a cheap price. It is almost the funnest for playstation. The only drawback for thjis game is not that its too hard or that its too easy. Its the graphics. i would still suggest getting the game. the bad graphics do not take any of the fun away from the gameplay and fun. ive always wanted to deflect lasers and slash droids with a lightsaber. this game satisfies my deepest wishes with challenges but not so immpossible that it makes it tedios and not fun. this is the best game lucasarts has ever made. for computer or a platform.
PROs:
EVRYTHING
7 or so jedi to choose from
new moves as you move on
new uniqe levels
3d
challenging but not too much so
get to drive a droid veichle
best ever
CONs:
ONLY THE GRAPHICS
if you have dreamcast, dont even think about getting it for playstation. if only they made it for playstation 2 or gamcube or somthing.
OVERALL: A MUST GET, AWSOME!
you should still definetly get it if you dont have dreamcast
Difficult but good.

This arcade mode, action game has some of the coolest sequences yet as you slash your way through the trade fedoration ship, speed your way through Naboo, wrestle your way through Tatooin, and blow your way through Coroscant plus much more, this game practically has it all with hidden mini games at the end.
But there are some parts about it where in a way it doesn't even out, such as when you can play the game as Darth Maul, his lightsaber is only one sided so you don't get the double ended lightsaber you wish you had so you can't tell which one is which at the end of the Tatooin level.
And is it just me or is it practically impossible to beat the game as Plo Koon, Darth Maul is a lot harder on him at the end than he is any other Jedi and at times he doesn't even give you a chance to get up. I still have yet to beat the game as Plo Koon. It's pretty hard doing so without losing your tempre that the creaters aren't being fair, it doesn't look like it the Plo Koon version of the game was even tested. As for everything however, enjoy it.
