Star Wars: Jedi Power Battles

Star Wars. What more needs to be said. Well, maybe a little should be said. Like the fact that other Star Wars games on the psx were really disappointing. Now, close your eyes, and imagine no other Star Wars title has ever been made for the little grey box. Got it? Good. 'Cause this game is great. If ever as a child (or as a cool adult) you have wanted frenzied lightsabre combat like in the movies, now is your time. Jedi Power Battles takes an old concept (Super Star Wars on the NES) and brings it to the next level. With stunning locations that mirror the movie, and a wonderful soundtrack, this is the best Star Wars experience thus far. Ok, so there is a slight drawback, but I feel it is a plus. The difficulty is a high factor, but if it was a breeze to beat, what would the point be? Sure hoardes of robotic enemies are waiting to pounce on you around every corner. But you are jedi,(resist the dark side, hmm?) and jedi rely on the force as thier ally. No robot could weild the force as jedi do. Stand up, clear your mind, and cut those stupid robots to shreds with your sizzling electric sword. Call on the force (or dark side if you go that way), and unleash a barrage of sword attacks in 360 degrees, disorient your feeble minded enemies, and use a force push to escape certain death. And if you are bad enough...(yeah! yeah!) I mean good enough, you too can have an awsome lightsabre death-duel with that dearly departed baddie, Darth Maul! Final thoughts: Impressive.. Had read some decent previews about this game, comparing it to Gauntlet and the likes. Unfortunately it didn't live up to my expectations. It was great to be back in the world of Star Wars, but the graphics are quite inferior to what you would expect from Lucas and even sub-par for any game with the Playstation technology. The characters abilities are very limited at best. The concept of using a light saber is very intriguing, but when it gets down to it, shooting would be a lot more fun and the light saber is very limited in what it can do. Slash, Slash, Slash. In addition, movement in general is stilted. I played this game on "easy" mode for about ten minutes and decided to play one of my old sword-weilding games, MediEval and had a lot more fun and enjoyed the graphics ten fold. The only reason I give this game two stars is because it carries the Star Wars name. Good luck and may the force be with you.

I just bought Star Wars:JPB and it's a fast paced exciting action game. The only problem i have with the game is some of the controls. This is a great buy and will give hours upon hours of fun to action game lovers! Highly Recommend!

I'm a big star wars fan (and who isn't). So naturallly, I was excited to hear about this game. I liked the concept and looked forward to playing it. Unfortunately, I got much less than what I bargained for. First, the graphics are kinda shabby. The scenery gets in the way of the gameplay (especially jumping, which there is a lot of), and the animations of attacks often leave your player prone to damage. Second, the control is subpar. It is difficult to move your character with any kind of precision and the lock-on target mode is quite pathetic. Third, the game is extremely repetitive. While being able to build up your jedi's abilities is a nice feature, the hack-and-slash gameplay grows stale in a dissappointingly short time. For non-star wars fans, there are other action games out there that please tons more than power battles. For star wars fans, you should definitely think about a rental before purchase. In fact, the only reason I gave the game two stars instead of one is because I am quite a fan myself. Unfortunately, this game does not emulate the spectacular saga. Fellow star wars fans, we can only trust in the Force that we might someday play a game that can live up to the film's prestige.

No one looked forward to this like I did. And when I finally got my hands on it it was a bit of a let down, but that was just at first. The game is great and once you get the hang of the controls you are sure to kick some tail.

The jumping from platform to platfrom can be a royal pain in the @ss but so far I have manged to keep from force pushing my PSX off the TV so its not all that bad.

The combo moves are cool and effective but the droids can be numours at times. Each charater does play differently and not just look different which is very good.

Overall this game is HOT the graphics could use some work but I would assume this is due to the speed of the game. I would much rather give up graphics than frame rates. All of those who hate the game did not give it a chance. You have to learn how to move and control your character and learn their moves in order to truly enjoy the game. Cause once you learn the controls and how to defend and DEFLECT then you can destroy!

The Force will be with you always..... (PS DEFLECT is caped for a reason)

The fighting is fun, but the controls couldn't possibly be any harder. I've never played an impossible game to beat. The controls on this game make it impossible, though. Moreover, the graphics and music are dull and substandard. Save your money.

I just got this game and I think it is great. I think the 2 player mode is awsome. Why wouldn't you like to go chop down some droids with a freind? I think it is really cool how you can pick your own charachter. If your a Star Wars fan then you will love this game

Man, can't the gamemakers at LucasArts ever make a decent game? After the fiasco with the first two games from the Phantom Menace, you would think George Lucas would have fired everyone and hired people who knew how to make good games. Judging by Jedi Power Battles, George Lucas is going for 0 and 3.

Let's start with the good things about the game. First, you can be a Jedi - that's damn cool. Second, you can destroy alot of stuff with a lightsaber, and you have several months. Instead of just swinging it like a blinded yalasmir, you have a variety of real sword moves. Each character (5 available) has unique fighting combos, sorta like Street Fighter. Also you can play 2 players simultaneously.

Now let's go to the bad. First, it's hard. Even at the easy setting, you'll easily die with minutes. Why? Because of the shoddy controls! Apparently Jedis cannot stop and turn around. When you're are running, and a droid comes out of nowhere from behind you, if you move the joystick to the other direction, your character will actually run in a giant circle. It's like he's a car with a 40 ft turning radius! And the worst part is by the time your charcter does a 180, the droids, who've been chasing you the whole time, are now behind you!

You can lock on your enemy by holding down the R1 button, but this feature is useless if you're taking on 3 or more enemies at one time. While you're fighting one enemy, the others will continually shoot you in the back. Then while you're fighting enemy #2, the rest will, yep, you guess it, shoot you in the back.

Then whenever your Jedi does a sword combo, the animation takes so long that droids can run up behind you and shoot you (again, in the back) while you're still doing some lame parry-stab-parry-jump combo.

And whenever you die, instead of restarting where you left off, you restart several screens back, and the same enemies are there also! In the very first level, you'll have to kill several droids, do some jumping (if you miss you die), and then fight a giant robot that continually rams you. If that robot kills you, you continue way back in the beginning, before the jumping, and restart the same droid that had just killed 30 seconds ago! And to make it worse, you only have 5 lives in the entire game, regardless if you're playing by yourself or with a friend. 5 lives for 2 players in a game where enemies constantly shoot you in the back and unnecessary jumping tests is simply not enough,

This is the sort of game you expect from a fledging new company that 1) doesn't have the resources to make a high quality game, or 2) know any better. LucasArts, however, has the money, expertise, resource, etc. to make great games. My Jedi powers tell me that Jedi Power Battles was rushed in development and testing so it could be released in early April, which coincidently enough, is the release date of Star Wars Phantom Menace on VHS.

I like it, Not love or hate....Like it!

When I first heard of the concept of this game, being able to take control of the Jedi and go ballistic with a lightsaber, I was happy and felt glad to own a Playstation. I purchased the game this past week and have been playing it as much as possible ever since. Well, here's my two cents: First I'll start with the Pro's. The graphics were pretty decent and the soundtrack is straight out of the movie. For me the game is also pretty challenging, granted I'm also on the easy setting. The gameplay is fun and all, but....this begins to lead me to the Con's of this game which unfortunatly overpower the pro's. The graphics, which are pretty dazzling at times, can also become really really grainy and very difficult to see your character at times. The soundtrack music and few of the Sound FX were very good, but a few of the FX are really downright annoying and confuse me too much. The Jedi you have to choose from are really diverse except, I've really only had any luck fighting with just one of the Jedi. It seems to me that the people that made this game didn't want to call it the Mace Windu game so they added some more faces. The gameplay also gets a bit boring as you slice battle droid after battle droid. They have designed some new characters and villians for the game but sometimes they come too little too late. I think the one thing that bugs me the most about the game is the use of the SAME EXACT PREMISE as used in The Phantom Menace! I would think that lucasarts could've came up with another storyline for us to take the Jedi Knights on. Well, that about wraps it up for me. If you enjoy every Star Wars game ever made then you'll enjoy this one. If you are expecting the best game ever to grace the Jedi Knights, look into Dark Forces II.
