This game is unbelieveably good. I really cant stress ehough how wonderful this game is. For its time it was Fantastic, and compared to the RPG's of today it is still right toward the top. The compelling story line, the wonderful characters and the music...the music in this game is so rich that you can really listen to the songs over and over and not get sick of them. The gameplay is fantastic. I cant stress enough how wonderful a game this really is. If you have a PS, PS2 or were smart enough to hang on to your SNES it is absolutly worth the price. This game will leave you wanting to play it again and again.
A Classic forever

~If you have not played this classic, then barring illegal actions, definitely get this game. Why?
If you new to RPGs then this is a fun and easy to understand game (in terms of both control and story) that is not very difficult and does not involve tedious "level building" essensial to most other RPG classics.
If you are familiar with RPGs then you wouldn't want to miss one of the (the in my opinion) best RPG game. Let's look at each component of the game:
Graphics: nothing compared~~ to todays 3D graphics and FMVs. But one of the best 2D graphic games. The characters are beautifully animated, something that can never be realized in a 3D game. Special effects are not going to be awe inspiring but they are sptacular nevertheless. The world map is considered one of the best.
Music: The best. Although there won't be any lyrics since this is pre-PS, the melodies are the best. I would highly recommand getting the soundtrack. Many beautiful music are in my playlist and they~~ remind me of the wonderful moments in the game.
Character: All seven playble characters have rich backgrounds. I don't want to spoil it but inevitably you will find yourself attached to some if not all of the charachers.
Story: Superb. It will not be as confusing as most final fantasy games (or movies). The story is pretty straight forward yet very well developed. Plenty of twists that engage the gamer yet unconfusing. The game is also very logical and thus believable, you won't be asking~~ yourself "how come (s)he's so stupid?" in this game. Although the depth of the main plot is not as great as others such as FFVI,FFVII,FFX, the best part about this game is secondary story and history. Even side charachters such as Cyrus or Schala begs sympathy, not to mention other playable charachters. The theme of time travel for the story is also extremely well polished, with a deep history. The time issue is eventually explained clearly.
Gameplay: The time travel as forementioned is~~ great, the battle system is innovative and untedious. Double and Triple techs is probably the best feature that should be included in other RPGs. You will not find as many sidegames as the FF series that require countless hours, yet there are enough optional quests to satisfy any gamer. One of the best gameplays ever.~

CT is the single best RPG experience you will likely ever find. The battle system is fun and enjoyable, no random battles, you lear tech moves which allow you to perform special attacks on enemies, the soundtrack rules, the graphics are awesome (2D is best), the characters are actually well rounded and memorable, and the story is intricate yet easy to follow and involves time travel obviously. The character designs are done by Akira Toriyama from DBZ fame.
Look be honest, in a game that spans 40+ hours the likely hood of you playing it again and again is uncommon. This game can be beaten at anytime! You can go to the last boss very soon after you start the game if you feel inclined to die a horrible painfil death. But you will honestly WANT to play this game over and over because it is fun! There are 13 different endings depending on how you do certain things, plus an unlockable character, and new game plus opens when you beat the game. New game plus allows you to take all your equipment and levels and XP etc. into the game from the beginning minus plot weapons like the Masemune sword for Frog. You should be well into at least LVL 30+ by the end of the game but the max level is ** (star star), each of your stats also have individual maximums of **. You reach lvl ** after lvl 99. It's fun going back through the game at such high levels and using the weakest weapons/armor.
Find it, buy it.

This is the best 2D RPG I have ever played, the best 2D game I have ever played, and one of the best RPG's of all time. If you don't like RPG's or shun 2D games, stop reading this. If you do like good ol' 2D games like this one, then, you shouldn't be reading this either. You should be buying this game right now. I ...[mean you]! The gameplay is awesome, with special elements, dual techs, and triple techs. The characters are well developed, and you can get a few bonus characters too, (like magus), if you do the right things. This Game has a lot of great secrets, and is the perfect balance between hard and easy: challenging, but not too challenging. The storyline, is cool, as it focuses on time travel, and the things you do in the past affect the future. So, if your still reading this, STOP! BUY IT ...[now]!...

i first started playing this game in second or third grade. i got to the very end, but could never beat it. now im in 8th grade and i have beat it. but anyway i still love playing this game after all those years! Chrono Trigger and Zelda, and final fantasy started the RPG games in a way. But Chrono trigger was my favirote. the story line is totally unmatched and probably no RPG game could ever match Chrono Trigger. Few games come close, like FF and Zelda but they in my poinion are not as good as this game. the price is more then any new PS2 XBox or gamecube game, but it is definitly worth the money. you will never want to stop playing this game. If you are a true RPG fan you will buy this game and beat it!!

For one thing if possible i would have given this game more stars.
Story-10/10 The story was great I could never predict was what to come next. The story was intresting and believe me or not it also had 13 diffrent endings. This story kept me intrested to the very end.
Control- 9/10 yes I know for all you CT fans it (should) have been higher and i know that but its not the games fault more or less the snes controller. The layout is fine i still thought it to be a little sketchy.
gameplay- 10/10 downright the best battle engine ever with multiple (combined) attacks you will be very pleased.
sound-10-10 love it i still cant get the 600ad song out of my head i even bought the 50 dollar music cd to this game.
replay 10/10 with 13 diffrent endings and and new game option
after you beat the game this will be a game to play for years to come.
graphics 8/10 realy good graphics for a snes game and nice effects when traveling though time.
overall 11/10 there is only one way to put this one of maybe even the best game of all time.
Among the Greatest RPG's of All-Time

In the Pantheon of great SNES RPG's (including, but not limited to, FFIV, FFVI, A Link to the Past), Chrono Trigger will forever hold a place near the top. The story, although not earth-shattering, is engaging from the beginning of the game right until the end. Anyone who has played any of the Final Fantasy or Dragon Warrior games has experienced the occasional frustration of having to deal with a multiplicity of random battles, and fortunately CT implements an innovative fighting system that has the enemies appear on screen in front of you before the battle actually begins. Also many of the battles can actually be avoided by simply evading the enemy characters, which detracts from the the level of frustration and tedium, and really adds to the enjoyment of the game.
The soundtrack of the game comes close, and maybe in some cases even compares to the hallowed ground reached by Nobuo Uematsu in many of the Final Fantasy games, a plateau that would probably place the sountrack of the game among the greatest ever created. Aside from being an immensely playable and engaging experience, CT does not take itself too seriously, a significant point in an age where every other RPG that hits the market either slams the player with moral dilemmas or forces him/her to examine his/her own ethical codes.
If you are remotely interested in RPG's, I would strongly suggest that you pick up a copy of Chrono Trigger, either by purchasing this original SNES game, or by getting the PSX title Final Fantasy Chronicles, which includes the game along with FFIV. In Chrono Trigger, Square created another masterful RPG that simply cannot be misssed by any self-respecting fan.
ALMOST PERFECT

To many, Chrono Trigger is the best RPG ever made. I'd say it's as good as Final Fantasy 6 or 7, but not better. Although I rate it 5 stars, 4.5 stars is closer to it. It all has to do with the final ending boss--Lavos--and his three forms. In my opinion, Lavos is right up there with Kefka and Sephiroth, but Lavos isn't human, so that makes him the best non-human antagonist ever seen in a game. Lavos first appears as a porcupine-like creature. His eerie scream is as good as Kefka's laugh, too. After defeating the Lavos shell, you go inside and fight the machine part of Lavos. Looks okay, but not great. You beat that, then fight the last version of Lavos--the vegetable-looking version. He doesn't look evil, nor does he look good. So it's awful hard to hate him. The background effect is okay, but sorta annoying, and the music at that point is bland. But that's the only problem that I have with the game--the final ending boss. Everything preceding that is top-notch Squaresoft. The storyline is really great on this game. My favorite parts are: Chrono's Trial (as good as the opera scene in FF6), the Future (especially the bike race against that Prince-like guy), the Battle against Magus in his castle is especially awesome because the music fits in so PERFECTLY with the battle. The little movie scene showing Lavos falling to earth is also a joy to see. There are ten endings to this game and many sidequests. Tough luck finding a good copy of it now, but you can get it on emulator, which is almost as good.
