Great War Game!!!

I picked up this game and perfect dark zero after spending $700 on ebay to get an xbox 360. I can't say that it was worth the cash to play this game but its a great war game. I don't have an HD TV but I'm sure it must look great on it because it looks sweet on my regular tv. The game plays so smooth that it took my a little time to get used to it. The sound is also AMAZING!!!!! If you have surround sound you are going to love this game. Especially when you walk into an ambush and you can hear the gun fire surrounding you. Bullets wizz past your ear, you return fire and then toss a grenade into a nearby house, BOOM!, enemy soldiers go flying, then the ground shakes as a tank rolls into the scene and fires its cannon. Its just AWESOME! It made me really feel like I was there. I would give it 5 stars if it was an offline experience and it was a little longer but the online experience is horid at best. It was obviously rushed and I doubt I will play it online again. The online options are primitive at best and the lag is insane. Its not my connection either. I've played many games without a problem. Perfect Dark Zero seems to run perfectly. But the lag in this game makes it unplayable. Its so bad that you literly cannot play. its like the screen is showing you what happened 20 seconds ago and your guy starts gittering back and forth until you turn the game off. They should have worked more on the online portion and made it available for download when they got it right.

It takes some getting used to but then it really starts going...

I love the FPS genre. There's just something about running around and blowing things away that relieves the day's stress. That said, if you're new to the CoD games like I was then there's some adjustment to be had. It's not a straight run and gun kind of game. For one, varying degrees of movement and strategy are required to get at your enemies without getting taken out. Second, if you're used to a plasma gun with 400 rounds then the frequent reloading of historical weapons will take some getting used to. But all this adds to the great interface, graphics, and especially storyline of this great game. I can't wait for Call of Duty 3!

Review of Xbox Live features of this game...

First, the gameplay in Xbox live is excellent. No major glitches and shots are realistic based on the weapon you choose. You can literally pick any gun and get good with it on any level.

Now, for the bad. This game needs an Xbox Live patch BAD!!

Apparently Activision wasn't aware that Xbox live exists until a couple weeks before they released this game :)

If you are interested in playing mainly the online version of this game I would recommend holding off until/if they upgrade the live gameplay for the following reasons:

1. The host is apparently chosen by random so most games lag really bad.

2. When you are with a good host, you can only play in the one round and then the game shuts down and you have to go find another host. There is no option for a host to set up a room and continually host games. After each game, the room closes down and must be re-setup. I have a business internet connection and can host maximum number of players without lag but there is no option for me to establish myself as host. I may randomly get selected only if there is not another room already set up to join.

3. There is really no point of a friends list in this game. I enjoy playing with friends. However, since every room is shut down at the end of a round, it's pretty much impossible to play with the same group of people for more than one round at a time. After the round you are stuck trying to find another game with no lag (about 1 in 3 have no lag) then invite your friends in (if there is room) only to have the room close down again after the round. Then try to keep your sanity and repeat the steps above. Seriously, I only get about 10 good minutes of game play for every 30 minutes I spend trying to find a room

4. There is a VERY ANNOYING issue with trying to reconnect to a new game if you leave a game in progress. I routinely get a "Cannot Connect" error for about 5 minutes after leaving a game. I don't want to leave games but have to due to heavy lag. Very frustrating.

5. About 1 game in 10 I get connected to the WRONG GAME FORMAT. I'll choose to play a Team Deathmatch and get connected to a Capture the Flag game.

Finally - if you are not interested in Xbox Live, this is an AWESOME game. However, if you are, it appears Activision did not do their homework prior to releasing this game to determine the standard features that gamers like when playing live.

One of the first Must-Have titles for Xbox 360.

I've played many a WWII shooter, but none have the graphic punch that CoD2 has. The levels are well-designed and challenging, and the realistic combat model (i.e., you can't just shrug off machine gun fire--nobody's bulletproof) makes for an intense, nerve-wracking experience, especially in online play. My fiancee and I had an hour-long sniper battle last night that had to be the coolest gaming session I've had since the early fun days of Halo 2 (before all the cheats and ten-year old whiners overran it.)

Graphically, CoD2 is unparalleled, as you'd expect from the 360. Gameplay is smooth and fluid, even with multiple enemies and teammates all blazing away in a flat-out firefight. Sound quality is excellent, in Dolby Digital 5.1 the bullets seem to whiz right by your ear.

Whenever I want to show off my 360, this is the first game I'll reach for. It's that good.

Played Demo, Worthy Title!

Let me state first of all that I have played tons of first person shooters from Counter Strike on the PC, to Ghost Recon 2: Summit Strike on the Xbox. This game literally blew me away when playing it on the HD television it was attached to. I couldn't get enough of it. It has superior graphics, superior sound, and the game is exceptionally smooth. I was going to put off my purchase of the 360 until Ghost Recon 3 was launched in February, but after playing this game, those plans are out the window. I will be waiting in line Monday night to pick up my box and this game, if I don't find the game on sale sooner. This game is a MUST have when buying your new Xbox 360.

My Goodness

This is one of the best games out there to date
The best console shooter though.
If you want a good, kind of free forming shooter, get this
but if you want an extremely strategic and realistic shooter, get brothers in arms

simply OUT-STANDING...

I'm not a "gamer" folks and hopefully will never claim to be, but this game, in my book anyway, has to go down as simply one of the best that I've ever played.

The story is pure (true to the subject) and when showing it to a history buff Major of mine in the U.S. Army he was amazed at the ability to almost relive some of the most brutal and amazing battles that have ever takin place.

From a young Russian sharpshooter to a tank-commander to a british line-man to a U.S. Infantry Cpl., this game and its' story takes you through the War.

The graphics are exceptional and I'm saying this even though being stationed in Korea I am unable to play on my high def plasma screen. I honestly can't wait to see this thing on that coupled with my surround sound speakers. It's actually the ONLY game that I would recommend so far (I own Ridge Racer6, Madden 2006 and NBA Live 2006) that I would say warrants the 60 dollar price tag.

The online play may be a bit suspect right now (but keep in mind that only like 100 other people in the world own the system right now) but that's bound to be fixed in the near future.

I CAN say that one of my measures of ANY game at this point (keep in mind, that I'm NOT a "gamer") is that if I actually am able to "beat" a game that I should feel somewhat disappointed. With that in mind, I can assure you that if/when you complete everything in this game you will wish that the story would JUST KEEP GOING...

If you're looking for a fun shooter, with some real-life attributes, mixed with a lot of "WoW moments" - this is the game you're looking for.

It really is just that good.

There's not much else you need to say about Call of Duty 2, except that it's just really good.

Graphics: Splendid. The guns look great, the locales are highly detailed, and everything down to the stubble on a teammate's face looks great. Especially to note is the framerate- the game basically never slows down, no matter how many people are on screen (read: dozens of baddies storming your position), and no matter how many smoke grenades they're lobbing around. Speaking of which, CoD2 officially has the most amazing smoke effects in any game I've ever played. Ever. Firefights as you stumble through smoke and strain to determine whether the shadow ahead of you is friend or foe are both bewildering and incredibly rewarding, and it's something all gamers should try out at least once.

Sound: Assuming you have at least a basic stereo setup, you'll quickly find yourself locating snipers by where their gunfire is coming from on an audio level. Teammates yell out comments that range from the comedical to the incredibly helpful, and enemy soldiers yell an appropriate amount of near-gibberish as you cut into their ranks. With a full surround setup, you might find yourself ducking under invisible bullets mid-battle as you hear them slice the air above you. Again, amazing.

Gameplay: Are we seeing a pattern? Everything here is brilliantly done. Everything in CoD2 is available at the touch of a button. Helpful reminder text frequently keeps you up-to-date in case you forget a button, and it never gets in the way of a battle. All of the weapons feel "right" when wielded, and everything down to the Halo-inspired health system just works. Some gamers criticize the move to the "regenerating" system (stand clear of fire for a while and you'll go back to full health), but I'm personally glad I'll never have to hunt down health packs.

Now where are the problems? As said, some people are a bit miffed at the lack of 16-player Xbox Live, or at the lack of custom games... personally, I'm still a fan of hauling my system to a friend's house and playing a System Link game. Link play has the full 16 players, custom gametypes, and so on. And for anyone maddened by the difficulty, the game has settings from extremely easy (Recruit) to nearly impossible (Veteran). On the highest difficulty, you get a full appreciation for just how impossible survival would seem for a real soldier in a war. On the easiest, your body will soak up a dozen rounds from a machinegun and keep on ticking. The final note is that, while CoD2's Campain mode is pretty short (~10 hours on standard difficulty), every single moment of it is comprised of some of the best gaming ever seen on a console. Perhaps it's quality over quantity, although some gamers will be understandably turned off by the short duration.

Call of Duty 2 has emerged as the "flagship" title of the Xbox 360 launch, and for good reason. It's not that anything about this game is that new or inventive- most of this has been done before. But like Halo was for Xbox, originality isn't the key here. The reason this game is so succesful is because all of its features are integrated so well into one intensely succesful experience. If you own a 360, and you like shooters at all, there's no reason at all not to own Call of Duty 2 (unless you plan on petitioning for 16-player Live before you buy). It's just that good.

A FPS That Actually Makes Me Sweat

I have played Call of Duty 2 through and through. I have unlocked all the achievements and now I feel kind of sad. I want more. This game is simply fantastic, from the graphics to the gameplay. I actually felt like I was thrown back in time to fight the Nazi. Fire fights and be intense, since enemy units are not retarded. They will use cover effectivly and will even try and get better postioning on you. It may seem like no big deal but game developers have been promising smart AI for years and never deleviring until now.

I unfortunitly do not have the ability to play on Xbox Live so the muliplayer is very limited for me... what I have play is fantastic. Its not ground breaking and the lack of vehicles is kind of crappy... but no big deal.

Okay... if you have an Xbox 360 you might as well get this game. Its the best I have played so far.

Tons of fun, stands up to the newer games still!!

I'll try not to repeat too much of what has already been said about this game and get right to the point:

This is without a doubt one of the best made for multiplayer FPS (first person shooter) games ever made for online "live" gaming with other players.

Why? Because:

- The controls are simplistic enough for anyone to learn. There are no complicated button combinations to remember, and you don't need to spend 50 hours studying it just to choose how you want to enter a game.

- The multiplayer interface on Xbox Live is perfect as far as I'm concerned - it's fast (there are no long waits for finding servers, no long load-times), and it is simple / straight-forward.

- There is a certain level of realism to it's action-packed feel. While it might not reach the depths of realism as it's predecessor (CoD3) or other newer games, it's still got plenty to get you caught up in the game. Nearby grenades will blur your vision and make your ears whistle, sniping requires good accuracy (and even makes you take/hold a breath to steady your scope before firing off a long shot), and the sounds give you a good sense of your surroundings / location of other players around you.

I have several new games, such as Gears of War and Call of Duty 3 (both of which are awesome!), but when it comes to jumping into a live match online quickly and just downright fun, CoD2 still takes the cake and I find myself still popping the disc into my Xbox for hours after only playing the other mentioned titles for a little while.

CoD2's controls are much more intuitive than the CoD3, Gears, and others, and the in-game action is much easier to master than those as well. This makes it more fun, less frustration, and you don't have to be a gaming expert to get in there & enjoy it.

By all means, get the other great titles like Gears and CoD3 etc..., but do yourself a big favor and add this one to your collection, you won't be sorry!
