This game blows- pure and simple. First off the AI is the worst i have ever seen in a game. Militia will take cover from your fire, ducking and putting thier heads down. as they do this they will wander into your line of fire and be cut down. Clipping errors are rampant, when you get close to an allied unit your point of view shakes wildly- you get stuck on walls alot too. The graphics are artrocious, and its not my computer- I have a 2.8 ghz p4, 512 RAM and a radeon 9700. when they are at max, faces look cartoony, the animations look stilted and the textures are horrible. The levels are also horribly designed, like they only have two types of levels to play in this game: the first involves you going into a building, killing everyone in it then leaving. The second is where you sit in a building killing everyone that tries to attack...
Best yet in the Delta Force series

I strongly suggest that you grab the beta version or the demo when it comes out to see for yourself just how much fun this game is. If the screenshots from E3 are any indication of the stunning graphics and playability that we are in for, this game will blow any other war simulator out of the water. Imagine the thrill of being a door gunner for a blackhawk, mowing down everything below you, or manuevering your way through the streets of Mogadishu in a humvee. I gotta say, I can't wait for this game to arrive on my doorstep!

Having finished DF:BHD, I'm glad to say that this was every bit the game I'd been hoping for. The demos were very impressive, but they really hold nothing on the rest of the game. This game literally puts you into the middle of a warzone; friendlies and enemies everywhere, helicopters flying overhead, dust kicking up with every bullet and spin of helicopter rotors, radios abuzz with almost continuous chatter, the list goes on and on. The levels are huge, and look straight like something out of a third-world country, and objectives are many and varied.
The team at Novalogic did an amazing job on the levels themselves. There are so many memorable moments throughout, like the "Irene" mission, where you ride an MH-6 all the way from your base to the Olympic hotel. As you move over the hills into the city, the air fills with gunfire, explosions and radio chatter. Civilians run through the streets as militia fire RPG's and AK-47's at you. And this is all before the mission really begins. There are so many other amazing moments throughout the game.
Not to say that there are a few problems. I had some slowdown on my system while in vehicles. This wasn't as much of a problem during groundfighting, though. Also, the game was a bit too short. This is tempered however, by the multiplayer and the fact that you'll want to play the single player missions many more times.
And don't listen to those who complain about the moronic AI. True, the enemy AI isn't very good, but it's not supposed to be. The militia that the special forces troops fought in '93 weren't exactly skilled marksmen, nor were they particularly brave. There advantage came in their numbers, which the game makers illustrate here. Throughout the fifteen missions, you'll literally fight thousands of enemies. The team AI is pretty good, and I don't get where reviewers say it's bad, too. In playing the game, my AI-controlled buddies took out plenty of enemies.
And lastly, those who say this is like Serious Sam or some mindless shooter: Try running out into the middle of a clearing, surrounded by about twenty guys here and see what happens. You'll get cut down fast. The only way I was able to beat the game was by moving slowly, leaning around corners to shoot, and doing my best to find cover. While it isn't as tactical as Rainbow Six, it's far from being a mindless shooter.
This is, by far, the best Delta Force game so far. I've only read two reviews from major websites so far: one where BHD got an 8.9, while another gave it a 5.4 or something. Trust me, believe the 8.9, not the 5.4.

Delta Force Black Hawk Down Provides you with an in depth gaming experence of the war in Somalia in 1993. Its graphics are great and the gameplay is better. It allows you to ride in Black Hawks and Humvees and man their weapons. Also you can provide cover fire from little birds in some missions. Although the missions can sometimes be challenging at first once you get the hang of it, the game becomes even more fun. The room clearing ability is amazing and the ai is good even though sometimes it falters and you can walk up to someone and just shoot them without them firing back. I do think that driveable vehicles would be a very nice addition to the game and make it a little more interesting. I have always been a fan of the Delta Force Series and Novalogic brand and I believe this game is a must own for anyone who enjoys a fun FPS with good graphics. It is by far the best Delta Force and is a definite own for anyone who likes the movie Balck Hawk Down.
Better than previous DF games - but that isn't saying much

BHD was supposed to be Novalogics entry into the 'real' FPS arena. Unfortunately, it simply took outstanding grahics and a recognizable subject matter (the book and movie BHD) and cobbled it together with some of the same old AI problems and short-sighted features.
First, the AI -
You highly trained Delta Force and ranger operators have a hard time hitting things 3 feet away - fortunately for u, so does the enemy. I have watched my teammates and some somalis blow off 30 or so rounds at each other from 10 feet away and not hit a damn thing. Also, you cannot drive any of the vehicles in the game (tho you can be a gunner in most) leaving you to the driver Ai which is basically ' drive straight to the way point even if 20 guys with rocket propelled grenades are in front of you'.
Your weapon selection is a bit pointless (admittedly, many good games also suffer from this such as ghost recon and Rogue spear). For instance, you often are faced with the choice of an M16 or an AR15. the M16 has greater range, but the AR15 has a scope. You would be out of your mind to take the M16. Now the M16 with the grenade launcher might seem better, but there is an Ar15 with the same grenade launcher as well. Similiarly, you can choose between a few machine guns as well with similiar issues. the SAW is more accurate than the more powerful M60, but it's a machine gun for crying out loud - it is hardly like you are going to snipe with it.
As far as options within the game, you will be surprised to learn that you are assigned an operative at the start of every mission - you are not given a choice. Your weapons are usually customizable, but you may not select a Delta Force member vs. a ranger or what have you. Also, the missions are pretty linear, tho you can select from 3 at a time, you must eventually defeat those missions to see the whole 'campaign'. the campaign itself is more like a bunch of mission thrown together with a few weak plot elements thrown in to try like mad to connect them in some way.
In multiplayer, you will love the options as long as you were not planning on replaying the campaign missions with your friends. there is no Co-op mode. This was the biggest disappointment for me. I expected a co-op mode and it was for this that i purchased the game. Instead you get the standard ho-hum capture the flag, death match and king of the hill modes. the 12 year olds that like to camp near spawn points and rack up 400 kills will love it. Tactical oriented players who like squad based team work with friends will go back to ghost recon.
The graphics are pretty good here, and overall, it is much better than Task force dagger or any other Delta game of the past, but Novalogic is still lagging behind here. This game quickly degenerates into a Doom style shoot 'em up due to the lack of good story line, poor choices for customizing your operative and shoddy AI.
Wait for Rainbow 6 3 or play ghost recon a while longer. ...
EDIT 4/12/03
Within the past few days the novalogic team has offically stated there are no plans for a co-op mode add on or patch due to the intense nature of the AI. Seems they wored very hard to get your teammates to shoot each other and to pock mark the walls of the buuildings of mogadishu with their M-16s.
Not exactly reaching for a better review from the team work oriented types like myself.....

I've enjoyed this game from the very beginning. Realistic battles, knife combat, snipering ability, correct weapons at your ready disposal. This game has something for all interest. Interact with team members, strategize your assaults, or just lose yourself in the moment. It's all good!

Excellent Graphics, and compairable to other first shooter games, But this one is set apart because of the ease of which you can get into this game (Novalogic's games), and there are many. This one game allows you to be a sniper yet you can become Close quarter combatent, caused not so much by your choice but by the situation, emulating real life combat. This game has many weapons but only those of which had been used in Somolia at the time. Helos, Hummers, AR15s, M-40 Sniper rifles, M1919A1 45 semi-auto pistol, a Ka-bar knife, and later when the game is released I think also an M-4 Assult rifle with M-203 granade launcher. The action is constant and filled with surprises. If you like a "Rush" this will not only get you going but will lure you back time and time again. So I'll See you on the battle front, if you think your ready?
WOW! AMAZING!

This game is going to be one of the PC games of 2003! I have the demo and i must say i am amazed at the graphics and game play. The only bad thing about this game is the system requirements. I am running a AMD 1.9 Celeron With Nvedia Geforce 4 (64 MB) and 256 MB DDR Ram and the game still had lag patches sometimes! So I you buy this game make sure your computer is up to the requirements! Other than that this is and will be for a long time one of the best and most realistic tactical FPS ever!
Great Game from a Military Members view point!

... If anything this game gives just a small hint of what those gallant soldiers went through.. We'll never fully appreciate it as no game can ever make you feel that way. ...This is a fine game and should rank high with first person shooters.
