I bought this game the other day and have barely stopped playing ever since. Yeah, the controls are not very good. But, how else do you expect tons of metal and ammo to move? If you payed for this you can get used to them and master them rather fast. Buy this game, it is THE BEST.
This is great game

Anybody wanna know what its like to pilot a gundam?? Well all you have to do is buy this game and find out.
I liked this game cuz of it's graphics. They were amazing to my eyeballs.
So buy this game if you're a gundam fan. I'm not, and im givin it 5 stars. So buy it if you are or aren't a gundam fan. You'll like it anyways.
Worth playing through once.

Though I am a solid fan of Mobile Suit Gundam and its many spin-offs, I am writing this review as a seasoned gamer and nothing more. Only the game's content will be discussed.
It starts off great: CGI's animate the hundreds of orbiting colonies, the mobilization of the Zeon and Federation forces, an orbital battle sequence, and, finally, Amuro Rey and the Gundam giving a squad of Zakus some serious payback.
After beating the first mission, the game takes a sincere downfall. Manually aiming and firing the gun is awkward. One must get up close and personal with the incoming Dopps in order to take them out, either by thrusting directly into them or standing on the White Base in wait. Destroying enemy Gaws in the third mission requires thrusting repeatedly, landing on top (which is painfully difficult at times) and wrecking it from there.
Most of the Gundam fans out there defend the controls as being authentic and true to the show. That's all well and good with a game like Silent Hill 2, where the player assumes the role of James: a depressed widower with little or no combat experience. Thus, the controls are strange and clunky, in order to give the player some feeling of how James isn't used to swinging clubs and firing guns.
Here's the trade-off. While combat is only used when absolutely necessary and performance ratings are nonexistent in Silent Hill 2, ALL of the goals in J2J involve fighting and performance is graded based on remaining life, defeated enemies, time taken, etc.
Let it also be known that fans are optimistic in saying that one gets used to the controls. With ANY game, the player soon memorizes button functions and special moves. This does not make the controls respond better at all, though. Being on the receiving end of a beam weapon while trying to dash away makes one want to hurl the controller across the room. All of the moves listed in the instruction manual (except for the sequential saber slash) are difficult to execute, take time, and are not worth the effort in the end. Strafing while using the rifle, bazooka, or hammer is the best strategy at any and all times.
If anything, rent or borrow the game, find a good strategy guide, and play through it once, like I did. The CGI's and animated cutscenes are done well and fun to watch. The mobile suit specs, movies, and music tracks in the gallery are worth checking out. In short, the gameplay suffers while everything else is thoroughly enjoyable. Bad gameplay is, however, totally unacceptable, which is why I only give this game an average rating.
On a final note, it ticks me off that the first good Gundam game on the PS2 is one in which the player fights on the Zeon side.
Good Game, Controls Need a Little Help

This is an excellent game to play through, it is challenging while not too challenging to make it boring. The cinematics are excellent because they are taken from the series.
The controls need a tad bit help however, it takes quite a bit of hand twisting to manualy aim and fire, or alot of control/strength to fire the weapon while aiming, but its no biggie.
I'd recomend this game to anyone who enjoyed Armored Core, Mechwarrior or any other mecha-genre games
Fun game, but way too short

This was my first PS2 game. I love the graphics and the storyline. It takes you quickly through the Mobile Suit Gundam storyline as Amuro Rei. Once you have gone through the story line you open up a tactics mode where you can unlock other Federation and Zeon suits and pilot them. I oftene enjoy doing that now since I find some of the Zeon suits to be amazing. The storyline is good, but I wish they had finished the Mobile Suit Gundam story. It was over way too soon, but it is still fun to go back and do the story mode again. Definitely, worth while, especially until I can save up the money to buy the newer Gundam PS2 games. If you like Gundam or just fighting with giant robots with good graphics then buy this game. Keep the faith, dExtrosien
Good game once you get the hang of it.

Unfortunatly, I have not had the luxury of playin many other Gundam games, but this one is nothing short of amazing. I don't understand peoples troubles with the controls; once you get the hang of it you can pretty much move like the guys in the show (and a bit more even). Try boosting left or right during a jump, you can sneak behind enemies and blast them. Anyway, the graphics were rather good considering the release date, and the sound is top notch. The anime cutscenes also look superb. Also it can be challenging to unlock all the extras. I highly recommend this game to any fan of the One Year War or any giant fighting robot otaku.
LONG GAME,BUT FUN!!

This was my first game to ever get on my PS2.It was a very good game to start people up.The gameplay is kind of complicating. You have to know when to change weapons and dodge. The biggest part of the game is protecting your allys.IT IS IMPORTANT TO PROTECT YOUR ALLIES.If you don't GAME OVER.I was quite disturbed with the graphics. It wasn't good but wasn't bad either. It was kind of fuzzy. On the last level,it will take a very, very long time to beat.To finally beat JOJ,it took me one year! The godd thing is,after you beat the game. You get many mobile suits.MANY mobile suits. Some are not in the game at first but you'll have fun.It would be best to rent it first.
THIS IS A SWEET GAME!!!!!!!!!!

This Gundam game is cool. It nicely follows the cartoon series. However the game isn't completly perfect. The controlls are kind of hard. Shooting Dopps or other planes is a pain. But once you unlock every MS in Tactics Battle, it kicks butt. You can controll MS's that aren't in the game. You can even play as the Zeon's though the levels are the same for both sides.
