The action in this game is fast. It is a fun game overall with lots of nice added game play modes like a home run derby with targets to strike outside the park, and a legends mode where you can play with all time baseball greats like Hank Aaron or Babe Ruth for example. The main drawback to this game though is the pure lack of realism. It just feels outdated when you play it. There is no Playstation baseball title that beats it, trust me I have played them all, but if you have a Nintendo 64 try All Star Baseball 2001 instead. All Star Baseball for the N64 is much more realisic with far better graphics and gameplay. If playstation is all you got though, try Tripple Play 2001.
More flaws than an old pinto!

What a terrible game this is. Only very young kids will enjoy the "extras" which are ridiculous. Besides the terrible fielder animations the game has a few bugs as well. )I hit a home run and the ball fell back into play, but the computer wouldnt field it so i had to reset the game) also the close ups of fielders are terrible, it always looks like your player is throwing home, even though he might be throwing to second! In addition.....rey ordonez has hit 4 homeruns in 2 games for me (on pro mode)
In conclusion, this is pretty much the same as last year (except for the horrible extra features such as having a home run derby in a livving room) the only really good thing about the game is being able to use hall of fame players, but the game play is very unrealisitc, and im sick of these monsterous polygonal graphics....why cant these developers stay away from those ugly close ups forever....(or at least until PS2 is out)
Addictive, fun, full of variety, great gameplay, awesome!

For those of you expecting more out of Triple Play from last year then be relieved. The framerate is pretty fast, the stadiums are very awesome, it has more variety than ever before and is the extreme challenge is unique and addictive. What's different from TP 2000? Well, for starters you have 4-5 unique stadiums to chose from in extreme challenge. Have you ever wanted to play in someone's living room. Well you can in one of the extreme stadiums. In each stadium you get points for hitting various objects and targets outside the fences in the outfield. Now, you can choose the all-time legends like Babe Ruth, and Ted Williams. In the Season mode you have all-star voting which is done after each game. A vote tally is given for each League and position. Also, in the season mode as you are playing a season throughout a game you can unlock codes which can give you rewards like Increased defensive power, etc. The list goes on and on.
Overrall, this year's TP 2001 will not be matched. Perhaps Dreamcast will have a game with better graphics but the gameplay is what always count. TP 2001, in my opinion, is the best there has ever been and can only be beat by TP 2002 or when PS2 comes out with a better baseball game. EA SPORTS HITS ANOTHER HOMERUN!
Buy it now before supplies run out.

This game is a disappointment.
The truly wonderful thing about last years TP2K was the framerate was cranked up to a consistant 30 fps. The animation is very, very choppy in TP2001, which makes it difficult to understand how Electronic Arts could regress so much in a years time. The new facial mapping is nice, but the stadiums seem to have taken a hit looks-wise in the process. The much touted defensive point of view fielding option is fairly difficult to get used to, and the decreased framerate doesn't make it easier.
On the positive side, the AI hitters aren't hitting your pitching quite as easily as in TP2K -- you can strike them out. The fielding controls are responsive, as are the hitting controls. The "Big League Challenge" extreme mode is pretty fun, combining homerun derby with target practice. There is something to be said for the sight of the Babe launching an opposite field homer straight at a glass building, shattering windows in the process. The audio, as always, is excellent.
I gave this title 3 stars because TP2001 isn't quite bad enough to warrant 2 stars. There are enough positives to recommend this title to newcomers of the TP series. Veteran TP players may want to rent it first, however.
The best Triple Play yet.

There are several cool new features in this game, such as an option called Points Cap Play. What this means is that if you make some nice plays or make more difficult accomplishments, you are given points that you can spend on anything from upgrading your players, buying legends of the game or even a new stadium. With this option on, you can also get free bonus cheat options (check out 'pulsating head' which is one of the weirdest things I've seen in a game) There are also the old standards, such as single game, season, home run derby. Speaking of home run derby, there is one mode called "extreme" where you try to hit various targets for bonus points. Very fun! As usual, this game has good control, decent graphics and often-funny commentary from Buck Martinez and Jim Hewson. I recommend this game.
Another great EA sports game

If you love the Triple Play series you will want this game. If, however, you love the gameplay of TP 2000 but are not impressed with the old time players, the 500 home club feature, and a tournament with teams of the world, then save your money. It plays exactly like TP2K. No different. Which is good, because TP2K is great.
They should have called this Triple Play 2000: Second Edition with added features. Its still a great game, but I just wish we got the dynasty features that EA's football games give us. For really in depth baseball check out High Heat, but for gameplay Triple Play is the way to go.
Not worth it

EA has always made great sports games. Lately it seems as if they are coasting on their previous successes. For one thing this game is prone to freezing when the computer makes a dumb error. Like a pickoff that flies off into the outfield. The ball gets lost and you have to reset the whole console. Not fun if you are playing in season mode and are in the 9th inning. The graphics are great until you see Dreamcast's version which makes triple play baseball look like puke on your TV set. The crowd is always annoying, they jeer even whether you're 20 points ahead or behind. As usual the announcers are annoying and don't really call the game (when are we going to have smart announcers?!) Also there is a lot of saving going on here. And I mean a lot. You need 7 blocks in memory just for the season. When you make it into the playoffs you need another 7 blocks. There are some winning points, the homerun derby is fun, especially using players like Ruth, Eddie Murray, and Reggie Jackson. And in extreme mode you not only have to hit home runs but hit targets as well. The opening sequence is great. And the prevailing song is the Magic Carpet Ride RMX... (they probably drained all their production costs into the soundtrack).
My favorite video game.

From all the Playstation baseball games I have played, this is the best. The graphics are great, the announcers and music are great, and so is a lot of other stuff. One turnoff--when you are in season or playoff mode you have to load, then save, then load, and then save again just to play one game. It gets tiresome. Last year's version didn't do this, but the game is still top-notch quality.

I love this game. The graphics aren't the best but it has awesome game modes. In create a player there are many differnt real batting stances you can choose from. I like how you can earn legends, stadiums, and codes playing well
A great baseball experience

Among the first things I noticed about TP 2001 where the graphics. While not a great improvement over last year, this year's players look more "human." And as far as the gameplay, it's as solid as ever. Be sure try fielding from the defensive player's point of view. The addition of the 500 home run club members, as well as the Big League Challenge, adds a great deal of replay value to the game. The only gripe I have with 2001 is the roster, as Ken Griffey Jr.'s still in Seattle. If you're a baseball fan, or a fan of baseball video games, I'd seriously consider picking this one up.
