I think most of the reviews above don't do justice to this game. First of all it is in the tradition of C&C and as a C&C fan I can surly say it is as enjoyable as the previous games.
The graphics are excellent and more thought for details has been put here.
The three armies are versatile and unique and you will find many interesting feature for each. The concept of the generals themselves is clever, since you choose which way you want to develop your skills, thus each game differs in tactic and flow.
All the needed quick keys are there and more - this time you can place cameras in various areas on the map and jump to that area with a single click.
There are air combats, terrorists, and more and the various units allow you to create great situations and tactic moves.
The topography has an important role and if used wisely the game becomes even more interesting.
many bugs from the previous game were fixed (like flying units no longer need to "climb" cliffs, but rather fly over them like they should), but I must say that the path-finding is still a bit lousy :-)
The most important thing is the multiplayer games which make any C&C to a top game (campaign are just to get you into the atmosphere, but it is not the main thing in these kind of games).
GOOD GAME! buy it.

Most reviews for this game are not giving it the credit it deserves. People are complaining that there computers cant handle it. Would you prefere if they made the graphics a little worse and the amount of units more limited? Of course not. The reason the A.I. doesn't seem as effective as it did in past games is because the this game is so much more complex. I think that if fighting a brutal army is to easy for you, why not fight 2 or 3. If you think you're such a hotshot that the A.I. can't challenge you, try and take on 7 brutals. Of course that would be impossible but the point is that you can still challenge yourself with this games brytal armies. This doesn't matter that much anyway because the only time you'll be playing the computer is when your friends aren't on. That won't be often judging by how much fun multiplayer games are.
On a final note, I'd like to take this time to tell anyone who already has this game, or is purchasing it, to turn off any virus programs they have while they are playing online. Otherwise they may be seeing the, "You or another player may have a firewall blocking the connection so you can't play" message quite often. Thank you.

Very fun game... at first. Gets boring after a little while though. Maybe I need the expansion pack?

After 4 patches, I still can't play online, even though all my other online games work (including Blizzard's and even Westwood's previous ones). The EA message board is flaming with similar (and other) problems. Avoid this one.

More details re problem: I can connect to the EA server, download patches, and see games. I can even join games. But the games never start.

It seems the game has trouble with NAT and firewalls, but it is worse than that, as I can't connect even if I try a direct connection through my cable modem, or even if I use my dial-up modem!

You need a good PC

Complaining to Westwood about how outdated this game is isnt going to acheive anything. I disagree regarding your CLICK CLICK CLICK theory, have you forgotten about C&C - Renegade. This was TOTALY different to what we have here. Westwood tested a different formula and i have to say that i enjoyed it. Yes with this new game it may be similar in some ways to previous releases however if it sells then Westwood will continue to rewamp the formula. The day will come when they totally change the entire format and people will complain then as well. They can never please anyone, so if you dont like the game dont buy it. Rent it first and then if you like, buy!

If you read only one review, make it this one

first the bad news,
If you are a newbie to this game I assure you as soon as you learn the interface of this game all "normal" computers are cake, they even stop sending units at you, they only make one or two defensive buildings and nobody guards their base. If the other nations of the world were "normal" and fought "normal" the US would declare war on the world and win. The brutal enemies clearly cheat. they make giant tank squadrens and tons of supply harvesters in no time, I end up making a band of freedom fighting tank destroying infantry against the onslaught of tanks. But I always win in the end. There is no navy either but oh well.

Now the good stuff, the graphics are great, the music is great, usually the movie at the start of missions is great, running it on high detail slows down it slighty but heres a secret, if you are running it on high detail you are silly honstly, I turned on all the high graphics and you know what they did? Nothing. If they did change the graphics in anyway I would say, who needs more ground lighting, who needs cloud shadows, just suck it up and handle it. All you need is 3D shadows to tell where the helicopters are. It is fun; the units can do diffrernt things, and when things die they don't just disappear, they go out with a bang. The game is much more serious which is more fun. but the missions are all the same,
OH NO the terrorists have a base where they are making WEAPONS! REAL WEAPONS! so destroy their base end mission. its cool you can have multi-superweapons. It's mainly cool all around. Though I havent yet tried the multiplayer I will.

WORTH THE MONEY.

Great Game, But Low-End PC Owners Beware

This game is a worthy addition to the command and conquer family. The main highlight is the fact that you can actually play as real life nations. Instead of the GDI and the NOD terrorists, you play as the US, China, and the Global Liberation Army (the terrorists). There are lots of new units and structures, and the graphics are better then any C+C game to date. The only problem with this game is that in my opinion you need an awesome PC to run it to its full potential. I have an AMD 2700+, 512MB PC-3500 RAM, and an ATI 9700 Pro graphics card, and the scrolling still tends to get choppy once your base gets significantly large. Overall, this game's concepts are great, and is worth getting if you have a P4 2.2Ghz or AMD 2600+ or better.
