Sweat to the Beat...

First off, let me get the one bad point out of the way. I don't like the music. It's okay and I didn't expect better from a dance game but it just isn't to my taste.

Okay, now all the good. If played diligently, this game will work on your rhythm, reflexes, stamina and timing. I even found it easy to push myself into playing 3 times longer after I started getting tired and actually felt like I was dancing after just a few hours. A few of the levels are easy enough for a beginner but I would recomend taking real dance lessons if you can get through the harder ones.

And finally the technical. This game has a wide range of options on how you can play with it's game, workout, lesson, and trining modes. Each with verying difficulties. Combine this with it's 25+ songs and you should never get board playing it.

It's an all around great game so get your hand out of that bag of crisps and dance!

Best game EVER!!!

When I first got DDR, I was pretty bad. The next day, I totally got the hang of it and was playing the intermediate songs in no time!I got DDR right before my birthday, so we played it at my party. Everyone got the hang of it real fast and we had a blast. When my friends left, they told their parents about it. They loved it so much,2 out of the three people at my party got DDR. Now it is always involved in what we do at eachother's houses. We love DDR so much. The songs are great, from "Have You Never Been Mellow" to "Paranoia; Clean Mix." All of the songs have a great beat, and have difficulty levels for all dancers. I would absolutely reccomend this game to anyone who wants to have a blast!

Welcome to the world of Dance Dance Revolution. After years of searching arcades for this game, gamers were finally given the chance to play at home in April of 2001. Ever since then, gamers have been dancing to the music.

Unlike many video games, which often promote laziness, this game does quite the opposite. Playing DDR, the gamer is brought into a world of music beats (most often electronic) and arrows. Dancing to the arrows, the gamer is rated on his/her performance.

The sheer joy of this game is that it gives you the ability to get physical exercise while not even realizing it. Dancing to the music does not feel as arduous as running or other hard physical exercising. However, in reality, you end up burning as many (or more) calories than you would running, biking, or swimming.

The selection of music for this first release of DDR makes it perfect for an intermediate level dancer. While one can easily learn how to play from this game, it would probably be easier to purchase the second game released in America, Dance Dance Revolution Disney Mix. Proceed to this game, following up with DDR Konamix.

All in all, I recommend this game for gamers of all ages. It is a breath of fresh air in the game industry and is an excellent workout at the same time.

Oh, you've got to try this one!

This is a really great game. Do not be scared off by the fact that you have to jump around on a dance pad - it is a lot of fun & a good workout. You can play without the dance pad, but it is not as enjoyable. The game & pad can be purchased together as a bundle & this is less expensive than buying the two separately. I am quite clumsy & am improving at the game - if I can learn, anyone can! I was thrilled when I found out it was being released in the US. I do think that the Japanese versions (like 3rd & 4th mix) have more & better songs, so that would be my only complaint. As the majority of people in the US do not have Japanese Playstations or a modified Playstation, I definitely give it 5 stars. Also, the Dance Dance Revolution Disney Mix is coming out 9/19/01 & I have only heard good things about it. Oh, by the way, I heard that there's a DDR arcade game in Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, MO, so since I have a season pass, I'm going to check it out. I wish they had the game somewhere in the area that is open year round though!

DDR is sweet but needs much improvement!

Ok, heres the dilyo. I am a 14 year old gamer and Ive been playing ddr for about a year now.I played it for about 4 months, once or twice a week, at the arcade until i decided to get it. The arcade version of DDR is vastly superior to the home version....The home version only has 20 something songs. The one at the arcade has way way way more than that although i cant give you an exact figure. The one at the arcade you can go into step step revolution which presents a whole new line of maniac songs and also you can press acode which gets you to the second mix which presents a whole new line of songs. But even wihout doing this the thir mix normal more than blows the home version out of the water. The home version leaves out many great songs including one of, if not the best song "Butterfly". There is one thing you can do which is get the vastly superior 3rd or 4th mix at home but only if your playstation can handle import games. But overall although inferior to the other games DDR american version is a great game.

I love this game to death!

This is one of the best games I've ever played. My brother got it for Christmas and I've already beat all 32 levels. (Only on easy, though.) Its really fun (and quite addictive!). If you're tryingto lose weight, theres a "workout mode" that tracks how many calories you burn. Its an awesome game!

The reason I (finally) bought a Playstation

This game is awesome! It's a lot of fun to play and an excellent workout too. ...I'm here to say it's just as fun as the arcade. Sure it may not be as good as the import versions, but most people don't want to solder special modchips into their systems just to be able to play ...imports either. (After you realize how much fun you're having you may consider it, though.)

The only other common complaint seems to be the music. Yeah, it's dance music - heavy on eurodance, but what do you expect from a "dance game"? Real fans of this series are disappointed with certain missing songs, but hopefully the popularity of this game will inspire Konami to make more versions of this game - just like they're currently doing overseas.

....

Decent but disappointing

This game is alright, but after playing the japanese ones it is more than a bit disappointing. There are too few songs, and the selection is okay but not great. They are all Bemani songs, but they left out some of the best ones that had appeared in the japanese versions. (Smile.dk songs, Kung Fu Fighting, Shook, Captain Jack songs...) Konami majorly messed up the marketing on this one also. Not enough people found out about it in the US for it to spread like it did in Japan. I got bored with this game very fast. However if you have never played DDR, you will be able to appreciate it more.

Hey wats up everyone, this is SS4Reggie again and I have great news for anyone buying the Dance Dance Revolution game but cant find the Dance Pads. Well the Dance Pads are coming out on April 16 2001. The only place I know that will have this is Funcoland or Funcoland.com so if anyone cant find it any where then just go there. I just hope that Toys R Us will sell them because I know alot of people will buy them

One of the BEST modern dance games!

Dance Dance Revolution for the US-Playstation is better than I thought it would be. I ordered mine straight off of Konami.com, but if you ordered it from here, it'll be worth the wait. From the intense "nonstop" mode, to the original arcade mode you know and love, DDR will have you in the center of any type of party. Whether you like techno, rave, pop, hip-hop, or any other music, DDR is the game for you! Also, with the dance pad (official or not) you will be showin' off your skillz in no time.
