Can't afford Disney World? Then you may want to try to bring the thrills and spills of an amusement park to you. Roller Coaster Tycoon gives you the opportunity to see if you have what it takes to build your own little wonderland. This is a must have for you Michael Jackson wannabees. Roller Coaster Tycoon is a simulator based on the Sim City genre of games. It gives you the ability to assemble an amusement park that rivals some of the ones you have probably visited. Like all simulators, building things isn't cheap. You must manage your capital wisely, in order to accomplish your goal of attracting customers, and building rides and attractions that generate your profits. Enough of the finance babble, Lets get down to business. The game lets you start off in a couple of ways. One option is you can choose from one of the pre fabricated parks, and try to manage it to profitability, and not letting fall apart. Or, you can start from scratch and build your own park. Both options let you build until you feel like stopping. The game doesn't take your park away once you have met your goals. Good things too. Kids don't like things being taken away from them, and neither do adults for that matter. Game play ranges from simple to complex. Beginners will want to lay down pre fabricated rides and attractions. It's a click the button, and place the building interface. Once you have moved past that, you have the ability to make your own rides and coasters. This is where the game can get tricky and frustrating. Some times you take the time and put in the effort of building a super coaster, just to find that your customers are too chicken to go on it. The game gives each customer his or her own personality traits, which you can monitor. You can find out if a customer is happy, sad, bored afraid, hungry, or angry. Based on their reactions to your facilities, you will know what you have to do in order to make your park better. The range of the personality traits is amazing at times. My personal favorite part of the game is the sound effects of the park. Everything from the music to the sounds the rides make, gives you the feel that you are actually there taking part in the activities. The animation is also excellent. You can easily lose yourself for hours in these aspects alone.
The upside to the game is that you really don't get micro managed to death in order to keep things from going haywire. The downside is the patience you must have in order to be successful. It can take a while to build a park that has the items you want in it. Trying to budget your money while attracting customers can be tedious. You may eventually get bored and start tossing your customers into the water and watching them swim for it. That's also one of my favorite features. In the end, Roller Coaster Tycoon is an enjoyable game that will keep you and the kids entertained for plenty of time. Its technical scalability makes it a winner for Sim players of all skill levels. It is easily one of the best games in its class. If you are into Sims, this is a must have for your collection

Really, what more can you say about this game, that has not been said in the last 100+ interviews. The game is extremely good. It is not as boring as Sim City can be (Alright I am too [scared] to turn disasters on). The other "building games" (Such as "Age of Empires," "Red Alert 2" etc) are more about warfare. But this game works because you do not simply make a amusement park. There are a series of challenges. Have so many guests in the park by X amount of time. Have your Park Value be X amount of dollars in X amount of time. It is almost like a puzzle game, where you have to figure out how to solve every new challenge. In the course of playing the game I have learned a few things. ALWAYS place a bathroom and plenty of benches near the exit of every roller coaster. If you make all your rides free, and set your park enterence fee at $30 or $40 dollars (After you have a few rides), somehow you end up with more money. There you go. This is one of the most interesing and fun games I have ever played, and it is well worth checking out.

THis is one of the best and realistic simulations i have ever played. If you like amusement parks you will love this game! The rides are not so hard to make but they are still entertaining. This game requires much strategy. Buy this Game! You will not regret it

This game is the best I have ever seen of the type. It gives out different sized parks and a target, each getting harder as you progress. If you get the challenge complete early, don't think you've won yet. The REAL challenge lies within keeping the park as it was when you reached the target. The game isn't only that, but they make it so fun you can't stop playing. This game could be educational for future events, but who cares? It's fun and exciting and challenging. The best game I EVER played anywhere.
The greatest Sim\Play-God game since SIM CITY 2000

Over the last few years there have been verrrrry few games that can be considered "original". Every game has just been a copy of those before them, only with a higher price tag and higher system requirements =) That is until I happened to observe a TV commerical for Roller Coaster Tycoon. Instantly I was obsessed to get ahold of the game. Within two days I had it, and from the time I threw it in to the time I shut it down, nearly 9 hours had passed -- leaving me little time for homework! The game is just waaay toooo "un-chained". You can do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING you want. You want a coaster that wizzes through the mountains and trees that you want to have carry your water flume ride -- you can do it. You want a train to encircle the park with a particular color of cars -- you can do those as well. The level of freedom is totally unmatched by any SIM I know of to date. The game's interface feels kinda like the systems portrayed in JURASSIC PARK, where everything is wired to automated computer control, a nice and entertaining touch =) This game gives you more respect for those souls who work day in and day out to see that amusement parks like Disneyland and Six Flags stay at top-notch for all their guests. Buy it. Play it. Learn it. Live it. =)
I salute you, Chris Sawyer, Great job ^^

This is quite a fascinating game. A great amount of thought and detail went into this game, from the fact that you can build your own rides (or choose from many premade coasters, thrill rides and gentle ones) to the fact that you've got to maintain a fleet of handymen to keep sweeping up the vomit! You proceed through scenarios with a goal set for you to complete, the terrain is interesting and you'd be amazed at how quickly time flies when you're playing! Excellent work! You can also download new rides all the time from their website and visit the Ride Exchange if you don't like to build your own, there are limitless realistic rides to be built and there's a huge following that this game has picked up... and for good reason!
Great fun but addictiveness wears off quickly

This is a terrific, nonviolent, constructive (so to speak) game. It's great fun, and when I got it on a Thursday, I played it for a few hours that night, then a few more hours Friday night, and then all day Saturday and Sunday.
Since then, I still play it, but not with the same feverishness as before. It's still fun, but the beginning scenarios have started to look the same. Pump up the research, but food courts, make the park smaller by breaking up paths, etc. I expect that some of the later scenarios will get more difficult, but right now, the game isn't too hard.
It's pretty and neat to look at it, but be warned that it may not be as addictive as made out to be by other reviews.
Please reserve the PC for about 8 hrs.

Just about one of the best games ever made. About 6 months ago I got this game. You never, ever get bored of this game. You can even track a single guest's thoughts feelings. Once more, everything is under you control. From the amount of people a single ride can hold to the amount of water in your park. The graphics are great! This game is worth every penny, trust me.
