This is the very best simulation of building a thriving theme park! I have no idea who Chris Sawyer is, but he is sure good at programming to be able to make this game! This game has awesome graphics, easy gameplay and some features you have to try again and again. Now, why are you still reading this? Buy the game already!

I got Roller Coaster Tycoon for my 7th birthday after my dad saw how much I liked Legoland (The game Legoland not the place). After I figured out how to play it I instantly fell in love with it. The graphics aren't the best but they are okay. It took me a few try's to beat the first level but then when I finished I was amazed.

You can create huge roller coasters or slow moving merry-go-rounds or even a maze for your visitors to find their way through. It's all in your hands so use your hands wisely!

This game has my favorite levels out of Roller coaster Tycoon 1, 2 and 3. If you want good graphics get the 3rd I do not suggest getting the 2nd unless the 1st is too easy for you. If you really like the 1st I suggest you get Roller Coaster Tycoon Deluxe which comes with lots of new levels and four bonus levels.

You can start playing on any of the five levels shown in white: Forest Frontiers, Dynamite Dunes, Leafy Lake, Diamond Heights or Evergreen Gardens. The easiest is Forest Frontiers so you should start there. Oh and one more thing, for every scenario you complete you unlock another scenario!

Fun,but gives one the feeling of being under preasure

this game is fun, no question about that. But on all scenarios that you play there are goals like must have 1,400 guests at the end of year three and stuff like that which makes one feel "oh no, i only have a month left to attract a 1000 more guests! i can never do that. I might as well just give up" I think that kind of defeats the whole purpose of HAVING FUN. But, the alternative is to ignore the objectives and deal with failing the goal. Of courese, if you do that, you'll be playing the same 3 levels over and over again! But overall, it a cool game.

A great game.... with a glitch

This game is an awesome idea. It is really fun to play. However, there is one major problem-it keeps freezing up! Just when you start to get going, boom! you have to restart your computer! I have tried everything!(updates, reloading, etc..) I have consulted a couple of my friends, and they have the same problem. If you have a compaq computer with windows '98, I do NOT reccomend this game for you.

Many people who know this game could flip to see that I gave it anything other than 5 stars. But, I felt this game did not deserve the last stars for a couple of reasons which I will present you with now. By no means should you NOT purchase this game, but don't expect everything it's been described as.

The major positive aspects of "Roller Coaster Tycoon" are obvious. The user can create their own theme park right down to the roller coasters which they can design themselves. After designing the park the gamer can watch virtual people explore and enjoy the park.

The negatives just about even off with the positives. First of all, the interface makes creating roller coasters difficult. It will take the user a LOT of work to master creating a roller coaster quickly.

Secondly, when the user does ultimately make his creation... it will probably be disliked by the virtual people unless is snaps exactly to the guidelines.

Third, the information is incredibly innaccurate. How many roller coasters cost a mere $9,000? And in what world would people pay over $50 each to get in a theme park, and then pay insane amounts to ride each ride?

Lastly, Hasbro didn't release a Macintosh version. Something that all game developers should be doing as the Macintosh is grandly growing in the computer world and a much better gaming system than the PC.

Buy the game by all means, but it's not perfect.

Roller Coaster Tycoon is the best in the Tycoon series!!!!!

Forget Railroad Tycoon and all those other so called great Tycoon games this one is the best!!! It's awesome it is a game were you run and control your own 'Theme Park' you can build huge roller coasters and make people pay alot to go on them.Or you can be nice and have little pyramids from ancient times. Either way it is still fun to play and although I don't do neither of this things I still love this game!!! It's amazing how the makers made it so that each person has their own individiul thoughts(sometimes when someone is thinking something bad about my park I pick them up and drown them in a tiny pool)and the graphics are awesome such as the trees the rides and even down to the people!!! And it doesn't take much of a computer to run this game nicely. You have to do everything to keep your park going such as clean up,construct rides, make bathrooms, paths, avertisments for your park, and at the same time the best thing to do is keep your people happy. You should start building alot of kiddy rides at first, then build a lot of bathrooms and stands, you should also take the time to give workers certain areas and if you have all the areas covered with handyman, mechanics, entertainers, and security guards. Then start building big roller coasters.(You ussaully want to plan ahead or else you'll end up with a huge mess when you are far into the game)Well that's all I got to say now I've done my part now you do yours and buy this game!!!!!!!!

Slow to Get Going, Repetitive to Play

It's an inventive idea, but there's a lot of work to setting up this game (unlike some of the other Sim games) before it really gets going. The set-up time before the park was really up and running--i.e., before the game became fun, really--was just too daunting. We gave away the CD-rom to a 10-year-old (who does love it!)

Educational but Fun

My 10 year old played 10 hours straight on Christmas day and is very hooked on the game. Normally we would object but to "win" one needs to think and plan carefully. It appears to give a great foundation into business as you build and run a theme park and then see if you can reach your goals in park attendance, customer satisfaction and profit.

AWESOME GAME!
