Roller Coaster Tycoon has a mixture of Simcity with a better twist. You get to creat Roller Coasters that can make people get from one place to another, or make the coaster so intense people puke after riding it (game hint:type in wile holding shift rct2. then hit enter. You will recieve infinite$$$ all the scenarieos and the time to play them all (dosn't work with all versions of the game))Get it now unless your an A student.

Very much worth the price

Roller Coaster Tycoon is easily (and arguably, I suppose) the most captivating computer game ever created. If you are even remotely a fan of amusement parks, a fan of constructing things, or a fan of simulated environments/games, you will probably pass out from excitement after exposure to the incredible mechanics of this product. I'm not much of an avid video game player of any type, so I'm warning you as an unsuspecting consumer...this game is horrifyingly addictive. The price you'll pay is not one of money, but one of hoards of amounts of time. It, however, is beyond well worth it. The game is simple enough for many age groups, challenging enough to keep one busy, yet leaves players alone long enough to enjoy the ability to design and build the ultimate roller coaster. It is, honestly, almost more fun than actually being at an amusement park. Make sure you've worked enough with this game to determine if you'd enjoy the available expansion pack also listed here on Amazon.com.

Thank God it is not 3D

Brilliant. The ease of play is excellent. You dont need a super computer to play this game just like many recently released game. Many feel that it should have been in 3D or with more advanced graphics, some movies interludes ect. Thank god it is not, That would be the biggest minus for this game. The graphics, sound are just right if you want to really enjoy this game without any disturbance.

heh........ THE BEST GAME IN THE WORLD..........heh

This game we call Roller Coster tycoon is great. It is like the work of a Arcitect. The whole point of the game is to have fun. The best part is that you desighn the whole thing! You manage and construct. Then you can go ahead and buy the expansion packs. You have to pay people to work for you and every thing else. I think it is great because you never want to stop playing the game! Most of my friends think it is great too. NONSTOP FUN

WOW! :):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)

Roller Coaster Tycoon is a delightful game. It combines two aspects of theme-park building-architectural planning and financial management-and somehow makes it fun. You will spend hours double checking to see how many french fries were sold in stall #1, and you'll LIKE it. While you can always put a ride into the game with just a few clicks, virtually every ride is customizable; some of them (such as the roller coasters and log flumes) can suck up hours of time, if you let them.

There are problems with the game. Since you cannot design while the game is paused, often you will be distracted from the all-important task of designing the Great American Coaster by such piddling issues as lost customers or complaints on cleanliness. The lack of such staples as arcades and skee-ball is lamentable. Also, the victory conditions from the scenarios do not allow you to win early; in other words, it will say something like "Get a park value of 1200 by year 4." If you get the park rating in the middle of year 2, you still have to wait out the extra year and a half in order to win. Since winning a scenario makes other available, this sometimes led to periods of tedium while I waited out the ending.

These flaws do detract from the enjoyability of the game, but it is still one of the most delightful games on the market. Definitely not to be missed!

The attention to detail in this game is amazing. I have found this to be the best computer game I have purchased in years. Just simply looking at the graphics where the people feel sick or are eating is hilarious and cute. Ever since I started playing this game, I have found myself in amusement parks saying things such as "I can't find the park exit!"

Building parks and coasters is addicting. Sometimes it is easier to build parks using the pre-made coasters and rides than to build your own. Granted, some of the coasters are plain impossible to build so that a) they won't crash and b) people will actually ride them. I can see how parts of the game may be tedious and boring after a while to those with short attention spans, but in general this is a terrific game. It is great for children who need to learn about money management and other such skills.

The best parts of the game: The attention to detail, the many levels that you can play (beginner players would just simply build pre-made rides and try to complete the scenarios. Advanced players would build their own rides, etc), no violence (unless you count the fact that you can drown employees and customers).

The worst parts of the game: You have to buy the expansion pack to get the really creative scenarios - most of the scenarios in the original are basically the same with different terrian (the hardest being the one where you can't cut down trees!). Many parts of the game get old after a while - I played the game from start to finish and was a little tired of the same music, rides, and employees. This changes in the expansion pack as well, where you get a much wider variety of rides, etc.

Two final thoughts - 1. I would definitely buy Loopy Landscapes as a companion to this game. Play the original for a while until you start to get bored (if that happens) and then try the expansion for added value. 2. I would NOT run this on a Pentium 90!! I ran it on a Pentium II 233 and it still crunched a bit - I can't imagine it on a Pentium 90. Upgrading to a P-III 750 made it run beautifully.

Not bad, but lacks something

I bought Roller Coaster Tycoon because it looked interesting, and the option to build roller coasters reminded me of Disney's old game Coaster. I played it for a while and bought the expansion pack, but it just didn't hold my attention.

When I bought it, it looked like a game for all ages, but after playing it for a while it really seemed like it was designed for kids, not adults. The whole nausea feature with guests vomiting all over really got old after a while. Also, the graphics aren't bad, but there's no variation in the guests, they all look like bald men, even the staff.

Once you've played all the scenarios, there's no more, and there isn't a "create your own" and just play option, everything has a scenario. You can keep playing them after you've won them, but you're limited to the land and the setup of that scenario.

The speed is also an issue, you either have go or stop, there's no way to slow down or speed up time, and most scenarios require a time limit, like a year or three years. Unfortunately, if you've won the scenario at the end of year one of a three year scenario, you're stuck. You have to wait out the next two years, and there's no way to set the game at a top speed so it will end faster. The opposite is true as well, if you're almost out of time and haven't met the conditions, you can't slow down the game to help you plan things out.

On the good side, the general graphics look nice, you can figured the game out pretty well on your own, and there's a nice variety of roller coasters. You have plenty of things to play with in the game, but there's just enough to it that I wouldn't consider it a fantastic game.

Highly Addictive

Roller Coaster Tycoon is a fun game. Even when in dire need of funds, and behind in my ratings, I still found myself having a blast playing this game. I would call it the most addictive game I own. My only complaint about it is it is extremely difficult to design your own roller coaster, or place a pre-made one without some sort of problem. (e.g. terrain too high, other attractions in the way, exit and entrance on the wrong side)

Addiction!

If you have a job, kids, spouse, or anything else that requires your time, I do not recommend you purchase this game. IT IS ADDICTING! Your free time is gone! You will be dreaming of new Roller Coaster designs in your sleep and bending paper clips at work to look like your latest creation! Chris Sawyer is a genius!
