I had never played Myst before and I wanted to give it a try because of its popularity. My biggest gripe is that the game offers no options. Every game I know of allows a player to customize the controls. I always use the inverted mouse look--pull back, look up; push forward, look down. I use this in Quake, Unreal, Thief II, Hitman codename 47, Forsaken, System shock 2, Half-Life etc. etc. Real Myst does not give me a choice, and I am not going to change my personal style for one game. The mouse is too sensitive, and there is no option to adjust it (as in other games). The "walk" mode is way too fast. So, just try playing a game where you seem to be running all the time, the mouse operates backwards, and is too sensitive in its left to right movement. Well, I can just stand there and admire all the scenery, I guess.

My system is a Dell XPS B733r (733 Mhz coppermine, PIII) with a geForce 256, 64MB DDR RAM 3D card, 128MB RDRAM, Soundblaster Live audio. Actually, the music in the game is very nice, and the graphics great.

A Blast

This is one of the best games I have ever played! It is so much better than the Myst Masterpiece Edition. I recomend people who don't have Myst yet to get this instead of the Myst Masterpiece Edition. They will probably like it better. Thank you Cyan for making such an amazing game!

Good luck finding a cheap copy!

Being an avid Myst fan, I stuck to my original Windows 95 version because I liked the original and didn't need fancy graphics. I recently decided to look into the other versions, since they were aged and probably not much to buy.

While Myst Masterpiece Edition is available cheaply, this version of Myst isn't. The game was discontinued shortly after it was released, since it required huge processor requirements at the time.

Unfortunately, that leaves the copies that were sold as "Collectors Items", which is why you see the hefty price tag.

I saw it selling for 30-40 on eBay, but haven't seen it any cheaper.

There is a demo that works for XP available, you just get to play the Stoneship age, but seeing how wonderful the game looks there you're probably going to want to get the real deal!

The best 15 hours at my pc (so far)

This game played like a dream. Great scenery and sound, better puzzles - A truly immersive experience.

PS. Note that I have a Geforce 3 card, an 866 MHz P3 chip and 640 Mb of RAM.

This is how MYST was meant to be!

The original MYST started it all. Then came Riven and MYST III: Exile. After completing all three, my curiousity turned to Real MYST. Now why would anyone want to play an updated version of the original? Updated is an understatement. Cyan has once again amazed me. The 360 degree of sight and movement(you don't even get all that with Exile)make it worth playing again. The addition of environtmental features i.e. changes from day to night and weather, make it even more enjoyable to experience again. Oh! Did I forget to mention the addition of the new Rime Age ending? This is the way MYST was meant to be!

Excellent!

Great game!
Buy it now.
Its even better than the original version.
Challenging puzzles at every turn, it really makes you think, and stretches your problem solving skills to the limit

High system requirements but great fun

The puzzles took a lot of thinking (and I resorted to an online hint guide often) but they weren't impossible to solve, and gave me a great sense of accomplishment once I had solved them. System requirements are pretty high. Though it says it works on 64 MB, after going through two ages, I came back to the library and the game was pretty much stuck (I would move about a foot per 15 min). Once I upgraded to 128 MB, it worked fine for the most part. Graphics are beautiful. However, if possible try to get a video card that supports FSAA (whatever that stands for :P) if you don't yet have one because if it doesn't, anti-aliasing won't work and graphics will be a bit jagged at the edges. I have that problem, and I can't easily get a video card so I'm stuck seeing the jagged edges. :(

Don't believe the review above.

This game is great. The review above doesn't do it any justice whatsoever. If you are thinking of not buying it because of this, don't. Buy it, it is a great game. The visuals make the puzzles more fun, and while the difficulty of moving a mouse is a problem, we all already know the story. We have it for the visuals. There is no excuse for Myst fans not to have this game.

The best adventure game of all time...

I've always wanted to play this game, so when Real Myst came up, it was the perfect opportunity. I got to play the myst game/puzzles in dynamic 3D! The puzzles made sense and were very logical! I only had trouble at the game's start, but once I got going I couldn't let go!

The graphics and effects are top notch and the talking books are hillarious!

I had a little trouble with mouse manipulation, but if you keep playing around with the mouse button, you can manipulate.

All in all, it was a fun experience! You'll enjoy this game! Its definely worth the money!!!

This game should run smoother

I am an avid Myst/Riven/MystIII fan. I bought realMyst to see the advanced graphics added to it..ie: Day,Night,Rain,Sun,and special effects. The game is really choppy. I even advanced my system, but it didnt help. I believe you shouldnt have to go any kind of frustration when playing a game and this one had a lot of choppiness and delayed reactions even after I upgraded my system. Too frustrating.
