Boring game. Half-Life is a modified version of Quake 2, and very lame modification of the Quake 2 game engine. CS is just as lame and boring as Half-Life. Don't believe the B.S. statistics about the number of players. Half-Life based online games must register with GameSpy, thus all servers are registered. Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament register with GameSpy OR other master servers, therefore the GameSpy statistics are skewed.

If you want a fast action game, play Capture the Flag or Rocket Arena under Unreal Tournament or Quake 3. The fast action and impressive graphics will blow you away.

Its a blast to play BUT.....

Before you waste your $20 there are some things you should know:

1. The game is full of cheats. Because the game was 'Beta' tested by the general public there are lots of skin hacks, wall hacks, aim-bots and other cheats already developed to make your gaming experience rotten.

2. The game is buggy. Models are drawn wrong, people look like little kids wanding around the maps. Gun animations are mostly wrong. Guns have ammo bugs where they won't report the right amount of ammo. The rounds system has bugs where people can get money at the start of the round and you get nothing. Players can exploit non-player characters to position themselves outside of the map borders making it impossible for you to accomplish mission goal, or to even find them.

3. The game is a computer hog! Unless you have a spankin' new video card and a good processor and a good internet connection you will get the most frustrating gaming experience you can imagine. You will have problems connecting to server, the game will lag when people shoot, when people throw smoke grenades, you will get this annoying CL_FLUSHENTITYPACKET errors that will cause you to disconnect from the server. The Sierra/Valve Netcode doesn't work well either, which means you get shot behind corners and get killed by people you don't see.

4. The guns in the game have nasty recoil, terrible recovery times and in general, they are HARD to shoot anyone with. Which means it takes a long time to figure out how to shoot, and even then hitting someone requires luck!

Now, someone might aruge that most of these will all be fixed in the 'official' release. But be aware that some of these items are intentionally put in (Items 3 & 4) while others have been around for SEVERAL betas and the mod maker has shown no interest in fixing them (Item 2).

Spend your money wisely! Because I personally would never spend a cent on this game, even though I enjoy it for free because I own a real copy of Half-Life.

Yes, the amazing Counter-Strike. I have heard about this game for many, many years, and it has suprised me quite a bit. It is a very enjoyable game, but it also instigates much anger through these pixeled graphics. While I was playing online with other anonymous people, I encountered people who used much profanity and provacative words. But this is a very obnoxious factor to a review. Now to the point. I feel this game requires some computer knowledge, a basic understanding; at least. The graphics are a bit pixely, and not the greatest, but they show quality. The gameplay is what creates most of the Counter-strike addicts. The gameplay is very vast. The many weapons and equipment alter the combinations of play, thus making the game more enjoyable. I have been playing this game for a while, maybe 6 months, and I have become pretty good at it. It is amazing how people can become so attatched to Counter-strike. I feel sometimes this is not healthy for some people, especially students. This should be a free-time game, and not an obsessive factor in one's life. That would just "...".

This game needs to be played on-line, and if you dont have a great Internet connection then you have some problems, also if other players on-line can cause you to get removed from the server for no reason causing you to not being able to play.

Counter strike is an amazing game, but this version is out of date and unstable. Avoid it at all costs. You will spend hours updating and you'll be lucky to get this game to run at all.

My Advice: Stick with DFLW

If you love laggy connectivity, game crashes, having to watch and wait for the start of another game when you die, downloading 19mb (!) patches just to get the game to run (which BTW, Sierra doesn't even bother hosting on their web site), then Half-Life Counterstrike is for you. Buggier than a picnic and, forget about trying to play it on a dial-up connection.

On the other hand, if you're looking for the best first person military style shooter out there, I highly recommend Delta Force Land Warrior. While DFLW's graphics may not be quite as crisp as HLCS, there is no comparison in all other departments.

Good, but not a great game

cs is a good game, but not a great one. I don't know how this game makes so much succes. Its graphics are bad compared to other game and there's no single-player mode. I don't have a cable modem or ASDL, and I don't have the game either, I played it on LAN. It's really fun, but if you aren't someone that lives to play computer you'll be disappointed with the difficulty level. It's almost impossible to survive playing with people that spend the whole day playing it, you have no chance against them! You can download the bots, but they play better than the human players.
In CS, the bodies lie in the air ( unlike Hitman ) and the bulletmarks are terrinly bad done. Other problem are the level names. It's not like "Tobruk", or "St. Petersburg Stakeout": they're strange names like "cs_mansion" or "aim_map_glock". When you want to make a votation, it's still worse: you have to write "admin_vote map" and the mission strange name. This games seems like it wasn't finished.
If you want a good battle game with bullets flying and no boring missions, buy Battlefield 1942 and its expanssion packs, and don't buy CS just becouse everyone says it's great.

Yo yo yo,
how is it goin down in your house? Dont buy the game. It is simply a waste of your money. CS 1.6 is good and free. Sure CZ has some pretty good bots and some updated maps with new textures. Wow big woop. It has more bugs than 1.6. Single player is simple to beat. DONT GET THIS STUPID GAME!

I think that Half-Life: Hostile Takeover will be a little bit better than the first half life, which is an exciting game. It will probably have all of the aliens that Op For has, mabye more. It might have more weapons. There will be more levels, and an awsome multiplayer! The boot camp or whatever it has will probably be longer and more complex. There will be drawbacks, maybe choppy animations. It will be harder.

bad game

this game is very bad. After i installed it, my comp kept freezing and my comp isnt even taht old. I have only had it for twelve years. After i bought this game, i went out and downloaded morpheus and got it off this server. Dont waste your money on this game. It stinks.
