you people who think that the game sucks because you have low end specs are idiots. Battlefield 1942 was the exact same way when it first came out. As soon as Dice releases a patch, this game should run as smooth as the original. I have an ati radeon 9800 graphics card so my game runs smooth, but i have seen the lag issues with less advanced chips. DONT WORRY, there will be a patch soon and then everything will be back up to 1942 status....(also the RA console will be better) all together THIS GAME IS AWSOME.

Exceptional Quality

I own Battlefield 1942 and can honestly say it's one of the best games out there right now. Insane graphics and intense gameplay are what we've come to expect from EA titles such as the "007" series and their sports lineup. Battlefield is no different.

Along with a gripping single-player mode, Vietnam offers intense online multiplayer action in which two teams collide on accurately detailed maps from the war in Vietnam.

Based on the amazing job on Battlefield 1942, Vietnam is sure to be of amazing quality, if not better than its counterpart. Keep in mind that Vietnam is not an update to Battlefield 1942, but a stand-alone game.

The only downside to the Battlefield series is how taxing it is on your computer. I have 381MB RAM, a 64MB Video Card, and a Cable modem, and I still experience lag here and there. Also, the insane amount of hard drive space it uses is a downer (Battlefield 1942 uses about 2 gigs!).

If you're looking for a good quality game though, I highly recommend Battlefield Vietnam.

Not much to it

At first, I thought this game was the best I've played in a long time! After a few day and playing both sides to the limited number of fields you can play I realized.... this game isn't all that great! Game speed goes from great to lag in no time, problem when your getting fired at when attempting to snipe. Also, the enemy will just "fall from the sky" even after you clear a zone. It would be different if I failed to clear a spot but hey, what do you do! My biggest complaint is the AI in the game. Funny story. I call for a helicopter pickup...well after a minute of the pilot trying to figure out where it is were needed, he bails in mid-air for no reason cauing me and the 4 guys I was with to plummit to the ground...dead on impact. Even better when you jump gunner on a jeep and all he does is drive into a tree...Anyhow, fun game at first! Needs more fields, better AI. Great sound, great visuals!

Guess I should have listened to some of these reviews.

This game stinks. I have Pentium IV 2.66mhz, 512ram, 128 NVIDIA Geforce FX video card, and DSL and this game stinks.

Heres what is good:

1. Great soundtrack. The music is awesome.
2. The idea. the idea is great. The way it plays out is not.

I first decided to play the single player mission to get the hang of the game. The graphics weren't very good and even this part of the game lags. The movements are jumpy and it takes along to load. So I decided to try on-line and see what it was like.

I couldn't even log onto a game because I had the wrong version. I just got the game that day and it hadn't been out long. Plus this game comes with some software called Acegain Liveupdate. It is supposed to automatically check and download any patches and updates. Well, it didn't. So I said OK to update. I waited and waited and waited and finally after 1/2 an hour, I cancelled it and went out on the internet and looked for the patch. After waiting a little over an hour, I finally got the patch and loaded it. The patch did let me enter an on-line game and it did help with the graphics, but the game was way too laggy. According to my ping, I was running less than 70 and I had the 3rd best ping out of 16 people and I still couldn't move very well. I was warping all over the place. So I tried another server and another server and after 17 tries, I found a game with only 5 other guys. And guess what? It still played like crap. Not sure how the other 5000 + people that are on everyday keep playing this, but they are.

I thought the idea of doing helicopter drops and firing weapons from a helicopter and some of the booby traps you can set sounded cool. And it looks like the maps were done very well and there was lots of potential here. But somewhere along the line something happened. And it isn't good.

I have also read some reviews here that said you had to have certain video cards and computers. Why? This game should have been made to work with computers no matter what they have as long as they meet the minimum requirements. My computer which is a Dell beats those requirements and the recommended requirements by alot. But the game still lags on single player and multi player. It is just unplayable. I have not had this problem with any other recently released games and should not have had a problem with this one. But it sounds like I am not the only one.

Having been a pretty big fan of Battlefield 1942, I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone right now. Maybe more patches are on the way but after trying to play this game for around 12-15 hours, I just can't do it anymore. I will keep checking for new patches to see if it improves, but for right now, I would tell you to wait for Battlefield 2 which is coming sometime. Until then, I will get back on-line and continue to play Medal of Honor.

The game is pretty good! The graphics are good! They reload realistically and each soldier shows their name. It also shows a list of all the voice commands you can use. If you're looking for a good/fun war game, I would highly recommend this!

this game blew me away at how much fun it is. I've played alot of the cpu games out there and this is by far the best one. You can set booby traps drop napalm and other bombs from f-4s. Theres plenty of vehicles and aircraft to satisfy even the pickiest gamer. Thank you, EAgames.

A Truely Awsome Game

First off I want to say that I've never played BF 1942 and this is my first PC shooter. But I'm no noob to the genre and I know a good game when I see one. This game is one of the most fun games I've ever played. Overall good maps, solid game play, and pretty good graphics make this game great.

Pros:
~Tons of vehicals(Helis, planes, tanks, jeeps, a moped, etc...)
~weapons are fairly balanced. I've heard some people complainign about most people just sit back with a heavy machine gun and no one uses assult class. They r so wrong, the most used class is the assault class.
~interesting and varied maps
~good graphics
~HUGE amount of replayability. Just a matter of a couple of clicks and your on the battlefield
~overall very fun and entertaining
~basically no hacking
~some of the best music in any game. A whole buch of 60's era music

Cons:
~needs a P4 2.4 GHZ processor, 1 GB RAM, and 128 MB video card to run smoothly
~some maps heavily favor one team. Although it really is only one or 2
~a good heli pilot can dominate a game
~u die by falling off a one story fall!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
~some people are really anoying
~the worst AI I've ever seen. You don't play this game for the single play, only the multiplay

There's no story but that isn't really a con.

The latest patch must have fixed many of the problems becuase this game is one of the best multiplayer shooters or Vietnam PC games out there. (Proof you say??? PC Gamer gave it a 90%). If u have a good team together it is an awsome experience(Listen up noobs, don't fly planes and helis at key moments becuase you ruin the game play for everyone else)

This game is a must buy for anyone who enjoys first person shooters. With plenty of vehicals, tight music, great maps and tons of different roles to play it is one of the best gameing experiences out there.

Peace Out!!! See you in Nam

The Positive:
Battlefield Vietnam offers a compelling experience like its predecessor, Battlefield 1942. Its graphics are top notch with fantastic detail in the buildings and foilage. New weapons such as airplanes, weapons, and helicopters are well done. The gaming experience offered by BV is greatly expanded over Battfield 1942.

The Negative:
Unfortunately, the game has many bugs and glitches. As many have noted, Battlefield 1942 was riddle with bugs as well. There seems to be rushed feel to the game with its graphical glitches, disappointing lag, and problems with certain video cards. Apparently there have been reports that the game was optimized for Nvidia's Geforce cards. I'm not sure how accurate this is bu my own experiences with a ATI 9700 radeon pro card is less than positive. Smoke, fire, and other elements are often portayed as blocks on the screen. There are a great deal of slowdowns, especially when one is near an enemy. After running the game on the lowest settings, I still find the game barely reaching an acceptable fps rating.

My conclusion:
Battlefield Vietnam offers great graphics and potential with patches to correct its glitches and bugs. If one can get passed the bugs and lag, then a great experience can be found.

My Specs:
Athlon 2000 XP
1 Gig DDR ram memory
DSL Internet connection
Ati Radeon 9700 Pro video card

Buy it for Multiplayer, not the single player campaign

Ok here is the scoop: I am a 29 year old computer gaming veteran and I love this game. NOT for the single player game. If I want a good single player campaign I play FarCry or Call of Duty. However, the multiplayer gameplay keeps me entertained to the point of drooling on my keyboard while playing for hours on end. The helicopters, the tanks, the engineering tricks (booby-traps and C4 explosives), all of these things provide a great, balanced multiplayer game.

I ran this on a 2.4GHzP4 with 512 RAM and GeForceTi4600 and did not have any issues with it. I had to turn off some of the eye-candy, but it still ran smoothly.

I now run it on a A643200+ with 1GB of RAM and a 9800Pro, I increased some of the eye-candy to see if it would look any better, and to be honest I don't notice it that much.

The point is that even with half of the "toys" turned off this game still looks and runs great on an average computer. The foliage is still there to hide in and snipe, the vhicles still look and move, and even with 30 people in the area it does not "chug".

Don't let the people who don't like the single player game disuade you from buying this game for the multiplayer aspects. Just don't expect much from the single player.

Only one tactic is used online, don't buy this game

Basically, you get really good at flying a helicopter. Then you go VC, then you steal an American helicopter. Game over. The American's have dismal anti-air capabilities (nothing handheld at this time anyway). This gives the VC the advantages of having American grade technology, and they have good hand held anti-air. Game over.
