A Great Game With Dissapointing Reviews

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1

I was a lucky one somehow. I see complaints about how it should be a 20-30 $ expansion instead of a 40-50 $ game. well, i saw it for 40$, then two days later, it was 20$, so i picked it up as a birthday present for myself. After checking to see the shipping tracking thing, i saw the game had mysteriously gone back up to 40$, which exited me. i got the game for cheap cuse someone at amazon must have done something wrong.

I started out playing the single player and was dissapointed. the AI was either too hard, or too easy on diffrent levels. So i checked out multiplayer. I was amazed. Sure, the loading times arent great, but it has good music and a little factoid thing to read for every mission. The load times are fine with me. then people complain about bad graphics, or needing high end rigs. Im playing on a 2.90 ghz, 256 Ram, 80 gigs of HD, windows xp, with the crappiest video card on this side of the atlantic (Intel Integrated graphics 2). And it plays fine. the first minute or so of gameplay is a bit laggy, but then nce i jump in the action, its fine. People complain about the use of helicopters and airplanes make it unfair, well idiots, dont stand in the open field, actually HIDE and use the forests to your advantage.

I never owned BF 1942 so i can't say this game is better or worse, but I can say, this is one fine game.

Battlefield: Vietnam is worth getting.

Many of my friends have asked me, "I have BF:1942, should I even bother getting Battlefield: Vietnam?"

My answer is yes. While Battlefield: Vietnam shares a lot of similarities to Battlefield: 1942, Battlefield: Vietnam has some features that really seperates it apart from Battlefield: 1942 and makes the game worth getting.

#1. 3D Map - This feature has been a blessing. Tired of killing your teammates? Or having to check the 2D map(which blocks view of the game)? Well this feature is for you. It draws small icons onto the screen, showing you where teammates, flags, ammo boxes, and even medical containers are, without even having to press a button again, aside from turning it on.

#2. Better graphics - Now, graphics won't make or break a game, but in Battlefield: Vietnam's case this means more foilage. Transation: More cover. You can hide easier, set up a sniping spot easier, etc..

#3. Helicopters - These can be a blast to fly! The controls of a helicoper take some getting used to, and you will crash in the beginning, but keep at it! You will become good soon enough, and be flying like a pro! Helicopters fly way different than the Air Planes in Battlefield: 1942(obviously), so it's a whole new experience.

#4. More support - Battlefield: 1942 has probably seen it's last patch. Battlefield: Vietnam is even getting an official mod made by EA/DICE that will be a few of the popular maps of Battlefield: 1942 redone with the new Battlefield: Vietnam engine, providing even more reason to get this game.

So, get this game, and we'll see ya online.

Having fun

I am having a lot of fun with this game. I played the heck out of BF1942 and DC/EOD mods.

I have a p4 2.5ghz
1GB of RAM
Radion 9800 (non pro) 128mb

With less than 1GB of RAM it can get REALLY nasty.
After installing 1GB My load times were cut to 20 seconds or so from 60 seconds.

You can have fun playing now but if you are leary, wait for the first patch.

Doesn't live the hype

Has great load time (slower than 1942, yet faster than DC), graphics are supurb (even on the lowest settings), and playing choices are numerous. It is better than its predecesor in gameplay. The only things that keep it from a 5 star, are the lack of a campaign, a few graphical errors (with shadows on all units have about 10 shadows surrounding them), and the extremely short instructional booklet helps very little.

Vietnam's BF1942

I was so excited to get this game, I was ready for a whole new game from EA.
I was really disappointed when I got it. It is Battlefield 1942 with a few improvements:
1) You can see how long it will take for the flag to change
2) It uses a "3D Map", basically it marks all your allies on the screen for you so there's less friendly fire
3) You can shoot out of vehicles
4) You can play music in vehicles
5) New weapons and vehicles.

If you have Battlefield 1942, think long and hard about buying this. It isn't bad, it's just not that much better than BF1942.
If you don't have BF1942 and would like a superb 1st person shooter, this is the one for you.

Disappointing

Very disappointing, specially coming from the guys at EA who created the Medal of Honor series. The original Battlefield was original and fun to play, but very low quality graphics and play control. Battlefield Vietnam is no better, just different weapons and maps, they may have updated the engine a bit, but the game runs slow and is prone to bugs. I bought Battlefield Vietnam hoping that it would be much better then the original, but I was disappointed. There is another one coming out, but I think I will wait awhile before buying that one.

Pretty Fun, Questionable Value

Battlefield Vietnam has about a dozen or so single player missions. Gameplay is good but not great. AI is very weak. Weapons are fun. Graphics are 8/10, need fast system. Overall, some good gaming but not really worth the price more like an add-on.

What this game is and isn't

First of all, I would like to clarify that I have never played the single player campaign for any of the Battlefield series. It must be stated that the battlefield games were most certainly not made for the single player. Kind of like Counter-Strike. This game was meant to be played online, and if you aren't playing it as such then you aren't experiencing its true greatness. This game is an almost perfect addition to the battlefiled series that was produced by EA instead of the fans this time. With the purchase of this game, you should understand full and well that the only thing you are to pay attention to is the little item choice called multiplayer. The graphics are good as far as online centric FPS games go. I would recomend this to anyone that wants to enter into or expand their play in the multiplayer FPS genre. This is one of those LAN party type of games only good with other people and it is a very good change in pace to my favorite Battlefield franchise. My only complaint, and the reason it is four and not five stars, is that the helicopters are much more toned down over the ones in the fan mod Desert Combat. My favorite part of battlefield is the helicopter combat and the ones found here are sluggish and are more utilitarian in nature. Happy Fragging. ^_^

Good but not Great

i gave this game 3 of 5 for a couple of reasons. the gameplay is the same for the most part as BF1942 and the graphics are better. the ai is fairly decent as long as u customize it and put the bots up. some people on here are complaining that it slows down your computer than obviously your computer is crap. i have an alienware area51 extreme this is why it doesnt suck. if your PC meets minimal requirements DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. if your computer exceeds the requirements you will have no problems so BUY THIS GAME. it is full of action with vietnam era songs weapons and realistic terrain. the music is outstanding on the loading screens and the online play is outstanding. everything on this game is good but not great and if u like war games you will like this

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME, GO DOWNLOAD A MOD INSTEAD

I wish that I hadn't wasted my time or money. They orginal 1942 with its 3 expansions run great, this however does not. VERY VERY POOR QUAILTY. AND 3 CDS??????? WTF?????

I wish I had not wasted my money nor my time driving to get this item.

Download a mod like Desert Combat for a good add - on for BF1942..
