Work Out Your Frustrations on Foul Demons!

"Diablo" is a game I played a couple of years ago as a demo, which only covered the first level of play. Following a course in Gothic literature, and eager to cleanse myself of the genre, I recently went out and bought the full version of "Diablo". I remained rooted to my desk chair for 8 hours that day. Lo, how many demons did I slay that proud day! 'Addictive' does not adequately describe the power this game wields over your mind.
Each level, randomely rendered, offers progressively stranger and more ridiculously named weapons and armour. One of the most appealing features of the game is the hands-on quality of the gameplay. It is extremely engaging for a role-playing game, and hand to hand combat against the foulest corruptions of the pit allows you to work out your daily frustrations as you play.
The music in the over-world scenes is lovely and haunting, while the deeper you go into the labyrinth below the town church, the music becomes more sparse, accentuating the death-cries of the demons.
I have a very slow computer, and the game still runs flawlessly. This, I believe, is the best part of "Diablo". If you own a computer made in the last 5 years, you are assured of outstanding gameplay and unending fascination and entertainment.
Great game if you love hack-n-slash!

I used to be a huge fan of Rogue and Nethack. Although simpler in many ways, this game reproduces some important parts of those games, with great graphics to boot. It satisfied my urge for a simple D&D hack-n-slash game with great gameplay, spell effects, etc. Good for countless hours of mindless amusement.

Starcraft was the first game the I bought that was created by blizzard. Once I had experienced the quality of the game it made me go hunting for more games. I bought Diablo in the year 1998, and was addicted. Sure the pixels were huge, but it was the best RPG I had ever played. The graphics did not matter since the temptation to go down those stairs was too great to resist. One more level of wimpy deamons must be cleared out I said to myself. Blizzard created a masterpiece since the gameplay, and the game atmosphere was alluring to the extreme. It convinced me that graphics are puny compared to the addictive nature of the game. Sure Quake II had colored lighted, but the gameplay lived on. Quake II will be a technological benchmark, but not runner up in the most addictive game prize. Diablo kept you coming back to "beat the game" since it employs a randomization Algorithm. This means that you are driven to continue playing in hope of finding the keenest blade, the most devestating smell, or the finest armor, and the ugliest deamon. It also has three different classes of characters which are unique. I continue to play this excellent game, and am looking foward to Diablo II. Diablo II keep all the good stuff from Diablo, and add more good ideas to make Diablo II a authentic sequel. Do not rate Diablo by its age, but by it quality. Sure its 2000, but everyone should try to find old games that make them marvel at the constant innovation that occurs in the PC gaming industry Buy the game since Blizzard never delivered a unfinished piece of junk to us gamers.

Single player is fantastic, but playing Diablo online (multiplayer) is terrible. Cheaters and hackers have ruined online gameplay, the only way to survive is to cheat as well (godmode+more). It's not much of a game after that. Good News though, Diablo II should be cheat/hack free.

I have had Diablo for about 2 or 3 years now and I still play the multiplayer (I even play the single player occasionaly). Exploring dungeons, killing hideous monsters, getting stronger, and learning new abilities has never been so fun. There's only 3 character classes but there cool character classes. You'v got your Strong and brave Warrior, you have your incredibly accurate master of archery, the Rouge, and you of course have to have the magic dude, the Sorcerer. The game offers great challenges, however some of the bosses were easy, especialy Diablo. I'm not saying I didn't break a sweat when fighting him, I just expected him to be stronger. Uh, but when you meet the Butcher, be ready to get very mad because you will probably die the first 6 fights (remember to save your game often!!). Multiplayer can be really fun, but somtimes those stupid hackers ruin everything. If you download anti crashes (protects you from being crashed), or god mode ( invincibility that keeps you from being killed by other players), the hackers won't bother you too much, thus letting you have a much funner game :) I havn't played Diablo 2, but I have watched a friend play it and it looks great. Ill have to buy it somtime. Oh, and if you like gore in your games there's alot of it in here. Like when you kill a zombie, its body parts fall off and some flesh and blood splatters on the wall, or when one of those horned demons die, their chest splits open and blood just goes everywhere. And don't think the dungeons and all the other levels are going to be clean and happy, because they are made up of bodys, heads, arms, and everything stuck on spikes, or dead bodys chained to walls. And it's kinda disturbing when you walk into the Butchers "kitchen", because theres blood, organs, and body parts scrawled all over the floor. This is definatelly not a game for kids AT ALL. The graphics and sound are good considering how old the game is. This is no doubt one of the best RPGs to ever grace the pc. A must buy!!!
Awesome, but slow at times.

Like everybody else, this game rocks ! Nice charactor classes, plus the game randomly changes it's dungeons everytime you start a new game! But the only quirk is that it gets slow. IF you go 3 levels down without a town portal spell, you have to walk three stories up! Also the quests are one sided- you kill monsters you get a item, it gets slow. But if you stick with it, you will enjoy it immensly!
An addictive classic!!!

I haven't played this game in several years and picked it up a couple of weeks ago. The reason I picked up this game over everything else is that it is soooo cheap. What other game offers so much for ten bucks??!?!?
The best thing about Blizzard is Battle.Net, which is free after you purchase the game. This adds so much value to this game and really makes it a lot of fun to play. It doesn't take long to find some companions and go into the dungeons killin' uglies. Sometimes you need to look out for the player killers, but there is always somebody there willing to help somebody out.
Another good thing is that it doesn't require much knowledge to play. Just play it for a few minutes and then it all makes sense. It's ease of use of the features is a very strong plus.
Finally, the replay value is enormous. The dungeons are never the same and there are many quests you can go on to keep on challenging you.
A great game. It has an 'M' for its violence and gore, but this rating really surprises me as there is no blood and the graphics are not that detailed.

For all you Diablo fans who just go nuts over this game I say, "get a friggin' life!" You people must work on assembly lines or in factories where your jobs are boring and redundant, because that's what this game is. All the dungeon levels look the same and there's only a few different monsters.....I just don't get it. Call me goofy, but I like games with exciting gameplay, a variety of different-looking scenes and monsters, and LESS redundancy! After I got to the fifth dungeon level and was doing the EXACT same thing as on level one, I went bonkers. Gimmie a friggin' break!!!
This looks familiar...

Okay, I'm about to make myself really unpopular here, but I just didn't like Diablo. I'm sorry, but I seem to remember a game called Gauntlet back in the mid-80s that offered this same gameplay. Don't get me wrong, Gauntlet was an okay game... for its time. Then Electronic Arts made a Guantlet rip-off called "Demon Stalkers" which offered the same gameplay but with a level editor. Well, Diablo doesn't even have that. Sure, the graphics are nicer now (though the colors are a little drab), and the music is better, but come on! The whole game consists of frantically clicking on sprites till they explode into a bloody mess.

First of all, this game is great. I really enjoy it. However, it is a little tedious at parts, and sometimes the guys outpower you (DON'T be the sorcerer starting out), but the game is good. If you like Dungeons & Dragons, this game is really similar, only it doesn't take hours to get through 1 level of a dungeon. There's some great items, you can interact with the characters really well, and the items and weapons are fabulous.
I gave this 3 stars only because I made a bad mistake...I played Diablo 2 first. I was REALLY disappointed that it wasn't as good as it. I know it's unfair to make judgement on one game based on it's sequel, but if you have Diablo 2, or are thinking of getting it, play Diablo FIRST, or don't play it at all.
Good luck, and have fun!
