If you are a star trek nut like me this is the game for you
Spock couldn't have made a better game even though he came back from the dead I couldn't have seen that coming myself! Spock is such a great guy! McCoy was the best doctor he could mend anything from a space rash to a bird of prey attack. The way Kirk escaped the GIANT PLANET EATER! is amazing! They needed more Spock in this video game more he is the best he is also as cool as Picard he is the best! This game is good. But Star Trek the show is much much better. Live Long and Prosper.

SP rocks, MP is a dud

Well, as my subject heading says, the single player was pretty darn good, with the multi-player being quite a disapointment (I'll get to my reasoning in a moment).

SP had a good plot, graphics, map design, character interaction, etc., etc, that I believe is just as good, if not better, than the first game's SP (designed by Raven). Ritual definitely spent most of their efforts on this part of the game. The weapons and maps were nice and varied, the bosses nice and tough, and the character interactions (especially when the NPCs talked amongst themselves) quite entertaining. The love triangle aspect of the plot was also a nice touch. The only bad thing I can say about it was your team AI. They were not much use throughout the game, and most of the time, you went off alone to do your own thing. I was wishing for a bit more involvement on their part.

Now... as for the MP part. First, let me say that I am/was a big fan of EF1's multi-player. It absolutely rocked. EF's CTF was so addicting that I spent many a hours trying to get MVP and win the game for my team. To sum up quick, just about the best online game I have ever played.

So, to be fair, EF1s MP basically ruined EF2s MP for me. I had such high expectations. I wanted to believe that EF2 was just going to be an update on an already great game. Boy, was I wrong. It took less than a minute on a server to realize everything was different. The physics, movement, fire rate, weapons, power-ups, etc., were all changed. I don't think it's a matter of getting used to it. It just felt "wrong" and counterintuitive. I tried it for one night, and just game up after that.

I figure if you have never played EF1, you might be able to jump into EF2's MP easier than myself, but I think it's a waste of time. On a side note, on Ritual's support forum, Ritual had mentioned the possibility of a MP patch to make it more accessible. However, as I write this review, there is some sort of lawsuit between Activision and Ritual. So basically, any mention of a patch has died. IMHO, the patch itself is dead too.

There's also grumbling from the EF community abour releasing the source code (or GDK or something like that) so modders can get their hands on it and "fix" it themselves. No word on if that will happen.

To sum it up again, SP was great, MP was a stinker. You decide which is more important to you.

Full of bugs. Slow to load and save. Becomes very boring after a short period.

Great Concept

This game is a great concept, and with a bit more work it could have been an outstanding game. Visually it was quite stunning, the only problem I could see was that your first officer didn't "Look you in the eye." Her eye graphics always seemed to be looking elsewhere when talking to you. Minor problem I know, but something that irked me everytime I saw my number one on the screen.

AI also seemed to be a problem. as two examples, Your AI tactical officer would only fire torpedoes when they were set to single fire. When you tell your Science officer to scan the system he would generally fail to pick up anything significant, except when it was scripted for you to find something, even when you have enemy ships shooting at you!

My four biggest disappointments in order are: 1) No manual saves. The only time you can save is when finish a mission (and this is an autosave). If you fail the mission, "Oh well, you have to do the whole thing over, including scripted dialogues." 2) The First officer seems to be a built in snitch. If you fail to accomplish any task, even a task as insignificant and non-game affecting as saving a drifting freighter, she calls the Admiral and you get fired. No second chance, no chance to work it through without that information or get the info another way...just game over. 3) In tactical mode there isn't a "gun sight" You have no way of knowing where your phasers and torpedoes are going to fire without actually firing them. 4)The intercept command under the helm officer's menu seemed to work only sporatically. This a major problem since you need to use that command atleast twice to win the game.

Despite my problems with the game, it was enjoyable. I would just buy it used if I were going to buy it again.

Awesome!

This game is the best game I've every played. And it's much better than Voyager Elite Force, which was good, but it lacked things that are in Elite Force 2. I wish that they'd stop giving the players non Federation guns. The Federation should stick to using their own weapons. That's just how I feel anyways. I know that the Arc Gun saved me a few times. And the Quantum Burst kills me more than it kills the enemy. The Compression Rifles are my favorite. As for my favorite mission... The Attrexian Station (donno the actual name of it). The worst... That swamp planet you crash on. It was a good idea to have a swamp scene, but it wasn't very detailed. Well, I stop now. PLAY THE GAME.

It Gave Me A Major Headache!

I am highly dissappointed in this sequel. The ships/bases are not as realistic as the first game and the firepower is not as realistic as the first game. This game didn't even come with an instruction manual! I love the instant action of the first game but the sequel is horrible. I have tried to give this game a chance but after wasting 7 hours I'm through. I literally thought I was going to get sick. Do not waste your money on this. The new technology and the addition of the Cardassian and Species 8472 is not worth it. The Maps are not even as good as the first game! The 3D view isn't worth it either, gave me a migraine. I repeat, NOT AS REALISTIC as the first game! I'm going back to the first game and I'm going to try to pawn part II off on someone else.

Star Trek Elite Force 2

If I had a choice, I would Elite Force before I play this game. I wanted forever but the game is not bad. The game requires you to do a lot of baby-sitting and you are compressed to time. The tricoder has to be used a lot like to find energy terminals and health terminals. The game offers a variety of people or things to shoot at. The problem or the good news is that you have to spend a lot of time by yourself, the game is quite clever because the different team members doing some of the thinking but you can't shoot them or hurt them like you did in the other elite force game. When you did in that game, they would turn around and shoot you and even if you killed them, the game didn't allow to go on but that is not a problem in this game. Last, the game is not a very good game to be basing on the series. Picard and Barclay are the only people from TNG and Tuvok is brought back as well.

A true star trek game.

If the full version is anything like the demo, Activision will almost certainly score big with EF2. This game has the potential to be the best selling Trek game of all time. I think the fan base will eat it up, and all FPS lovers alike will enjoy it even if they are not into Trek. I am very impressed with the demo, and anxiously await the release of the full version this week.

The Levelord LOVES this game!
