Boring Game ...

Hi,

I'm a newbie at this game genre. The only other Role Playing Game I've played is Morrowind which isn't online. I had a lot of fun playing Morrowind. It was easy to learn and it kept me up for many late nights of game playing. Eventually I got bored with the lack of good character interaction so I decided to try AC2.

I've been playing AC2 for a couple of days now and unfortunately I'm bored to death. This game hasn't gotten its hooks into me the way that Morrowind did. I know I need to do more reading on how AC2 works but at this point I'm really questioning whether its worth the investment of my time. I bought this game to have fun. If I wanted to study I would have signed up for a distance education course.

Anyway, to sum it up, for newbies like me this game isn't very engaging.

Also, many people are talking about how "fantastic" the graphics are in the game. I don't get it. I've got an ATI 9700 Pro running on a 2.5ghz machine with 512mgs of 1066 rdram. I've installed the game's high resolution graphics and set every grahics option to "High". In my opinion the graphics are "ok". Personally, I felt the graphics for Morrowind were much better.

From a 2 1/2 year AC1 player.....

I eagerly anticipated this 2nd generation online roleplaying game. Having been playing AC1 since beta 2 I am very familiar with the original.

After having played the beta version of this game since August I am majorly disappointed. My machine is a very quick gaming pc with a Radeon 9700 pro and still the game at times just crawls. A lot of the eye candy has to be turned off in order to get a decent frame rate.

The graphics are beautiful but this wears off after half an hour. It is the game play that is important.

The gameplay blows. Fighting is too simple. It is as if this game was designed to be ported to X-Box. Simple, simple simple. Chat [is useless]. Type is hard to read at whatever resolution I have played at. Kingdom vs kingdom during the final End of Beta Event brought out glaring errors in balance and design.

Of course this will all be fixed, during retail. Microsoft expects us to continue on with a paid beta testing program now that the game is being rushed into retail before it is ready.

Sound errors are still common with many players and the dynamic new updates which were promised have also disappointed during the End of Beta event.

This special event has done nothing that wasn't done in AC1. But at least in AC1 it was done a little better.

I cannot recommend this game to anyone. Those that do get it and continue to test this game, all the while paying for the bugs to be worked out, will soon tire of it and jump onto the next MMORPG, probably SWG.

Am I [ticked]at this game. Certainly! I had hoped for a truly next generation MMORPG and I find myself not playing it even though it is free, at least until two days from now when the beta ends. This game is a major let down. Stay away from it and save your money for something that is truly new.

I play Asheron's Call, and I love the game. So when offered the beta test for Asheron's Call 2, I jumped at the chance to try it out. One word describes the game....BORING. I have never been so bored when trying to play any game. The graphics are pretty but....the game play is horrible. I gave up on playing the beta because I saw it as a complete waste of time. I know it is definately not worth the price they have set for it for when it comes out.

Been playing the Beta now for about 1 week having a background like most from one MMORPG to the next UO, EQ, AC1, DAOC, etc. From reading the other reviews some saying the Game is FANTASTIC to its all horribly wrong. In my opinion its is somewhere in the middle. First the game looks fantastic however at the cost of steep sys requirements (as of beta 2.1) even with Geforce 4 ti 4600 512Megs of DDR and a modest Athlon 1800 it lags with more than 5 people in the same area. Now the graphics are highly scalable which comes in handy to smooth out the rough spots but its so darn pretty with all the options on. ;) As for game play the basic fact is that altho its not frustrating it is repetative. Grouping doesnt help since say if u get 10exp from one kill solo... grouping now splits that 10exp 50x50 for each player. Get 4 peeps in that in group and its 25x25x25x25 or basically 2.5exp per kill. Now this wouldnt be soo bad if it where not for the large exp cost to lvl above 15th. The combat is repeatitive and skill usage can be frustrating (unless your an archer) due to the fact that most mobs can hit you before your even close enough to strike. Archers have an advantage over all since their long range can strike mobs well off the radar and still hit which is why Archers Call 2 wouldnt be a bad name due to the large archer population. Craft began as fun but now has degraded to extremely frustrating due to the ultra rare trophy required to make items as well as the fact that mastering and craft does not make u any better at it, failing just as often before you master the craft as after. The skill trees are kind fun to play around with but there is no balance in skills and everyone tends to lean towards what works over what doesnt which leads to lots of the same ole people with the same ole skills. Loot is plenty but 99.9 precent of it you will either convert to gold or give away to lower lvls who are trying to raise crafting. Magic items are extremely rare which isnt bad but I have yet to find one that can beat a player made item which is a shame since most of the magic partical effects look great. The story line is a great idea but the dungeons are not challenging at all and most of the time your just run through to the end without being hit once then stand in line or try to kill steal the boss so you can exit to get your exp bonus. However AC2 with all its shortcomings (ie. its still beta) has a certain flavor which even though with repeatition and frustration I still find myself going back to the ruined world of Dereth. Check out simpleton's call 2 review... his list of problems with the game are accurate and will seriously deter alot of peeps from playing or push alot of users away after a few weeks of play. Only 1 month to go lets hope the AC2 dev team has a more complete version they are not showing us!

"Say, where is everybody?"

This review can save you a lot of time: This game is dead, dead, dead. Nobody on it, little to no meaningful interaction with those on it. If you pick a side, expect to get steamrolled by a maxed char pretty quick. The quests can be entertaining, and it might not be so bad if there was a decent population, but the lights are on, and nobody's home.

Beta...YES......Better than AC1.....no

I have been an AC player for a long time. I have 2 accounts. One character is level 71 and another is 69. I have been playing AC2 beta on and off for a couple of months. At this point, all I can say...THE GRAPHICS ARE AWESOME....that's it. The game play is terrible...you can't control how your warrior fights in battle...the chat screen is like a HUD on an F-15 and hard to see. I hope the developers include much more of AC1... play wise.....otherwise...I will just stay in AC1 and someday when AC2 is what I want it to be...then I will be there.

There are only 2 things I liked about this game. The graphics and the crafting system.

The worst thing about this game is t he combat system. The combat system is based solely on items, and skill level has little to no effect on combat effectiveness with primary attacks. Special attacks do become more effective as the skill gets higher.

This game lacks content to keep the players attention.

AC2 is a must see...

but not for me. I have played AC1 since it released, and was absolutely immersed. The game play was just the right balance of complexity to be fun and interesting. Having played AC2 Beta I am compelled to agree with the negative posts on several key points, and one positive point. The positive point is the graphics - absolutely a must see, but thats about it. Pretty to look at but not the complexity and engaging game play of AC1. I am not talking about evolving story line and such - I know it is beta and many things are 'missing' still. However, the combat system is droll and unintersting - just click and wait for the outcome (Keep in mind this is from an AC1 player with 4 accounts). So, if the goal was to create an interesting engaging game play then it failed. If the goal was to draw other similar MMORP players to AC2 then perhaps it will succeed to the extent they are similarly dumbed down but provide lower quality graphics. If, as an earlier comment stated, AC1 players are 'supposed' to be dissapointed then it will succeed at that too. If the finished product has the same dull game play then as a paying customer I will take my 4 AC1 accounts elsewhere .

Scale of dissapointment (1-10)

This game has changed a lot since release, there is now a 4th landmass, new skills available at higher levels and the level cap has effectively been removed. Populations, while not huge are steady and there is never any difficulties finding others to fellow with.

This game is only going to get better, there is plenty of quests/content to get started with, and with new content being added every month, the world will continue to grow.

There are bugs, as there are in many games, but they are being addressed over time, and none have a significant impact on game enjoyment. Many gamers are disillusioned by the early problems expereinced by AC2 and continue to give it a bad wrap - they dont realise, its not the game it once was.

Nice Graphics, Weak Gameplay

This game can only get better but, that will take many fixes and patches. I would suggest checking this game out in late 2004 or early 2005 after its been around a while and most or all of the bugs have been fixed and the game content has been tweaked. As for now, its under populated, lots of bugs and, well, boring. Its too easy and lacks the ability of characters to be truly unique. Awesome graphics, but if your using a slower, older system and a dial-up modem ...... Forget it!

This game is just not ready for prime time...
