I may be new to this whole thing but.....

I'm a Counter-Strike player. I love live-action, hardcore, adrenaline racing, screaming and swearing, Counter-Strike type games. Quake3, Jedi Knight 2, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, etc. These are my kind of games. I saw this beta in a weekly email I get, so I figured I would try it. I like Final Fantasy sure, but I figured this would get boring, or just be [weak] to begin with. Well I was completely wrong. We all agree that the environments are beautiful, but I for one thing the whole game is amazing. I am an official addict, and the only cure will be in November when this college student can't afford to pay-to-play. The interface may be a bit clunky and awkward at times, but the sheer magnitude of character development is amazing. This isn't just about monster hunting and hack-and-slash. This is an MMORPG, see that ends with RPG, meaning that Interaction between Players is a key part of the game. You form a Community, an Allegiance, a Kingdom, or whatever. If you want a game that combines beautiful (stunning even) visuals, an extremely wide variety of ways to develop your character as an individual, and a strong social system (RPG, remember, it's an RPG), then I HIGHLY recommend this game. And this is only the beta I've been playing......

AC1 upgraded

Been playing AC1 since beta and AC2 off and on in beta. AC2 makes a lot of improvements over AC1. It actually imcorporates many of the third party apps used in AC1. I like the trade skill system in AC2 compared to AC1. You are able to make weapons, armor, etc... from items you find on monsters. The quality of items you make increases with practice. Graphic wise, AC2 is a huge improvement over AC1. The game play is, nontheless, very similar to AC1 and nothing at all like Diablo. It may be similar to DAoC, never played that one. There seem to be more towns, land mass and areas to explore than AC1. No doubt I'll buy it eventually, but not ready to give up AC1 quite yet.

Not an extension of AC1, but an entirely different game...

After reading the reviews, you're probably confused - not knowing who is real and who is an employee of Turbine. The true fact of the matter is that when AC1 came out several years ago it was something totally different from what was out there. People who enjoyed the new "style" of game left the EQs, the UOs, and the other MMORPGs and migrated to AC1. But... Some stayed with the "old style" preferring it over AC1. So the powers to be decided to try to create a game that would appeal to them... AC2 is that game. That is why hardcore players of AC1 don't like AC. AC2's "style" of play is similar to what they left to play AC1, but people who play the other games will find AC2 to be a vast improvment. AC2 is the nicest MMORPG out there (unless you like AC1). Graphix are outstanding and the game is just plan pretty. Download the BETA and see for yourself. Turbine and Microsoft are trying to have the best of both worlds. Most AC1 players will stay with AC1, while (they hope) a hole new customer base will play AC2.

Shaping up nicely

Excellent graphics, crisp interaction, decidedly short on bug's (compared to some live games). Game play a little short on content... at the moment. It's only at beta but it's still more playable than a host of the current MMORPG's. A few months down the line and I'm sure Turbine will have filled the world with a lot more content. I personally look forward to roaming the brave new world. Excellent job Turbine... well done.

That all said... Microsoft how about cutting your European customers some slack. A game release on different dates is understandable (shipping time etc.), but how about giving us the pre-order offer that Amazon.com have but with Amazon.co.uk. A chance to register an Avatar name at the same time as everyone else is a great incentive to game sign up. Don't alienate your loyal foreign customers.

At first I thought "there's no way i'll quit AC 1 for this".But it being in beta, and remembering other beta games I have played,I stuck with it.In the past month the game has made amazing strides forward. In both content and features, graphics are the best i've seen.
If all you do is kill monsters, yes it's boreing. The vault campanes and quests are better than any I have seen in the other games I have played,UO,EQ,and AC 1.
If you go in and just play a day or 2 you can't a true feel for the game, give it a week and you'll be hooked.Like to play music, dance, craft items that you can actually use ?,it's in there.
I for one will be going to AC 2 when it goes retail.

AC1 vs AC2

I know AC1 very well, I have been playing it since the 2nd beta version came out. I can truthfully say that AC2 is much more noobie friendly than AC1 will ever be, even though they-Turbine-have taken dramatic steps in improving this aspect of the game. AC1 is a breed all to itself, and so is AC2, they are two entirely different games! I really believe that Turbine ment AC2 not as a sequel, but as a totally new type of gaming experience. So to compare AC1 with AC2 is like comparing Micheal Jordan to Babe Ruth, you just can't do it.
AC2 has an entirely new and innovative society structure, financial system, and character creation system. There are the obvious similarities, like the world still being Dereth, but other than that, and a few drudges-who themselves have a part in the "old world's" destruction-things are totally different.
There are no npc's, in fact the closest thing I have seen to a NPC in AC2 are the quest givers, and those are few and far between.
I'm not going to get into too much detail about AC2, suffice it to say that this is a new breed of game, one that rewards fellowships, and the lone wolves. Not only is the game beautiful, but it is more dynamic than AC1. It is more challenging than AC1, and -Thank you God- there are NO MACRO's ALLOWED! ;o)

This game is currently in beta form, so these reviews should take that into account. The graphics are stunning, although the current card in the requirements are Nvidia Gforce family of cards.
I have been playing during the slow times on the internet so I really have had no problems with lag, although I've heard people talking about it when I'm on. Also the system requirements are quite steep at this time ... I'm currently running a P III 450 with 384 MB RAM and a Nvidia Gforce2 MX 400, and my system only had problems with the initial downloads as I'm only using a 56k modem.

AC 2 is nothing like the first one.

I played asherons call 1 for the better part of 3 years. awsome game. the game play is what made it so fun, there were no limits on how skilled you could become at combat. eaven tho hit points wher involved there wher limitles techneques to takeing down an oponent. the spells wher projectile aswell as arrows. dodgeing was something u had to be good at to servive in the more advanced parts of the game. ac 2 was nouthing like it. most of the spells are allmost impossible to dodge game play is completely diffrent. you cant turn and run away in a battle with out considerable delay the higher lvl you get you do not become faster. running betwine places if needed takes for ever. fellowship is apsolutely essential in the lower lvls. u cant go solo at all if u are to make any probress. it is a completely diffrent game. more like dark age of camelot.
it just doesant give you the freedom that the first asherons call gave you. outher then these things. the graphics are outstanding and realistic in every way.

DO NOT BUY USED VERSIONS OF THIS GAME

If you are thinking of purchasing a previously owned version of the game, make sure that the CD Key has never been registerd. If it has, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY. The CD Key is tied to a personal email address and password. There is no way to undo it. I learned this the hard way.

The game is worth paying the extra money for a new copy. I have enjoyed the improvements. I played a free trial upon release and recently purchased the full version. The improvements are vast.

I still like AC1 and play that too, but this is a really nice alternate game.
