Do you know Star Fox Adventures?

...What would you say if I were to tell you about a super awesome video game that is being developed by one of the best game developers in the world, Rare Ltd., and using the latest mind-blowing graphics and drooling animation like you've never seen before in your entire little life?!! The game also features huge and beautiful landscapes to explore, plenty of character-to-character interactions, uncountable movie-like cut scenes, real-to-life voice-overs, and so much more...And not to mention the spectacular real-time fur rendering, the well composed musical scores, and the intriguing story line that'll keep you at your toes...and the title? Star Fox Adventures, only for Nintendo GameCube.

This is one [heck] of a game!!!!

This game is just awesome. It shows that Gamecube has its potentials of making great games like these. The graphics were amazing. Every detail on Fox McCloud is shown. His hair, his clothes, eyes, and other physical features. The game is played with a crisp image and the controls are very nice indeed. Many of the effects were realistic. Maybe too realistic. This game is pretty graphic for the ages of 11 and under. I don't recommend children under the age of 11 play this game. But for the teens, I have an exception, being a teen and all. THis game gives off great video dubbing and pertrays a great storyline and plot. I would say the most important thing about this game for real gamers is how fun the game is and asking him/herself if this portrays a distinct quality that person enables. As Ebert And Rouper would say.... TWO THUMBS UP!

This gorgeous looking game proves to be a nice getaway from the traditional Star Fox space battle games. All though it takes pretty much all of it's playing content from the Zelda series, Star Fox Adventures is an enjoyable video game with beautiful graphics, great sound, an intriging plot and high replay value. It's quite a lengthy game, so it's worth every bit of your money.

A good game, but not for Star Fox

I've been a Star Fox fan from the first, So of course I was very interested in this game, although I had some reservations when I read about all the changes they had made to the story.
I'm sure not many people are actually concerned about the Star Fox characters themselves, and are only concerned about individual games, but this game was a huge departure from the norm of the series. Fox himself was changed from a charitable do-gooder to a money hungry mercenary. Since the story was set in the future a bit, it made sense to age Peppy a bit, and drop Slippy to a mechanics role, but they completely wrote out Falco because they simply had nowhere to put him. The last minute writing of the story is very apparent, especially during the ending movie of the game.
From what i've read, the original premise of the story was to have Krystal and Sabre be the two main characters. Krystal had her staff, and fought much like Fox does in this game, and Sabre had his own repertoire of fighting moves. The story was much different and there was a set up for a romance between the two. It sounded like a great game.
But then Rare was bought out, and Nintendo hastily bought the rights to the game by changing it into a Nintendo franchise, namely, Star Fox.
The story is so threadbare where the Star Fox team is included, you can almost feel the chills... and poor Krystal got yanked from the spotlight to being trapped in an... er... crystal... for the entire game. the acting on Fox was decent, and I actually enjoyed the character, but the rest of the acting was almost embarassing, especially when Krystal was using the dino-language. I shudder to think of it. Fox using MAGIC because they won't give him his blaster because "he's not there to blow the planet up"...?? what the heck???
As for the game itself, it's great. The first time. The animation is awesome and the fighting was very enjoyable for me because I love quarterstaves. The puzzles are pretty fun, and not too tough. The story was good, except where it was very obviously patched into a star fox game. The arwing missions are ridiculously easy and may as well have been left out of the game altogether. they're an obvious attempt to appease traditional star fox fans. Overall the game feels exactly like Zelda, except not nearly as epic.
The bad... The combat is basically just mashing the button. There is no skill involved. The puzzles, while easy, frequently stymied me. Not becuase the puzzle was hard... but because the panel i needed to press was hidden in some obscure location i would NEVER have looked in. So if you dont turn around and look t the ceiling behind you, you're stuck there forever unless you cheat. Some of the puzzles are yanked straight from Zelda too, like firing through a flame to activate a switch.
Tricky.... is the most annoying sidekick in the history of video games. I Do NOT want a dino-child following me around, shouting "Look at THIS!!! haha hahaha!!!" and begging for food all the time. not to mention the obligatory being KIDNAPPED and needing me to go save his useless butt... grr. The scene where you say goodbye to Tricky was so sappy I had to go rinse my mouth out afterwards, too... ugh.
Also annoying was the little scene that played EVERY TIME you pick up an item. I don't need to see this ridiculous expression on Foxs' face and the little fanfare EVERY TIME.. thank you.
And then the final battle. I will attempt to not ruin it for anyone, but if you've played ANY star fox game, this is an incredible let down. Can we say "unoriginal"? I knew you could. Not only that, but the controls on the Game Cube make it insanely difficult. Not difficult as in, needing skill... difficult as in "this controller broke my barrel roll AGAIN and I have to start over AGAIN now... AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!"... the way the L and R buttons work make barrel rolling difficult (the two click system means to barrel roll, you must push it down rapidly, but NOT all the way down or you simply roll to the side and stay there...) and barrel rolling is the ONLY way to win the final fight.
I enjoyed the game the first time though. And except for possibly playing the game through to show my neices the next time I visit them, I will not be playing it again... sadly. I suggest renting the game. You'll enjoy it once, and probably won't play it again either.
I have high hopes for Star Fox armada though... crossing fingers!

I CAN'T WAIT!

This game is going to be awesome! It's not just going to be battling in star ships. It's a whole new adventure on Dino Planet! The graphics look amazing (you can see individual hairs on Fox)! It looks like the game will have "z" targeting when battling against enemies, just like the Zelda games for N64. This game is going to be more like an RPG, but I'm pretty sure you'll still get to fly in ships. It's just not the main focus of the game anymore. Plus, it's made by Rare! One of the best video game creatures besides Nintendo. They've made some of my favorite games like Donkey Kong. This game is going to be nothing short of amazing! It's a must play in my opinion!

Nintendo and Rare team up again for the best GCN game ever!

When I first saw this game last year I instantly fell in love. Fox uses his Arwing once in a while, but most of the time he is only armed with his wit, his new staff, and the cutie, Prince Tricky! I have no idea what this scaly prince does, but he's a very important part of the game. A new charecter named Krystal (a fox with blue fur and some primitive clothing) has a roll as Fox's friend (and maybe more than friend). Falco, Slippy, Peppy, Rob, and General Pepper return into the new sequel. I'm already impressed with the dinosaurs, including the tyranosaurus rex that chases Fox through a tunnel in one level, but I'm hoping Andross, Star Wolf, return and the mystery of the Fox's father to be solved! I'm positive it will be a million seller by 2004!

Now i like this game very much, being in dinosaur planet with all the dinosaurs and a dino sidekick, but everyone wants blood, why is that. Anyway starfox is back with better graphics and everything. Also andross it back, but i'll get to that later. First of all fox has a new mission because dinosaur planet is torn apart yada yadda yadda. You will start of as fox's girlfriend Krystal also in the new starfox game. Krystal got a message or something and she rides on a terridactel and thats where your adventure begins. You have to shoot those fire cannons and the rotor once you did that you will have to get on the ship then find a key and once you open the door ITS GENERAL SCALES and he starts talking AND I CAN'T UNDERSTAND HIM, because he's speacking some kind of dino language. Then he take krystal and throws her off the boat and her dinosaur friend catches her. Then you go to the krazoa shrine get the spirit, go the the palace and release it. Andross who is creeping around, also his view is heatvision, he startles Krystal and she goes in the blue beam and it pushes her into a stone and fox has to save her. Then thats when fox finishes what she started. general pepper talks with fox and fox goes down to dinosaur planet, you fly in the arwing which is fun and you have to get through a gold ring to get there. Then he lands but he has no weapon, why couldn't he have his blaster. Then you go up to a patch of flowers and you get Krystals staff. When you look around you see a bunch of nice friendly dinosaurs that will give you advice. Also there is a store, but the shopkeeper stole the stuff he has he is also a sharpclaw but has no legs. You will have to get maps and everything elso, but you need scarabs. But i will skip parts. Then when you get the rock candy for the warpstone have him warp you to ice mountain. thats where you will meet tricky. Tricky a cute dinosaur and also a sidekick to fox. He does everything like he was a pet, you can tell him to heel and to stay, find, he also can breath fire like a dragon. He rolls around in the dirt sleeps and you can hit him with the staff to wake him up. Mostly the missions are to find something, like the spellstones and the spirits. Then sometimes you will have to save tricky and do things for his mother. Also you will have tests like the test of strength, you will have to press the A button at light speed. Also the shooting missions, while your flying on a retart dinosaur that is a weakling and can't defend itself on dragon rock, you will have to shoot the missiles coming toward you until the slow dinosaur can make it to the gates. Also you will do the same with the boss Drakor, but on every shot HE MISSES. Also the tests will get harder and harder, like the test of fear whitch was very annoying also andross was there spying on fox when it was on the test of fear, because when it went to the heatvision view when everything is green and red and such, he was seeing fox's progress, on the test you will use the control stick and you will have to make the marker stay in the green margian AND IT IS HARDER THAN YOU THINK because when the dinosaurs jumps at him and exerything else that takes fox by surprize the marker will thrust a little to either side. Also i like that warpstone and he's irish. Now Since this reveiw is super long Buy the game today, you'll love it.

This is a game that gamers worldwide have been anticipating since E3 2001. I have seen the video clip and it looks amazing. I am sure that the lush graphics and enviroments that were seen in clips are going to be brought to life by rare and nintendo. Also in addition to the original space shooter, there is an adventure mode. What more could a person ask?

I waited 3 years for this?!

I have quite a fondness for Rare. I loved Banjo Kazooie and GoldenEye on N64 as most of the other games they produced for that platform and SNES. When Rare does things right, they can produce magic. Unfortunately, StarFox Adventures is not that game.

I loved Zelda, which this game is obviously based on, and was eager to have a similar experience from Rare. I'm fine with their stealing of ideas from other games, because usually they improve upon them. However, somehow they managed to take all the fun out of Zelda for StarFox. I usually try to pace myself playing games to prolong the enjoyment, but this time I was playing like a madman. Why? To either end the pain, or finally discover the fun part of the game that was hiding. But alas, it was never to be found, and I've already sold the game back cursing myself for not renting it instead.

Here's my specific problems with StarFox:
-Meshing StarFox with Dinasour Planet: This just didn't work. This game was not StarFox and never felt like it. It was originally developed independently as "Dinosaur Planet" but somehow Nintendo convinced Rare to work the StarFox license into it.
-The flying missions: Completely irrelevant to the story. It never made sense why suddenly I had spaceships and mines flying at me to head to some other broken area on the planet. Or what the force field thing was that I was supposed to be opening by flying through gold rings.
-The story: I honestly had no idea what I was doing most of the time nor did I care. Everything was so linear, it didn't matter. Just go where they tell you until you can't go any further than hit switches and move things around and collect until you can move to the next room, then repeat ad nauseum.
-Linear story: I never had a choice in what I wanted to do. In Zelda I could go fishing, I could go brush up on my target practice, play mini-games, hunt ghosts, search for containers, look for hearts, chase chickens. Except for the "cheats," there was hardly ever a secondary option in StarFox, which really hurts replay value.
-Cheats: What the heck are these? Why would I want to "cheat" to watch credits or get my fortune told or listen to music? There's absolutely no reason to get the cheats.
-Confusing game play: Despite being held by the hand through the entire game, there were still several times when I was completely clueless on how to proceed. Other times I was thrown into a completely different style of game play (like keeping the line within the green area) with no explicit instruction on what to do.
-Skill learning/collecting: The game requires tons of collecting and skill learning. Many of these are only used at the time you acquire them, then abandoned for the rest of the game.
-Day/Night Cycles: Sure it's cool to have a dynamic environment, but so what? It offers no gameplay value whatsoever since very little changes depending on the time period or weather.
-Jumping: Sometimes I jump when I get to a ledge. Sometimes I don't. Why? Because the designers didn't want me to jump there. Jumping was completely inconsistent in this game and it became quite annyoing. Same with climbing. Sometimes I could climb a ledge way over my head, sometimes I couldn't climb up something waist high.
-Lives: Why am I collecting extra-lives when I only died 4 times in the game? There were a bunch of times when I thought I died but instead I was just reset at the beginning of the map...

Despite the bad there were a few good things with the game:
-Graphics: They've been praised quite a bit, and I have nothing to add or subtract. They're great.
-Final battle: Despite being totally out of place from the rest of the game, it was the only challenging thing in it. I wish the "flying" levels were a little more like this with actual targets to hit.

As you can see, I wasn't too impressed with this game. I scratch my head at all the high number reviews this game got. It may be that I hold Rare to a higher standard, especially after waiting so long for this game to finally come out. I'm sad to see Rare go to the X-Box, especially since they were definitely part of my decision to buy a GameCube. However, my sadness is lessened after playing StarFox.

Well well well...

Sure, I have been looking forwored to SFA "DP", But this game has been a dissapointment to many SF fans. Yes, some people do like it, particuly people who have just heard about the title,"Star Fox". It was a nice concept to make a SF game for the Game Cube, but the plan itself was executed poorly. The battle system is great, but that and the entire game buttons and arrangements are all copies from Zelda 64. That and Dinosaurs, please, that is just plain pathetic... You have to beat the sinister, "General Scales"? A Blue colored Fox that speaks so called, "Dino language"? Dinosaurs is a concept that got old VERY fast. All that's happening with these dinosaurs is that they are craeting a J.P. atmosphere! When I was looking forward to this game, I thought you would be doing good ol classic S.F. flying combined with hand to hand combat, but the original flying concept is almost completley eliminated. That and the hand to hand combat is not the best. The variatiions of powers with that weird stick thing you get is nice, but once again, it is excecuted poorly. Another thing is this, WHY DID NINTENDO LET RARE MAKE THE GAME!?!?!?!?!? Dang, I used to respect Rare, but look what they did to S.F.! even if the changes from this game resolve, all other games of S.F. will branch off this one, so some problems might not be Fixed, such as the disapaerance of Falco (Yes, that IS a problem). So overall, this game is not good, if you enjoy the original S.F. flying games that have a COMPLETE CAST OF CHARACHTERS, stick to playing the original S.F. and S.F. 64, you won't be satisied with this one.
